Chapter 207: A best friend’s save
Thane gawked at the bloody sight in front of him, unable to speak, or move, he just stared.
"Hmm, come on wrap his body up, we will need it," their leader ordered them, ignoring his presence.
"What did you do?" He gasped, his eyes was stinging badly at the sight.
"That is none of your business, and it does not concern you," he rolled his eyes.
Thane was weakened, he had not even spent a few nights with Carmilla, and he had already been murdered.
"You missed the drama," one of the rogues chuckled.
Thane was more than angry, he was enraged, bitter, and helpless at that point. Did this mean Archi was better than him at everything? He hadn’t found his best friend’s mother yet, and now he couldn’t save his friend from his very kind.
They took Thane’s body, and slung it over their shoulder, "Bye, see you around," he grinned, and attempted to walk past him.
Thane drew him backwards, and with a force he couldn’t explain, he pushed him causing him to crash into the wall.
The others looked on with disbelief written all over their faces.
He groaned, "Are you going to stand there, and watch him attack me? Get him?!" He yelled at them.
They all rushed at him, pinning him to the ground. He struggled hard to break free from their grip, but he was outnumbered, and they all kept him pinned to the ground.
One of them gripped his throat choking him, "We will show you what it is to attack our leader like that," he growled at him.
Thane’s face was turning blue, his veins popping out, his tongue stuck out as he struggled to gasp for air, "You will die, a slower, and more horrible death."
His eyes began to flicker. Maybe he was a failure. Maybe he shouldn’t have made that promise to Archi, see where it had landed him.
’I am sorry Archi, I did not mean for it to end this way,’ a tear slid down from the corner of his eyes.
"Ahhhh!" A rogue fell, screaming. There was blood seeping from the corner of his head. Then another one, fell back, his wrists had been slit, and then another, and another, till all of them had sustained serious injuries.
Thane watched in disbelief, his eyes widening open. He titled his head to look at what was causing the commotion. He could swear at that moment, he was drawn to tears. Archi had come for him!
Archi breathing fiercely, his nostrils flaring, swung his sword at them.
"Do not even think of coming close to him!" He warned.
His eyes met with the leader of the rogues, "So it was you? Where is my mother?!" He barked.
"Ar- Archi.." Thane managed to call.
Archi looked down at him, and stooped to help him, "Thane.. what happened? Why are you here?" He asked with concern in his eyes.
Thane just rested his head on Archi’s shoulder, "It is a very long story," his voice was choked, "I am sorry, I.. was outnumbered.. I could.. I could not.." he broke sobbing in Archi’s arms.
His face went bright red, he flung his sword at him, "Tell me Fenris! Where is she?" He roared.
Fenris was trembling like a leaf, "I.. do not know.. I have nothing to do with your mother I swear!" He fell on his knees.
"Now how do I know you are not lying?" He got to his knees walking towards Fenris. Fenris’s men, cleared the way, not wanting to be touched by Archi again.
He drew his sword out of the wall where it had stuck before, "You are lying, are you not?"
Fenris shook his head repeatedly, "I swear.. it.. was.. it was not me," he kept stuttering, "You can ask him!" He pointed at Thane.
"Go on! Tell him! Tell him it was not me!" He pleaded.
Thane just stared at him, saying nothing.
Archi was running out of patience, "If you do not tell me where she is, I swear you will not like your own death!" He slit his face.
Fenrir held his face yelping, "Tell me where she is!"
"I swear sir, I do not know where she is," he sobbed, "We were not after her, we just wanted the vampire!" He cried.
"Vampire?" His brows knitted into a frown.
He pointed to the pale body of Carmilla on the ground. Archi arched his brows, "Huh?"
"We do not know where your mother is sir, trust us!" One of Fenris’s men groaned.
Archi eyed him, and he quickly shut up.
"If you are not with her, who is she with?" He squinted his eyes.
Fenrir hesitated, looking away trying so hard to avoid his icy gaze.
He quickly noticed this, "Tell me," he held the sword close to his throat.
"I do not.."
He pressed the tip of the sword’s blade against the nape of his neck.
"It was Draven! She is with Draven!" He screamed.
Thane blinked his eyes.
Archi’s hold on his sword faltered, "Draven?" He repeated, his voice barely a whisper.
"Yes, she is with Draven. He has plans of making her his mate, I.. advised him against it, he would not listen," he clasped his hands together in tears, "Please spare me, I swear I tried advising him against it."
Archi could feel his rage coming out of his ears. His face went redder than a tomato, and he clenched his jaw. He remembered what his mother had told him about his first mate. He didn’t want her to go through that again.
He growled. With one blow of the sword, Fenris’s head was now rolling on the ground.
He clenched his fists, "Not under my watch!" He growled.
Fenris’s men were still shaken over Fenris who was now dead . Archi turned on his heels, helped Thane to get to his feet.
"Let us get out of here," he gritted his teeth.
Thane just nodded, mum.
"You killed him," Thane whispered, when they were far from the cave.
Archi’s jaws ticked, "Draven can not make her his mate! Not after what my father did to her!" He snapped, then he immediately regretted it.
"I am sorry," he apologized.
Thane nodded, "It is fine actually, thank you for saving me," he tried to push the lump down in his throat.
Archi turned to face him, "What happened? How did you get tangled with them?"
His eyes watered, and he looked away, "It.. is a long story."
"What? Tell me."
Thane then narrated everything from when the rogues’ attacked them after he had left till Carmilla’s death.
Archi palmed his face, "I still have not been able to trace her scent," he croaked, and sat on the ground.
"It is all my fault," he sniffed, "I.. do not know how I went wrong," he gulped.
"You know it is not your fault, you were just outnumbered," Archi sighed.
Thane sat beside him on the ground, "How did you know that rogue? You never told me you were in touch with rogues now?"
He shrugged, "They just happen to be sacred of me, and I happen to scare them away," he exhaled.
"That does not add up still, what exactly is going on? Even the so called Draven says all rogues are scared of you. How?"
Archi gave him a long, piercing gaze, before finally speaking up, "I do not know," he got to his feet.
"You have a lot of questions to answer young man!" He also stood up.
"That will be after we find my mother," he gulped, "We still have to trace her with her scent which I have not been able to still do," he groaned in frustration.
"We will find her, I trust that is a gradual process?" Thane stretched out his hand.
"I think so," he tightened his lips, taking his hand.
"We have to go then," he started to walk.
"I am sorry Thane," Archi apologized again.
"What is it?" He titled his head to look at him.
"Maybe I should not have left her with you, I did expect something like this to happen," he twisted his lips, "This.. was my fault."
Thane smiled softly, "It was not.. I understand you can not take her with you back to the palace."
Archi’s eyes widened, "Wait.. what if I do take her back with me?" A smirk appeared at the corner of his lips, "That would torture him even more!"
"I do not think that is a good idea," Thane shook his head in disapproval.
"It is.. think about it," he punched his fists, "This could never be sweeter."
"You do know we have to look for your mother first off right?"
"Oh yes, let us go," they began thier journey.
"This should not take long, even though I know where Draven lives.. I do not know, I have a bad feeling already."
Thane hit him slightly, "Stop having bad feelings, and let us go look for her!" He rolled his eyes.
