Chapter 88: A look back in time

"You did tell me."

Everyone turned to see Due who stood at the entrance. She held a straight face and walked towards them.

Selena blinked her eyes, "Huh?"

Due got to where they stood, "I have something to confess your majesty," she lowered her gaze.

Oberon was still recovering from his shock, "What do you have to say," he asked completely void of any strength.

She exhaled deeply, "Selena had found that on time, she knew she was not your mate after a particular incident, that we never narrated to you," she shook her head.

"May I know what that incident is?"

Due looked at Selena, "Forgive me."

Elena hugged her before leaving Due and Selena together.

Selena looked at Due. When she was sure they were from earshot, she told Due, "They looked so happy, I do not feel right."

"What do you intend on doing? Tell them it is fake? Do you really have the heart to do that?"

She looked away, she could never do that even in a thousand years.

"I am scared Due, how will I give birth even when I know I am barren?"

"I have already told you, the time will come for that, but for now, relax."

There was a loud gasp behind the door. Due and Selena paused, "I think someone heard us," Selena gulped.

Due stood up and headed to the door. She opened it at once, "Who is that?" She came out of the room.

She looked to her right and saw a maid, she was sweating profusely, shaking like a leaf.

"What did you hear?"

She shook her head, "Nothing, I did not hear anything," she shook her head.

"Are you sure?"

She modded, "I swear I did not hear anything," she tried to lie but her body and her voice betrayed her.

Due squinted her eyes, "You are a threat," she gripped her arm and flung her inside the room.

Selena looked at them, "She heard us?"

Due nodded, "Yes, she did."

"Please, spare my life, I promise not to tell anyone," she pleaded with tears in her eyes.

Due shook her head, "Even if you do not tell anyone now, you will do so another time, and for that, I can not let you live."

The maid broke down in tears, "Please, I promise I will not say a word to anyone, just please let me live."

Selena was confused, "She says she will not tell anyone, but what if she does?"

"She is already a threat, I can not trust her."

"Let us do something that will send her out of the palace."

"No, she must die."

The maid cried and pleaded for her life but they all fell on deaf ears.

Due ordered that she should be taken to the cemetery, and killed there.

The guards Due had ordered, dragged her to the cemetery, all she could do was cry loudly but still no one heard her cries.

They got to the cemetery, she looked at Due with tears in her eyes, "This is not the end I promise you. The truth will surely surface one day! Selena will never produce a heir!"

"End her already!"

As she was still speaking, they stabbed her chest, the knife ran through her heart and she was silenced.

Due washed her hands and walked back to the palace acting as if nothing had happened.

She headed back to Selena’s room but was stopped by one of the guards, "His majesty wants everyone to be here, no one should be in the rooms."

Due raised her brows, "Why?"

The trumpets sounded announcing the arrival of Oberon and Selena.

Selena held onto Oberon’s arm as if her life depended on it, Oberon tried as much as he could to keep up with her pace, so he walked as slowly as he could.

Oberon took her to a chair and helped her sit.

He straightened himself to address the servants present there.

"Good day to you all."

"Good day your Majesty," they greeted in unison and bowed.

He motioned for them to get up, "I know this is one of the most unusual things today, I never call for a gathering like this but today I had to."

He smiled, "I bring good news," the pride was evident in his voice.

"In the next nine full moons, I shall be a father," he grinned.

There were gasps and clapping from all over the hall.

Shouts of ’congratulations’ rented the air.

Oberon savored the moment feeling so happy and proud at the same time.

Selena sighed, she tried faking her happiness but no matter how much she tried, she couldn’t do so.

Oberon walked to her, helped her stand up and raised her hand, "This is the woman who has decided to save my throne and the pack."

There were shouts of excitement, all of them screaming words of congratulatory messages.

Selena’s eyes darted until they fell on Due. Due frowned and signaled her to smile lest she became suspicious.

Selena faked a grin, lowering her gaze. Oberon felt so proud, holding her shoulder. Elena walked up close to her, wrapping her arms around her, feeling so happy.

Selena could only wave her arms around faking a smile.

The servants bowed in respect. Selena faced Due again, there was this excitement on Due’s face.

Selena got the message, she faced the crowd again, feeling pleased with herself. She might have been deceptive but she wanted this respect coming from them.

Oberon made a rule about her diet, a rule about her moving around, he appointed new maids who would look after her, guards who would follow her around and her personal cook.

He had ordered all the servants present to make sure to do anything she wanted, if anyone disobeyed, severe punishment would follow.

After the long talk, he dismissed them. He helped her back into the room.

Selena could feel this excitement inside her, her heart was racing with happiness, maybe Due’s idea wasn’t that bad.

Throughout the rest of the day, Oberon made sure he was with her. He didn’t mind stopping all of his work just to cuddle her and make her feel comfortable.

"Oberon, I think you have done enough, you should go back to work," Selena told him.

He shook his head, "I am fine, there is no need to worry so much about me, the most important person here right now is you."

Her heart warmed up, "Awe, thank you but you also have to work, you can not leave the matters of the pack hanging all because of me."

A warm smile appeared on his face, "You are such a great Luna, your love for the pack is enough," he hugged her.

Selena only shook her head, she knew whatever she said pleased him and would win his heart so she kept on doing so.

Oberon couldn’t be more happy than he had been that day. He stayed with her a little longer.

Someone came to inform him that the elders had arrived.

"I will be there soon," he nodded.

He kissed Selena’s head again, "I will see you later my dear," he smiled at her and left the room.

He went at once to the throne room, a lot of pride in his heart.

The elders were waiting for him, when he got in, they bowed.

He walked to his throne but he didn’t sit on it.

"We heard the news your Majesty, congratulations," Demetrius bowed.

He smiled, "Turns out you were right all along," he shrugged.

Demetrius nodded, "See? She is fertile, now she has conceived a heir for your throne and has saved the pack."

He nodded, "I agree, she just needed a little more time to get pregnant."

"So it seems," Zephyr nodded.

Another spoke up, "We just have to commence the preparations, we have to officially present her to the pack."

Zephyr grinned, "Yes, Dolph is right we have to tell them we have a heir for the throne."

The elder who was also Dolph smiled, "In the next twenty two full moons, we are presenting him to the pack, Lady Selena should be prepared, knowing the customs and the rites before she is presented to the pack."

The rest of them nodded in agreement, "I could not agree more," Zephyr nodded.

Oberon sat on the throne, "She shall be ready before then," he faced Dolph, "Dolph."

"Yes, your Majesty," he bowed.

"You will be in charge of preparing my wife, if she has to he presented to the pack prepared."

He nodded, "It would he my utmost pleasure your majesty."

He smiled, still feeling pleased, "Anything else?"

They all exchanged glances, Demetrius spoke on their behalf, "I do not think there is anything else, everything is in order," he laughed.

Oberon nodded, "You may leave now."

They all stood up and left the throne room. Oberon rested on his throne. Now it was time to enjoy his rule.

"We have to know the cause of this Selena, we can not continue this way, everything will go wrong," Due flared.

"I know of someone who could help us."

Due looked at her, "Who is that?"

"A seer, he knows the answers to questions like this, he could help us."

Due squinted her eyes , "Who is he? Where is he? We have to find a solution, any possible solution at all, there is no time all,"She shook her head bitterly.
