Chapter 86: Mistakes of the past

Elena walked through the hallway and walked to Oberon’s study, she walked inside but didn’t find him there.

"Where has he gone to?" She frowned.

She headed back to the door but bumped into him

"Oberon," she gasped.

"Mother? What are you doing here?"

"We need to talk son."

"What do you want to talk about?"

"It is about Nyx, we have to find a way to appease her, just any way possible."

Oberon stared at her for a while, "I know that mother, trust me when I said I have been trying, she really hates me and wants to stay away from me."

"I do not blame her, all the blame should go to me, I did a very wrong thing," she palmed her face.

"Why are you blaming yourself, what did you do wrong?"

Elena raised her head and looked at him with tears in her eyes.

"Forgive me Oberon, I am the reason you never knew Nyx was pregnant."

He frowned, "What do you mean?"

She gulped, "Nyx had told me she was pregnant, but I did not tell you, because you already found your mate."

Oberon squinted her eyes, "What do you mean by that?"

"If I had told you Nyx was pregnant with your child back then, maybe you would not have allowed her leave the palace."

Oberon was short of words, for the next few seconds, he gaped at his mother.

"Is this true? Are you trying to play games with me?

"I am sorry son, it was a mistake, I never knew it would affect us this way," she sniffled.

He squinted his eyes dangerously, for that moment, he didn’t know what he would call her.

"But why?" That was all he could say after he finally found his voice.

"I was ignorant, I did not know it would result to this," her voice was choked.

Oberon felt weak, he supported himself by resting against the table, "How could you do this mother?" He gasped.

She gulped, "I thought your mate was supposed to be fertile, I did not know she would turn out to be a barren Luna."

Oberon closed his eyes and exhaled trying so hard to control what was forming inside of him; rage.

He palmed his face, surpressing his anger, he exhaled.

"So what do we do?"

Elena gulped, "I.. do not know," she shook her head feeling defeated.

Oberon sat down on the table too weak to think, "This.." he couldn’t find his words.

"I know this has hurt you, and I am very sorry," she bit her lips, tears threatening to fall down her face.

He had no idea Nyx was pregnant when he divorced her, if he did, he would have stopped her from leaving, but now this.. this was just too much to handle just at once.

"You made a very big mistake mother, where do I even begin?"

Elena held his hand, "We can still do something about this, I know we can, we will think of a way together," she squeezed it.

"What else do you have in mind? Appeasing? You know very well she would not accept it, she wants to stay away from us!"

She flinched, Oberon was now angry, very angry. He bit his lips and looked somewhere else, trying so hard to calm himself down.

She sighed, she could feel how enraged he was, "We can still fix this."

He didn’t reply, he just held his head still calming himself down.

"Every step is an attempt, we can still do something about this, we have to make her see the reason to love and be with us again."

He looked at her, how else should I do that? I have tried all I can, she still refuses," he clenched his fists.

"This is all my fault," she muttered painfully.

Oberon stood up and walked to the window, "How do I get her back?"

"You will, just keep trying, and I will do this with you, you do not have to be so tensed."

He sighed, "Oh goodness."

Selena walked into the room, "Oberon?"

He creased his brows and looked at her, "Yes?"

"There is something I want to tell you."

He arched his brows, "What is it?"

She took a deep breath, "Forgive me for what I am about to say but I just have to tell you what I feel."

"Go ahead and say it."

She exhaled deeply, "I.. can not be with you anymore," she dropped the bomb.

He arched his brows, "And what is that supposed to mean?"

She sighed, "I do not think I love you anymore, and I know you do not love me, since I could not give you a heir."

"Where exactly are you driving to?"

"I am only saying, we should get a divorce and leave each other for good."

Elena’s jaws dropped, "Why?"

She closed her eyes, "That is because I love Mark," she rushed her words.

Oberon’s brows straightened, "Mark?"

She nodded, "Yes."

Elena was too shocked to say anything, she just gaped at her.

"I can not keep pretending that we are apart even in marriage, so it would be best if you rejected me as your mate."

Oberon bit his lips, not saying anything.

She drooped her gaze, "I am sorry, but this is how I feel and I can not deny my feelings."

Oberon palmed his face, allowing her words to sink in.

Selena patiently and nervous waited for his response.

After a while, he looked up at her again, "Okay then, I will prepare the divorce papers, you can do as you wish," he said softly.

Her eyes brightened up, "Really? Oh thank you so much, I really appreciate this," her eyes teared up.

He looked away, "That is what you want, we can do everything tomorrow, in front of everyone," he kept his voice cold.

She nodded, "I agree, if that is what you want."

He looked at her and shook his head, "It is fine, do not worry about it."

She smiled happily, "Thank you your Majesty," she bowed and left the room.

Elena looked at Oberon, "Just like that?"

"Well, it was already broken, just felt the mess to lay it off my shoulders, my life is slowly becoming a nutshell."
