Chapter 66: A Lycan pup
Archi and Dora held their kegs, walking happily to the steam.
"Archi, make sure you hold your keg tightly okay? I do not want I running off and breaking your keg."
"I am old enough, I can take very good care of my keg."
"That is a very good boy," she said with pride gleaming in her eyes.
They continued their walk in silence. They passed an antelope and its young one, the mother was so affectionate to her young one, after some seconds the father joined them.
Archi felt hurt after seeing that sight, "Aunty Dora?"
"Yes Archi?"
"Where is my father? How come I have a mother but I do not have a father?"
Dora froze as she did not have a definite answer to that question of his, she tried avoiding his eyes at the same time thinking if the best answer to his question.
"Archi.. I really do not know how best to answer your question," she shook her head.
He pouted, "Do you think mother would have the answer?"
Her heart skipped a beat, "I really do not know, maybe you should ask her?"
Archi nodded his head in thought, "I really wish I could at least see how he looks like."
Dora’s heart fell, she was feeling bad because she knew the circumstances of Archi’s birth.
"Hopefully, you will see him one day," she sighed.
"I wish so too, I really want to see him... or is he dead?"
Dora gasped, "Why are such thoughts crossing your head all of a sudden?"
He shook his head, *What should I think? I have not seen him, should I not ask if he was dead or something?"
Dora shook her head, "I do not.. think he is dead."
"Then why do I not have a father? I had always wondered why it was you and mommy, but no father."
Dora sighed, "Goodness," she muttered to herself.
"I will ask her tonight, I want to know what is going on."
Dora looked at him and shook her head, what could she say?
"Just make sure to ask nicely, okay?"
Archi nodded, thinking about how he was going to ask his mother that very important question.
Dora looked ahead, ’Your father is very much alive, oh Archi, how my hands are tied and I can not tell you anything,’ she lamented inwardly.
They arrived at the stream, "Let us fill out kegs now," she led him to the bank of the stream.
"Be careful," she said softly.
He nodded, bent down to fill in his keg.
Everything seemed fine until Archi felt the current around him grow stronger. He looked at Dora to see if she was feeling the same thing but it wasn’t like that with her.
He shook his head and continued, but the current grew stronger and stronger.
He creased his brows, "Aunty Dora, I do not like the way the current of the water grows."
She looked up at him, "It is? What do you mean?"
"I can feel a very strong current from over here."
She shook her head, "I do not feel anything like that. I think you should get out of there, go sit and wait for me."
He sighed and nodded, "Okay," he said reluctantly and moved out of the stream bank but then something held his leg back.
"Huh?" He looked back but saw nothing.
"My leg is stuck!" He cried out.
Dora gasped and moved to him quickly, "Are you okay?" She rushed to him. She attempted pulling him out but it seemed his leg was deeply rooted in the ground.
"Oh my goodness, what is happening?"
She tried pulling him out again but failed, she was beginning to get scared, Nyx would never forgive her if something happened to Archi.
Archi was beginning to sink on the stream bank!
"Aunty Dora help!"
She held onto him tightly, "Why are you sinking?!"
He shook his head, "I have no idea," he cried.
She held onto him tighter, and attempted pulling him out, "Archi, stop sinking!" She cried out desperately.
"I do not know why I am sinking!"
She was terrified, "I will get you out of here okay?"
"How does it feel? Can you pinpoint what exactly is making you sink?"
"It feels soft at the same time scaly."
"It has hands?"
"Yes, I think so."
Dora’s mouth fell, "It is a kraken!"
He shook his head, "A what now?"
At that moment, the kraken came out, Archi still within his grip.
It was a very huge sea creature, his head bigger than that rest of its body, his legs and arms like those of an octopus.
Dora panicked, "What do you want? Leave him alone!"
The kraken laughed lowly, "So this is the Lycan pup I see," its voice resounding like that of many winds.
"What has he done to you? Let him go!"
The kraken took a closer look at Archi, "Let him go? How is that possible?"
"Please, he has not done anything to you in the past, just leave him alone," she pleaded.
It shook its head, "It is a Lycan pup, there is no way I can just let it live."
Archi was scared and confused, "I am not a Lycan pup, please let me go, and be with my mother," he cried.
Dora paused for a while, Archi was a Lycan pup?
"A Lycan pup? How come?"
"Are you not supposed to know that? Well it seems you do not, if you will excuse me I have a Lycan pup to get rid of."
Dora was terrified, "What? No!"
It slowly retracted into the water, Archi still within its grip. Dora tried to shapeshift but she failed, the kraken threw her away with a forceful push.
She landed on the ground groaning in pain, her vision blurred, "Archi?" She said, her voice breaking.
She stood up quickly, "Archi?" She struggled to find her way to the bank of the steam because her vision was blurred and she had become weak as a result of that push.
She couldn’t hear the kraken nor Archi, her vision cleared a little, "Archi? Where are you?"
"Archi!"
