Chapter 36: Archi has arrived

"Your water broke already?" Dora gasped.

Nyx was in a daze, her eyes spun and it seemed everywhere was going blank.

She shook her head, "No, no, I do not think so," she said calmly.

"Then why do you feel so much pain?"

A hot liquid streamed down her legs, Nyx felt it, Dora saw it.

Dora was paralyzed with shock and so was Nyx. They were not prepared for the arrival of the baby at all.

Nyx began to panic.

"Breathe in Nyx, do not panic yet. We have to deliver the baby whatever it takes.

"Go get warm water, and a towel," Nyx said weakly.

Dora nodded and hurried to get them. Nyx groaned and sat on the uncomfortable chair. Her eyes stung with tears, because it was very painful.

"Ahhh!" She screamed.

Dora rushed back to meet Nyx, "Take it easy Nyx," she tried comforting her but she was more terrified.

Nyx took a deep breath, trying to stifle her groans.

"Dora, it hurts!" She whined.

"I know but you just have to uh... Just try to bring out the baby, you can do that right?"

Nyx knew nothing about babies and wasnt conversant with labor pains.

She shook her head. Dora held her hand, "You can do this Nyx, just try pushing the baby out."

Nyx was sweating profusely, she heaved heavily and then tried pushing. She screamed again.

"I do not want to do this!" She cried.

"You just have to, you can not keep the baby in there, just push Nyx, push!"

Nyx groaned and cried, she pushed again, and a loud cry escaped her lips, "Argh! My legs!"

"Sorry Nyx, but just keep trying, just do it, I do not even know to deliver babies."

Nyx nodded, "I have to do this."

"Just stay strong Nyx, you can do this, come on now, push!"

She pushed again, "You are almost there, I think the baby’s head is coming out!"

Nyx cried, a cry of pain and at the same time joy. She mustered all of her strength and pushed again.

Dora was filled with tears, "You can do this," she whispered.

She was panting heavily, her body was bathed with sweat, her loud cries filling the room.

"It’s almost out! Keep pushing, come on Nyx," she gently squeezed her hand in a bid to comfort her.

Nyx tried her best and pushed again, "Almost, it’s almost out."

Nyx gulped, took in a deep breath, gathered all her strength and then pushed for the last time.

The baby’s gentle cries filled the room. Dora covered her mouth, "Nyx, you did it!" She said happily, "You have birthed a male."

Nyx could only smile faintly, "My baby," she said faintly.

Then there was another issue, Nyx was bleeding and then another thing, Dora couldn’t clean the baby.

"Oh my, Nyx is bleeding, what do I do now?" She began to panic.

"Warm water, go get warm water," Nyx said faintly.

Dora nodded and ran to the kitchen, she returned back with a pot filled with warm water,"What else do I do?"

"Do we have a tub?"

Dora shook her head, "No, but we do have a bucket, why?"

Nyx was disheartened, "I could not even prepare for my own baby," her voice was choked.

Dora held her hand, "Do we not have any other alternative?"

Nyx nodded, "I could just clean myself with the water and towel, but first, the steam," she gulped, "Allow the steam to enter my private area," she said.

Dora didn’t know what to say anymore, she silently cursed the man who had made Nyx pregant and left her alone, over and over again.

Her eyes were spinning, the baby was crying, Dora was confused. She didn’t know how to divided herself.

"First things first, I have to do everything," she said to herself.

She made the steam enter the private part of Nyx, she took the baby in her arms, "How do we clean babies?" She asked confused.

Nyx equally had no idea, she just stared into space, her head spinning.

"I do not think, the baby needs cold water at the moment, maybe he needs warm water too."

Dora was still puzzled, "Then? I clean him with a towel too?"

"I think so."

She sighed, she couldn’t still believe they were in a dilemma.

She took another towel and cleaned the baby up gently.

"Everything will be fine, hopefully one day."

She looked for some old shawl that was in the house and wrapped the baby with it. She gently dropped the baby and then cleaned Nyx up.

After cleaning Nyx up, she handed the baby to her, "Here is your baby, Nyx, your first son."

Nyx took the baby in her arms, she smiled weakly, tears welling up in her eyes.

"My child," she said weakly, she caressed his head gently, "My Archi," she kissed his forehead.

Dora eyes teared up at the sight, she wiped her eyes to stop the tears from rolling down her cheeks.

She cuddled him for a while, unable to say anything else. She made sure she planted several kisses on his forehead.

She handed the baby back to Dora.

Nyx felt so weak, she could barely even speak, "You will be fine Nyx, do not worry."

She helped Nyx to the bed and made her lay down, "Have some rest Nyx, rest well."

Nyx couldn’t respond, she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

She went back to the baby, she took the baby in her arms, she didn’t know what to do with him.

He was quiet for the time being but she wasn’t sure how long he would be quiet. She sighed, Nyx was already asleep and she couldn’t feed the child.

"Archi, I think you have to wait for your mother, she is asleep and I can not feed you," she pouted sadly.

She cuddled the baby for a while. The baby began to cry after a while. Dora was disturbed, she tried everything she could to pacify him but none of them seemed to be working.

Nyx was asleep and the baby was already hungry!
