Chapter 42: They’re approaching

Tryson’s lips curled into a smile as he eagerly picked up the call, pressing the phone to his ear.

"Hey, Jude," he greeted, his voice brimming with excitement.

"So... how’s the moment going?" Jude teased, his tone laced with curiosity.

Tryson lowered his head, a wave of shyness washing over him. But he quickly shook it off, inhaling deeply before responding.

"I finally told her, Jude," he said with quiet confidence. "And now... all I want is to show her—prove to her—just how much I love her. So, I’ve planned a surprise."

"Wow, that’s amazing!" Jude exclaimed. "I bet she’s over the moon right now. Especially considering everything she’s been through... and with her health finally stable, you need to make sure she stays that way."

A silence settled between them.

Tryson leaned against the wall, folding his arms as his mind swirled with thoughts. The phone remained pressed against his ear, but he barely noticed.

"This is the only way," he murmured, almost to himself. "Angel is pregnant, and the only way to keep her safe is to get her out of the house." His voice dropped, laced with an unspoken urgency.

"Especially now... with everything going on. You know what I mean."

Jude’s breath hitched. "Tryson... don’t tell me they’re coming. Not now."

Tryson didn’t answer. He wanted to. But the weight of the truth held his tongue captive.

The silence between them was deafening.

And in that moment, Jude felt the ice-cold grip of fear wrap around his chest.

"Tryson... Angel is in the house! Why didn’t you solve this problem before bringing her there? She has no idea what she’s walking into—how do you expect her to cope with this?" Jude’s voice was laced with shock and frustration.

"Trust me, Jude, I tried," Tryson said, his voice heavy with exhaustion. "My family tried. But for some reason... Angel is their next target."

Jude let out a sharp breath. "And you never told her? Tryson, your family—" he paused, gripping the phone tighter. "They’ve been so deceptive about this. What do you think will happen to her if they find out she’s still under your roof?"

"My family is only doing what they think is best," Tryson murmured, his words strained. "That’s why they had Angel taken away two months ago. But if she ever finds out the real reason for all the pain she’s going through—if she realizes it’s because of me—" He swallowed hard, his voice cracking. "I wouldn’t even know how to face her."

Jude exhaled, shaking his head. "But you can do something, Tryson. You don’t have to just sit back and watch this happen." His voice turned urgent.

"These people—you can get the authorities involved. You can make sure they stay the hell away from your house."

Tryson remained silent, his mind racing.

And for the first time, the weight of it all truly settled on his shoulders.

"You think it’s easy, Jude?" Tryson’s voice was low, edged with frustration.

"This man... he’s not just anybody. He’s a mafia conglomerate. You don’t just ’deal’ with someone like him. If we make the wrong move, he’ll come straight for Angel." His breath hitched as he ran a hand through his hair, his mind racing.

"Right now, all I care about is protecting her and the baby. She knows I love her—and if that’s enough to keep her feeling safe, then I’m glad she believes it. At least... until she finds out the truth. Until she realizes why this has all been happening."

Jude exhaled deeply, hesitating before he spoke. "What about Riley? Karina told me she’s still at the house."

The moment he mentioned her name, something shifted in Tryson’s expression.

His eyes darkened, his jaw clenched.

"She chose to stay," he said, his voice cold and unforgiving. "So she can deal with the consequences for all I care."

Jude sighed, sensing the hostility behind Tryson’s words.

"You can’t just treat her like that. You know that, right?" His voice was calm, but laced with warning.

Tryson’s fingers curled into a fist, his stomach twisting at the mere thought of Riley. The mention of her name alone made him uneasy—uneasy in a way he wasn’t ready to confront.

"As much as I want to deny it, I know Riley is capable of handling them," Tryson admitted, his voice heavy with contemplation.

"But Angel... she’s different. She’s pregnant, Jude. If she finds out the truth now, it’ll break her. And I... I don’t know if I’ll ever have the right words to explain everything she needs to hear." He said showing a bit of helplessness within his tone.

Jude sighed, understanding the weight of Tryson’s dilemma.

"You know what, bro? Whatever happens with them, Riley is the only one who knows how to handle it. And as for Angel... you’re right. This isn’t the time for her to find out. Maybe later—when things calm down, when you figure out how to tell her without shattering her world."

Tryson remained silent, his mind clouded with uncertainty.

"So," Jude continued, shifting the conversation, "how long are you planning to stay at the resort?"

"Three days should be enough," Tryson said decisively. "If Riley and those people realize I’m gone, it’ll work in my favor. It’ll give the illusion that we’ve disappeared for a while."

Jude hummed in understanding before asking, "And? Did you book rooms for both of you?"

At that moment, Tryson’s expression shifted.

His gaze darkened for a brief second, but then—unexpectedly—a chuckle escaped his lips. He lowered his head slightly, a subtle hint of shyness creeping onto his face.

Jude smirked on the other end of the line. "Oh? That reaction says a lot, man."

"I’m not about to be the one responsible for my own torment, bro," Tryson said firmly.

Jude couldn’t help but chuckle, shaking his head in amusement. "Man, the way you just said that—like you already know exactly what kind of trouble you’d be walking into."

Tryson smirked but said nothing, his silence speaking louder than words.
