Chapter 210: Seeing the Light
Mu Lan was wearing a beautiful white wedding dress with a flowing skirt. She was sitting on a swing, decorated with beautiful flowers. A tall man in a dark suit was standing behind her and staring at her while she looked back with an upturned face. He pushed the swing and she was full of laughter as she flew into the air, her flowing veil and skirt rustled and danced in the strong breeze.
The swing was coming back to where the man was. When she looked back and was about to touch his face, she woke up.
It was another dream. Who was the man? Was he the father of her child? Was the scene from their wedding? His face was always a blur.
Mu Lan opened her eyes and a blurry splash of white met her gaze. She closed her eyes and opened them again. The white ceiling still appeared blurry. She blinked a few times then she focused her eyes on the ceiling.
She could see! After five months after the accident, she could finally see. She placed her two palms on her baby bump and she felt that baby kicked her. She felt elated and she giggled. It was early in the morning and rays of the sun seeped through the curtain.
"Baby, I can see. I will now be able to see your great-grandpa and your uncles." Mu Lan excitedly stood from her bed. Auntie Wan hurriedly went to her bed to assist her.
"Auntie Wan, you don’t need to assist me. I can already see." Mu Lan was grinning while Auntie Wan covered her mouth with her hands.
"Miss, you can see!" She exclaimed. Her eyes reddened. She was truly happy for her young Miss.
Mu Lan approached the full-length mirror installed on the wall beside a door. She was wearing a white cotton night dress that was shirred under her bust and reached below her knees. She turned sideways to look at how big her bump was. She was now entering her third trimester. Three months more and she would be seeing her baby girl.
She studied her face in the mirror. Her hair was still very short. If she was not pregnant, she would pass for a man. She could clearly see her facial features since her hair was short. She has hazel upturned eyes. Her eyebrows were dark and strong, nestled perfectly on a high forehead. The shape of her face was rectangular with an angular jawline and a perfect chin angle. Her lips were full and her nose was small, cute, and appealing. She has a natural blush on her cheeks probably because of her pregnancy.
"Missy, you are the most beautiful pregnant woman I have ever seen." Auntie Wan said.
Mu Lan looked at Auntie Wan who was standing beside her through the mirror. She smiled and was surprised to see two cute dimples just a little bit away from the corner of her lips.
"Yong Missy, breakfast is ready. Your grandfather and your cousins are waiting for you at the dining table."
Mu Lan left the room excitedly. She looked around and found the house to be very big and luxurious. In the far corner of the living room was the grand piano which accompanied her during her dark days. Now that she could see, she would be able to study how to read the notes instead of just memorizing the piece.
She entered the dining room with a blooming smile. She froze on her track when three heads turned in her direction at the same time. They still did not know that she has regained her vision.
At the head of the table was an old man with gray her but even if he was old, he still exuded a powerful aura.
The two younger men were sitting opposite each other and were looking at her with a gentle and doting looks in their eyes. She wanted to take a step but her two feet were heavy. How come her family looked nothing like her at all?
Mu Heng frowned. He sensed something was wrong. Mu Lan was looking at them like she was seeing them. Then it struck him. Mu Lan was indeed seeing them.
Mu Heng stood up and approached her. "What are you standing there, Lan er? Can you already see? Come meet your family."
When Mu Lan heard the familiar warm and loving tone of her grandpa, she no longer hesitated but hugged her grandfather. "Grandpa is so good to finally see you." She said and tears streamed down from her eyes.
"Sis, your eyes are cured?" Mu Chen also stood up and approached her. Mu Lan gave him a quick hug. "If you are Chen, then that should be Elder Brother Feng." Mu Lan glanced at the tall, slender man who came from the other side of the table and gave her a quick pat on the head.
"Everyone, let us go back and eat. This is a good day." Mu Heng said cheerfully.
Mu Chen vacated his seat and offered it to Mu Lan so she can sit beside her grandfather.
The three men around her started to put the food on her plate. She was at a loss for what to do.
"Please stop putting food on my plate." Mu Lan sighed as she looked at the mountain of food on her plate. She picked up the chopsticks and started picking her food. She frowned when she noted that she was not as adept at using chopsticks as her cousins. Even if she lost her memory, her body and her hands should be able to remember the action.
"Grandpa, is Uncle still abroad?" Mu Lan asked to break the silence in the room. She only met him once two months ago.
"Yes. He will be there in the next two or three months."
Mu Lan was silent for a long time. She was hesitating whether to ask the question that troubled her since she entered the dining room or not.
Mu Heng and Mu Feng were very perceptive. They knew that there is something on Mu Lan’s mind that troubled her.
"Grandpa..." Mu Lan hesitated, then she looked up and met her grandfather’s gentle gaze. "Am I really your biological granddaughter?" She finally let it out.
