Chapter 208: Brothers!
"So Grandpa, Aryana is your granddaughter? Then, it means that she is our cousin! No wonder I feel very close to her and treated her like my elder sister." Mu Chen blabbered.
The Mu siblings did not have a sister. Their grandfather has three sons but did not have a daughter. That was what they thought. Their eldest uncle has a son and a daughter but they did not like their cousin because she was arrogant. Their youngest uncle only had one son.
Mu Feng and Mu Chen were excited. It was quite incredible to discover that Aryana Jones was their cousin.
"Fate works in mysterious ways. I still remembered how I meet Aryana on that beach. There were so many people there and yet she was the one who picked up my wallet." Mu Chen clearly recounted his first encounter with Aryana. "But it has been a week now. How come she is still in coma?" He asked worriedly.
"She has swelling on her brain. The doctor said it will go away on its own but will take sometime." Mu Feng replied. He looked at his grandfather and asked seriously. "Grandpa, aren’t we going to tell Erik Lee? Looks like they are married considering the ring on her finger. He is still looking for her."
On the day Aryana was brought by Mu Heng to the hospital, the doctor handed over to him the necklace but the ring on her finger remained. When Mu Feng took it off to check there was an inscription of the words Erik and Aryana.
"Someone wanted to harm her and she almost died. What if it is related to him? Let her enemies think that she is dead."
"But Grandpa, what about her family and her friends?"
The old Mu glared at Mu Feng and he became silent. If there was one person whom Mu Feng was afraid, it was his grandfather. He revered him but afraid of him when he was angry.
"Let us wait for her to wake up. Until then I don’t have any intention of letting her husband know. He failed to protect her despite of his riches and influence in the Central District. It made him unworthy of my granddaughter." Mu Heng said coldly.
...
The grandfather and grandsons were sitting on the couch while watching Amaya lying on the bed. Her hair was fully shaved and her head was wrapped in layers of gauze.
Aryana stirred. "I am thirsty." She said with a hoarse voice.
Mu Chen was already beside the bed while Mu Feng helped his grandfather up. He did not understand what Aryana said so it must be in her local dialect.
"Can you say that again in Chinese?" Mu Chen asked.
Aryana understood him and asked for water. Mu Chen adjusted the bed so she was in an upright position and hurriedly got a glass of water. He helped her as Aryana struggled to hold the glass and slowly drank the water.
"Where am I? Why is it dark? Are you my family?"
When Mu Heng heard her voice, he was reminded of Ning Ning. They have the same voice, that angelic voice that captured his heart. He moved closer but before he could say anything, Mu Chen beat him to it. "We are your brothers. I am Chen," he said as he held her hands.
"And I am Feng."
"I am your grandfather, Mu Heng." The old man’s voice trembled and his eyes reddened.
"Oh, I have a grandfather and brothers?" She asked tentatively. "How about my parents?" The three men froze. The ward was silent for some time. Mu Heng cleared his throat.
"Your parents died in an accident when you were still young." Mu Heng told her the truth.
"I cannot see. Am I blind? I remembered I was in a rubber boat and being pursued by a yacht but something strange happened. I was lifted into the air and then everything went black." Aryana thought that was a weird dream, but after thinking it over, it must have really happened.
"There is a blood clot in your brain affecting your vision. You will regain your vision after some time." The old man explained her condition. "What else have you remembered?"
Aryana can’t remember anything else. If not for that dream, she might not even know why she had such serious injury.
"Don’t force it so as not to put stress in your brain." Mu Heng said gently.
Mu Feng and Mu Chen looked at each other. They did not know that their grandfather was capable of such gentleness.
"Grandpa..." Aryana’s voice was still a little hoarse.
Mu Heng froze for a second before a blooming smile transformed his cold look into a gentle one. He thought, that the sound of his granddaughter calling him grandpa was the sweetest.
"Why was I on a boat and why were someone chasing me?"
The three men stiffened. How do they answer her?
"You were having a photoshoot. The yacht was hijacked. Fortunately you escaped on that rubber boat and then there was a tornado." Mu Heng explained vaguely. He didn’t exactly know what happened. He came up with a story that he thought was closest to reality.
Aryana hummed. She thought it coincided with her dream.
"Is Feng and Chen younger than me?"
"I am 24 while you are 22. Chen is still in college." Mu Feng answered her.
"So you are my elder brother and I have a younger brother." Aryana felt a certain warmth in her heart.
"We are actually first cousins. Your mother and our father are siblings. But of course we treat each other as siblings." Mu Chen told her the truth of their relationship. It was better to be honest than tell a lie which can cause misunderstandings later on.
Aryana hummed and without her knowing, she felt asleep.
Mu Feng adjusted the bed so she could lie comfortably. At that moment two doctors came inside.
"Sorry we are late Master Mu." The doctor greeted the old man politely before checking Aryana’s vital signs.
"We will do gamma knife radiosurgery to remove the blood clots on her brain. It will be the safest for her given her condition.
