Chapter 225: Let him go

"Zane has been murdered! Zane has been murdered! Attention! Attention!" A cry rang through the walls of the guard’s quarters in the early hours of the morning.

Guards began to troop the front of the quarters, where Zane’s ripped apart body lay. His head was not with his body, his eyes had been ripped out of their sockets, his hands, and legs were all chopped in pieces.

All the guards stood there in awe, "Who have done this to him?"

"He did have problems with a lot of people, one of them must have taken revenge for what he did to them."

All the guards kept throwing comments, shaking their heads at the disgusting sight.

The elders who were in the palace, Zephyr and Roshan, were immediately alerted on what was going on. They rushed immediately to the guard’s quarters.

They were both horrified by the sight.

"Who could have done this? First, the prince, now him?" Roshan crossed his arms across his chest.

"Zephyr just stared at the body, dread in his eyes, "This is bad, terrible," he muttered.

"Who was the person he last had an argument with?"

All of them were clueless, as Zane was literally not nice to any of them at all, then a voice spoke up.

"I think you should be asking this to the new guard, Logan, Zane, and Lincoln the head guard did hate him a lot, and they were always having some problems."

"Go get this Logan, now."

Archi was sent for almost immediately. When he came out, he was looking quite unbothered.

"You?" Roshan arched his brows, "You seem quite suspicious."

"What have you done?"

Archi creased his brows, "What have I done?"

Zephyr pointed to the body, "Look at this, he is dead, you always had a fight with him right?"

"He always had a fight with me. He was not nice to anyone of us."

"So you killed him?" Roshan squinted his eyes.

Archi drew his head backwards, "Killed him? Why would I do that? I was in my room all night."

"Yes, he was," Alderon agreed, "We were with him."

Archi raised his hands, "See?"

Roshan, and Zephyr exchanged glances. This Logan was looking unbothered, neither was he fidgeting, or even trying to avoid their eyes. He looked like he was telling the truth.

Roshan pulled Zephyr away, so the guards’ couldn’t hear what they were saying, "What do you think? He is saying the truth?"

"I do not think so, but at the same time, he might be telling the truth. The fact they were always fighting does not mean he was the one who killed him," zephyr propped his chin with his hand.

"We should have the King look more in his case. We can not just conclude right away."

Zephyr faced them, "Come on, seize him."

The guards immediately closed in on him, but Archi didn’t try to resist.

"The King will be the best one to judge your Case," Roshan cleared his throat, "Come on, take him away!"

The guards who had already taken hold of him, took him to the palace building.

Zephyr, and Roshan led them to the throne room.

"Your majesty," they all bowed, except Archi.

Oberon looked at them, Logan again was present. What had he done again?

"Your majesty, he is being suspected of killing the deputy head guard, Zane. His battered body was found in front of the guards’ quarters this morning."

Oberon rested his hand on the throne’s armrest, his hand propping his face.

"I see," his eyes moved over to meet Archi’s, "What happened?"

"I did nothing," he replied, his voice as cold as ice.

"Your majesty, he was always having fights with Zane, and just yesterday, you had stripped them of anything that had to do with the palace, I think they had an argument after that," one of the guard’s present chipped in.

"Where were you when they found his body?" Oberon rested fully on his throne.

"I was in my room all night. You can ask my roommates, I never even left there at all," he shrugged his shoulders.

Oberon grunted, "Hmm," narrowing his eyes.

He felt so suspicious of Logan, yet there was nothing with which to pin him as to killing Zane.

"What should we do to him?" Zephyr probed.

’There is every possibility he killed Zane, but then we can not be so sure, he claims not to have left his room the whole night.’

"He was the one who had injured the head guard, so he might also be the one who could have killed Zane," Roshan chipped in.

Archi clenched his jaw, if care was not taken, "He would probably start finishing off the elders one by one.

Oberon clasped his hands together. He didn’t just want to rush this, he would rather not make a mistake.

"Where did you last see him?" He pointed to one of the guards.

"Inside the building, I think he was heading to his room."

He pointed to another guard, "And where did you last see him?"

"He was with his roommates. They were all heading out to eat supper."

"Did you see him with Zane this evening?"

"No."

Archi sighed, "I still do not know why I am the one who is being suspected here. Maybe because I am not from this pack, that is why you all hate me so much."

"Nonsense, we are only saying what we think," Roshan scolded him.

Oberon stared at him. He did like this Logan of a guy, why was everything against him?

He exhaled deeply, "Leave him alone," they immediately let go of him.

"If none of you last saw him with Zane, or even around him, why do you think he killed Zane?"

"Well, your highness, everything is pointing to him," Zephyr groaned.

"Everything? What exactly?" His eyes left Archi to look at Zephyr.

Zephyr went mute.

He got to his feet, "Listen, before you bring any kind of case here, it should have enough facts before I even do anything. I can not waste all my time trying to dig out facts, there are other things to do."

"We understand your majesty," they said in unison.

"Now leave, and let him go."
