Oberon had sent messengers to assemble everyone to the palace the very next day. He didn’t speak to Selena that morning and he was gloomy.

Everyone wondered what was happening these days since the king was always assembling them at the slightest issue.

"Do you not think this is a little too much? The Alpha assembles us almost every week!" A werewoman complained to her fellow werewoman.

"What can we do? It is not as if we can question him or would you do the questioning?"

She looked away shaking her head, "

I do not want to get into any trouble," she gulped.

"So it is better you keep your mouth shut, you would not like it if someone from the royal court heard what you said."

Everyone assembled as the king had ordered, from the greatest to the least. This time, Oberon didn’t walk in gracefully like the last time he assembled them.

He dragged himself to the podium higher than the rest of them and sat down.

He cleared his throat, "Bring them forward!"

Everyone gasped as they saw Selena and Mark hand in hand walking slowly towards the podium.

"What is the Luna doing with the beta?"

"What is going between them?"

"Did they by chance have an affair?"

They heard these words as they walked to the podium but decide to ignore them all. They continued their walk till they got to where he sat.

"Good day your Majesty," they bowed.

Oberon looked at them with contempt trying so hard to control his rage from venting out on them.

"I think it would be best if you faced the people," he said calmly.

They both faced the people but refused to look at them in the eyes, their gaze was dropped instead.

Demetrius was as lost as the rest of them, "What is the matter your majesty? Why have you set your luna and beta like this?"

"They were my luna and beta, but not anymore," he shook his head.

Demetrius creased his brows, "The pack is at loss your majesty, speak to us in clear terms."

He held his head, exhaled, calmed down a bit and stood up, he now faced the people.

"I know you all must be wondering why again I have assembled you all, I do not mean to inconvenience you but you all must know what is actually on the table as at the moment."

"May we know what it is your majesty?"

"I have rejected Selena as my mate. She was caught with my beta making out and had claimed to love him more, therefore she is no longer fit to be my mate," he announced coldly.

Everyone gasped loudly, "Rejected? Caught with his beta?"

"This is serious? The luna cheated on the Alpha?!"

Oberon raised his hand signifying them to stop talking, "That is enough," he said.

Demetrius shook his head feeling so disappointed, "This is an act of treachery your majesty, they deserve a serious punishment, this is unacceptable!"

The crowd roared, breathing treacherous curses against them. Selena tightened her grip around Mark’s arm, hiding her face in his neck. He squeezed her hand comforting her in the little way he could.

Oberon looked at them with this strange emotion in his eyes, "Let them be," he said softly.

The pack gasped in surprise, "Why? Your majesty, these were people who were one of the closest to you, they did this and you want to let it go?" Demetrius asked shocked.

"Let it be Demetrius, I was the one at fault, I was not expecting this but let it be," he looked away.

"Your majesty, if you do not punish them now, others would think it is acceptable to do this kind of atrocity."

He smiled, "No one will do it Demetrius, I know how to handle the both of them, punishing them would not make a difference."

"What do you intend to do then?"

He exhaled and looked at the crowd, "Let it be known to the members of the lycanthropy pack that whoever tries, even the greatest of us all who commits such an atrocity would..."

"Be put to death?"

"Banished?"

"Ex communicated?"

"No, that is not it," he smiled strangely.

"He would be treated accordingly," he said simply.

Icarus was pissed off,"Please explain in clear terms to us your majesty, what exactly are you trying to say?"

He straightened his face, "I shall be the judge of whoever tries such an atrocity, whatever I say, then it is final."

"Then tell us what you will do to these defaulters."

"Look at me."

There was a pause, "Look at me," he repeated.

A guard tugged at them and they faced him.

"What would you say if I made you both live with silver for the rest of your lives?"

They looked at him with horror in their eyes, "Please do not do that us, I beg of you your majesty," Selena pleaded with her eyes teared up.

He drew his head backwards,"You are pleading for mercy, but you never showed me mercy," he said quietly, a little hurt obvious in his voice.

She shook her head, palming her face. He faced Mark, "How about you? Having the guts to sleep with your Alpha’s luna?"

Mark bent his head, "I am sorry your majesty," he gulped.

"And you are also sorry now," he sighed, "You never thought a day like this would arrive, did you?"

They shook their heads sadly. He drew their attention to the cursing crowd, "They want you dead, executed, punished,"he smirked.

Selena fell at his knees, "I would do whatever you ask, please it is better you send us away than allow us die at their hands," she croaked.

"You do not have to be in tears now, you should smile, this is what you wanted," he replied calmly.

She broke into tears,"Please your majesty, do not do this to us, please," she cried.

He shook his head, "I will not kill you, neither will I punish you," he said.

Mark and Selena looked at him, with shock mixed with gratitude.

"But..."

They were worried again, "You have to stay away from everyone else, and live with your guilt."

"You are banishing us?"

"No, I only said you should stay away from everyone else, and live with your guilt."

Selena could not hold her tears anymore, she bent her head and cried at his feet.

Mark sighed, they did deserve this after all he was kind enough not to put them to death.

"I would really appreciate it if it took its effect right now," he said coldly.

Mark helped Selena up, he looked at Oberon for the last time and said, "I know I have offended you, I really have. Trust me, it was not always like this, there is still more to it, I am sorry your majesty, Selena was never your mate to begin with."

Oberon’s jaws dropped.

Demetrius exchanged glances with the elders, even Elena who had been quiet all these while stood up shocked.

"What do you mean?" She asked, her eyes wide open.

He looked at her and sighed, "He was mistaken, he does not even know who his mate really is, how can he say Selena was?"

Oberon frowned, "What are you talking about?"

Mark closed his eyes and exhaled, "It is the sad truth your majesty, you might have married her but she was never your mate."

"Who then is my mate?" At this point he was confused.

"That should not be my answer to give," he replied solemnly.

Oberon was now enraged and confused, out of his anger, he grabbed Mark by the collar.

"Stop playing games with me and answer me for once!"

Mark choked, "Your Majesty, you are suffocating me,he gulped."

"Just give me an answer! How did you know all this and who is my supposed mate then!"

This drew the attention of the entire pack.

"Your majesty.. I can not.."

"Tell me!" He roared. Mark knew best but to tell him at this point because he knew how rough Oberon could be.

"Your majesty, it is... Nyx!"

Everyone gasped, "Nyx?"

Oberon slowly let go of his collar, "She is my mate?"

"Yes your majesty," he coughed.

Oberon was weakened at this point, what had gone wrong?"

"What is happening?"

"She is your mate, you never realized this."

Oberon was silent for a while, "But you once told me..."

"I had no choice than to support you your majesty, you did not want Nyx back then, how could I oppose?"

He blinked his eyes and slowly made way to his throne slumping on it.

"Nyx... is my mate?"

Selena sniffed, and hugged Mark.

"Selena did you know about this?" Elena asked her.

She nodded, "Yes, your majesty," she gulped.

Elena covered her mouth in shock, "You knew this all these while and you never told anyone?"

"Who could I have told? No one."

"You did tell me."
