Chapter 209: The Mu Princess

After three months, Mu Lan was discharged from the hospital. She has not regained her vision and she still could not remember other than a few dreams that she had.

When she was told that she was pregnant, she was dumbfounded. She asked her grandfather why her husband was not around. They told her the truth that they don’t have any idea who the father of her baby was.

The doctors told her that she can regain her vision but it might be detrimental to her baby. Mu Lan chose her baby and went with the safest way of dissolving the clot in her head using gamma knife radiation. She had completed one session and would undergo a few more until the clot would totally be dissolved.

On the first day she went back to the Mu residence, she did not have any familiarity at all. She felt that she was treading in an unknown territory. However she felt that she was familiar with Chen and Feng.

Mu Chen together with a maid guided her to her bedroom. For her convenience, Mu Heng renovated one of the two bedrooms on the ground floor beside his study.

Mu Lan took time to familiarize herself with the room so she could move around without relying too much on other people. Her grandfather however has another idea. He assigned a middle aged woman to be with her during the day and a young woman who would sleep with her on the couch at night.

That night, Mu Lan has a dream. She was running barefoot on the sand as fast as she could. Tears were blinding her and she felt so weak that her knees started to buckle and she fell down.

The man chasing her shouted profanities at her. Panic and fear coursed through her. She struggled to get up and resumed running. Her running seemed endless. She was running fast but the man who looked like a monster was faster.

When she thought that the monster was about to extend its claws on her, she bumped into something hard and fell on the sand. Her consciousness started to fade but she still uttered the words ’Please help me.’

The moon was bright and cast its silvery rays over the island. A faint shadow fall on her and she saw him bent and extended his hand to help her up. Just when she was about to grasp his hand, she woke up.

Mu Lan opened her eyes but the usual darkness greeted her.

Who was the man chasing her? And who was the man that wanted to help her up? Was it really just a dream or did it happen to her in reality?

"Miss, are you alright?" an anxious young voice spoke beside her as she helped her sit up.

"I am fine. I just had a dream, Mu Yao. Can you give me some water?" Mu Lan felt her throat was dry. She was better after drinking a glass of water.

The following morning, the middle aged maid helped her dress and accompanied her in the garden.

Mu Lan loved the scent of the garden. Flowers must have been blooming.

"Auntie Wan, can you tell me what flowers are in the garden?"

"Young Missy, they are the peach blossoms. We also have apricots," Auntie Wang replied. She helped Mu Lan sit on a reclining chair.

It was early spring and Mu Lan relish the gentle breeze that kissed her skin. She placed her palm on top of her tummy. She can already feel a small bump. She touched her head and it was no longer bald. Her hair was growing.

Suddenly, a soft melodious sound filled the air. Mu Lan turned her head and followed the direction of the sound. It was coming from the living room.

"Auntie Wan, can you help me up. I would like to go back inside and see who is playing the piano."

The middle-aged woman assisted her back inside. When the two ladies entered, the music stopped.

"Who is playing Auntie Wan?"

"It is me, Sis." It was Mu Feng. He stood up and guided Mu Lan toward the left side of the room. "Do you like to play the piano?"

"Can I?" Mu Lan looked at Mu Feng with her dull eyes. Mu Feng sighed. The woman before him used to have the brightest eyes. He hoped that she will regain her eyesight soon. It pained him to see her like this.

Mu Feng helped Mu Lan sit on the chair. He started to let her feel the different keys and what sound it would make. After an hour Mu Lan was able to play a beginner’s song.

"I will not be bored now. I can play the piano." She said with a smile on her face.

"I’ll hire a tutor for you and when I have time, I will teach you personally." Mu Feng spoke in a gentle manner. He will not be able to teach her how to read notes so she have to memorize the keys for the entire piece.

"Thank you, Big Bro." Mu Lan said sweetly.

Mu Feng felt an inexplicable warmth in his heart. It felt great to have a sister that called him big brother. He made up his mind to dote on her and take good care of her.

The family of four had breakfast together at the dining room. It was Mu Lan’s first breakfast with the family. Mu Heng’s eyes reddened as he watched Mu Lan eat her food. While she knew how to use chop sticks, it was apparent that she was not used to it.

Mu Chen passed her a spoon. "Since your vision is not yet restored, it is better to use the spoon first."

Mu Lan thanked her younger brother for his thoughtfulness.

She then lowered her eyes and started eating the food placed by her two cousins on her plate. Mu Heng sighed in his heart. When Mu Lan’s eyes were lowered and if he disregarded the color of her skin and hair, she looked somewhat similar to the woman from his memory.

She doesn’t looked like a Mu at all, except for her nose. She has a tall nose bridge and a straight nose. Her nostrils were small and the tip of her nose were small.

Even if her looks did not conform to that of the Mus, it was still a fact that his blood flowed through her veins. She was his granddaughter and she would be pampered as a Mu princess.
