Chapter 211: A determined heart
Thane and Archi had walked all the way down to the end of the path, till it led them back to the crossroads, "What? How come?" Archi stamped his right foot on the ground, "It led us right here, "What is going on?"
Thane stood akimbo, scanning the area without saying a word. He was sure he was not mistaking her scent this time around, what must have possibly gone wrong?
"It is still so early in the morning, I doubt rogues would start their patrol," Archi gritted his teeth, his brows knitted together in thought, "Or.."
"She must be somewhere around here, there is no buts nor ors... we just have to look closely, I know I am not mistaking her scent," Thane squinted his eyes, his gaze falling on the ground once more, "The wind here must have erased her footprints, pathetic."
"It always does, this place is just a cursed windy place," Archi sighed, resting on Thane’s shoulder.
Archi!
Archi froze in his tracks, "Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
Archi! My son!
His heart skipped several beats, and he turned around to see if she was actually the one calling him, but he saw no one.
"Mother?" He whispered, his heart shattering into pieces.
"What? Have you seen her?" Thane jerked, spinning around to see if she was behind them. Archi nearly lost his balance, and he staggered to find his stance, "Do not be so silly now, she is not behind us?" He slapped his forehead, "I wish she was.." he quietly said those words.
"Do not give up just yet, she must be somewhere around us, just.. we have to keep looking. If she did not find us, there is every probability she must have gone home," He swatted at a fly that was resting on his arm.
"I do not think so, Thane. My mother would not rest until she finds the both of us, sadly enough, I can not even send her a message wherever she is."
Thane’s eyes lit up, "That is it! A message! We can do that!"
Archi rolled his eyes, "Right," he intoned sarcastically, and continued walking.
"You can try that.. trust me," he ran after him, "We could lit up a fire.."
"This place is too windy, the fire would be out even before we do want we want to do," he groaned, "A message will not work Thane," he stooped down to hold his knees, pushing his back outwards, his hair blowing all over his face.
Thane squinted his eyes to avoid the sand flying about, "Ugh, curse this place," he clenched his fists, palming his face.
Archi just stayed in that position, not knowing what to say or do. He just wasn’t ready to deal with the loss of a loved one, he had to find her, he just had to.
Would a message really work? Was Thane right for saying we should set up a fire? If we did, she would definitely see it if she was close by, and it seems she is close by.
"We have to leave this place, we will not find her if we keep standing here doing nothing," Thane walked up to him, and tapped his shoulder.
Archi looked up at him, and nodded, "You are right, and.. I think we should set.. that fire. I am already getting desperate," he looked away, his face was bright red.
Thane smiled softly at him, "Do not worry, I am one hundred percent sure she is close."
"I hope so," he stood upright, "Thank you."
"That is fine," he patted his back, "Let us move to somewhere.. less windy, he grinned, walking ahead of him.
"Aha.." he also picked up his pace, "I just can not wait to have her in my arms again.."
Those words sparked a fire in Thane’s heart.. he also had a mother at home, and he was sure she was worried sick, "Oh goodness," he exhaled, "Well, let us keep pushing, shall we?" He whispered to himself.
They kept on walking for what seemed like an eternity until they got to a less windy area. There were tall trees all around casting a dark canopy over them.
"Your mother must really like trees, how come she decided to move to this part of a pack?" Thane smirked.
"She did not move here on her accord.. she said a strange wolf had led her here, the same wolf that told us to leave the palace," he sucked his teeth, sitting on his knees.
Nyx’s scent wafted even stronger across their noses.
"She must be close,"Archi grinned, "Do you think I should call for her?" He scratched his neck.
Thane shrugged, "Do what you think is best."
"We should probably set up the fire," he nodded nervously.
Thane looked to his right, fortunately for him, some dead branches were lying around, so he went to pick them up.
"Seems we have to kindle it ourselves," Archi held his head tiredly.
"Do we have a choice?" Thane walked back to him, casting the branches before him.
"Here we go," he laughed.
Archi sat down, drawing the branches closer to him. He set a branch stop another, rolling a thin piece of wood between his hands, "Go see if you can get dry leaves."
"Okay!" He ran to search for dry leaves.
Archi used all his might to create a friction so it could ignite a spark, "Come on... Spark.. spark.." he prayed silently.
Thane came back with a bunch of dry leaves, setting them all over the branches.
"Here, almost done?"
Archi nodded, still trying to create a friction between the dry branches. Finally, a spark appeared.
"Yes!"
He continued igniting the sparks till it a small fire appeared. Thane immediately fed it dry leaves, also adding more dry branches.
"Finally, phew!" He wiped his head.
Together, they gently blew on the fire, causing it to grow more into flames.
"Come on, blow harder," Thane urged him.
"I am trying,’" he coughed.
They continued blowing it, still feeding it more dry leaves, and branches.
The fire gradually grew into a flame.
"We have to search for more branches! Come on! Let us go look for more!" Thane made him stand up, and togeth
er they ran into the woods.
