Chapter 214: Back to the trenches
Slow torture is better than death .
Those words rang in Nyx’s head. Was Athena right about this?
"I really do want my revenge though, even though it has been twenty years long.. I still want my wrong to be corrected," she said to herself, exhaling loudly.
"We are ready to leave now Mother," she felt Archi tap her shoulder lightly causing her to flinch.
"Oh, Archi," she breathed hard.
"Are you ready? We have to reach there before nightfall. I can not think of leaving you behind another time."
Nyx nodded weakly, "Yes," she managed to say.
"Okay, let us begin our journey," he held her hand, "We can always stop when you are tired," he ruffled her head.
She chuckled softly, "You do not want to imagine how my body is reacting to this," she bit her bottom lip, "I feel so determined yet..."
"Nervous? Do not worry, he will not get to you," he added firmly, "I will make sure he does not hurt you this time around, do not worry mother," he pecked her forehead.
"I love you son," she snaked her hands around his waist.
"I love you more," he retuned the hug.
After a few minutes, they disengaged, "Shall we?"
She nodded, "As much I am not ready for this, yes."
He began to walk while still holding her hand, tugging her along, "We have quite a journey ahead of us, we can not just stand her all day doing nothing."
"Goodbye Archi, goodbye mother," they heard Thane behind them.
Archi tilted his head, "Good-bye buddy," he hugged him lightly, "I will miss you."
"Me too," he responded, "Do well to reach out as much as you can."
"That is not a promise, but I will try my best," he coughed slightly, "Bye."
Thane nodded, stepping backwards.
"Good luck, I hope you finish it off this time," he shrugged.
Archi looked forward, "I will make sure to," he remarked, trying to reassure himself once more.
He looked up to see Nyx still watching them wordlessly. He cleared his throat, "Let us go then."
"Goodbye mother."
Nyx waved back at him, "Good bye Thane, take very good care of your mother okay?"
He nodded, and they both began their journey to the Palace.
"We should probably go get some of my clothes first."
"Oh, I almost forgot, hehe."
...
It was dusk by the time they had arrived at the Palace gates. Nyx felt a sense of déjà vu wash over her reaching these gates.
She shook her head, "Where it all started."
"Mmh-mmh," Archi pushed the gates open, "Aha."
She followed closely behind him, surprisingly there were no guards around.
"Strange," she remarked, "Oberon would literally kill them if he found out they are not in their posts, tsk."
Archi gave her a strange look, "He would not even know."
Nyx shrugged, "Things might have changed, I do not know."
"Come on, let us go introduce you to the King," he added the last part sarcastically, a sly smirk appearing at the corner of his lips.
"Oh sure, you are right," she chuckled, "A little re union would not be bad."
"Mother," he whimpered, "You are getting old too much. It is not a reunion, your scent is masked, and.." he adjusted her scarf over her face, "Cover your face properly, he should not recognize your face, or your scent."
She nodded, adjusting her scarf around her face so it covered everywhere but her eyes.
"Perfect!" He winked.
They had already gotten to the main entrance by this time.
Archi also opened the doors, they weren’t locked, neither were there any guards around, not even a single wolf.
"We should head to the throne room quickly, there is no time to waste," he hurried into the living room while she followed him behind.
They arrived at the throne room in no time.
"We are here, you have to act unnaturally, do not give him a hint that it is you."
"Noted."
Archi exhaled deeply, pushing the door open.
The door, open, had caused a kind of distraction. A sea of eyes turned in their direction to look at them.
Archi mouthed an ’oh’. So this is where all the guards were.
Archi held Nyx’s hand, leading her to the center of the room, pushing through the guards who were in the way, ignoring their piercing gazes.
What really caught their attention was the she wolf beside Archi. Her scent was already cutting through the air, leaving their wolves to hunger for more of her.
Oberon’s grey eyes darkened, "What gives you the audacity to appear out of nowhere, and just interrupt a meeting like that? Again?"
Archi didn’t flinch, he only bowed slightly, playing along, "Forgive me your highness, I only came to introduce her to you."
He looked puzzled as his gaze shifted from Archi, and landed on Nyx.
The lines on his forehead began to slowly disappear. Her sharp scent wafted through his nose, "Oh?’ he shuddered.
She bowed, then raised her head to look at him.
He almost felt those pair of eyes stab him as those eyes could have literally killed him if they wanted to. They were haunting, beautiful, cold, and.. familiar.
"Excuse us, I will get back to you," he cleared his throat, "Now leave."
Archi scrunched up his nose in annoyance, "Leave?"
"Go!’
He nodded, taking Nyx’s hand, pulling her along with him.
"Your majesty, he is the reason we were gathered here in the first place!" A voice yelled from among the guards.
"Him?"
Archi stopped in his tracks, ready to pounce on whoever was making this difficult for him.
"Curse you," he muttered under his breath.
"Look at me," he heard Oberon’s icy voice behind him.
Archi groaned silently, spinning around.
"What is this I hear of you? You just dare to walk out on your post without any proper permission?"
"I had no choice," came the reply, "I had to leave."
Oberon felt slapped on the face. This boy was just too arrogant for no reason, "Is that so?"
Archi secretly rolled his eyes, "Yes, I had to leave."
Oberon stepped down walking towards him, "You are too spiteful for a young omega, that is pitiful," he drew out his sword , swinging it at him.
Slash! It cut through Nyx’s arm.
"Mother!"
