Chapter 200: Crossroads 3
Thane stared at the Groll which was laying on the ground, motionless. He didn’t know if it was dead yet, but there was enough time to get Carmilla away from it.
Thane faced Carmilla on the ground, and helped him get to his feet.
Carmilla gaped at him still trying to recover from the shock. "Why.. did you save me?" He asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
He shrugged, "I just did it. You better get out of here before it comes for you again," he turned on his heels, and began to walk away.
Carmilla felt different, was he touched by Thane’s act of kindness? He clasped his hands together, taking an unsteady step forward.
"Wait.."
He stopped in his tracks, "Why?"
Carmilla caught up with him, and gently placed a hand on his shoulder, "Thank you," he mumbled.
Thane rolled his eyes, scoffing, "You could keep it to yourself if you do not want to say it," he said grudgingly.
He removed his hand from his shoulder, fidgeting a little, "No, I mean, thank you," he voiced the last part a little louder than the first time.
"You are welcome," Thane sighed, shaking his head.
"I truly appreciate the fact that.."
"Whatever, it has already been done, your words do not matter anymore," he groaned, walking away.
"Where are you going pretty wolf?"
"It is Thane, not pretty wolf," he gritted his teeth, scrunching up his nose in annoyance.
"You are pretty," he felt Carmilla by his side, and he grunted, "What do you want now?"
"Where are you going?"
"Why are you so interested in where I am going all of a sudden?"
"I could help you, since you helped me," he flashed a proud grin.
"Whatever, go away. I do not need your help thank you," he scowled.
"I am very sure you will need it soon," he shrugged.
"I just told you, do not bother. Just go back to your pack or whatever you call it, and go find a mate or something."
"Mine is dead," he blurted out.
Thane felt a chill in his bones, "Huh?"
"You heard me, mine is dead."
"What do you mean? What happened?" His unconcerned voice suddenly had concern laced in it.
"A story I will not like to remember," he kept a cool face.
He shook his head, patting his shoulder, "It’s okay buddy..." Then he realized what he was doing.
"Hey! Are you trying to brainwash me or something?" He quickly retracted his hand, with a sour expression on his face.
Carmilla chuckled cooly, "You only have a kind heart, nothing more."
His words struck Thane like a blow, and he balled his fists, "I.."
"That is something you can not deny."
He threw his hands in the air, "Oh please, whatever, enough of all this, I have someone to save already."
"Oh, that is interesting, we could do it together," he wrapped his hands around his shoulder.
Thane stiffened as he felt his hands wrap around his shockers. A shiver ran down his spine, his heart racing fast.. what the..? He jerked off his hand, "What are you doing?" He lashed at Carmilla, his eyes widening in surprise.
"What? I did not do anything," he arched his brows.
"Do not touch me again," he said huskily, "It.. affects me," he hesitated.
Carmilla stated back at him with an expressionless look. After a while, a smile slowly made its way to his lips, "Huh? Are you into males?"
Thane coughed, "Stop! You are filling my head with your nonsense talk!" He blurted, and stormed off fuming.
"Am I perhaps saying the truth?"
"No, you are not!" He grunted.
"Okay.. okay.. fine," he felt his presence behind him again.
"What.. how are you even doing that? Stop this! Now we have settled our differences, we should go our separate ways, it was nice having you vampire."
"I am not leaving till I repay your kindness."
"I do not want it repaid," he spun around, bumping into Carmilla.
He froze, their faces a few inches apart. Carmilla’s fiery- which was actually red burned deep.. into his.. soul? No.. his wolf, he didn’t even have a soul.
Oh great! A vampire is now infiltrating my thoughts! Just great!
Thane gave up, and calmed down, "What exactly do you want?"
Carmilla noticed he was uncomfortable, and drew back, "I wanted you at first.. your blood, but then you turned out to be a very kind wolf, so I just want to repay your kindness, probably, help you with whatever you want to do."
Thane crossed his hands across his chest, "So nice of you," he rolled his eyes.
"Can I help?"
He twisted his lips in thought, he could actually make use of Carmilla’s powers. He was a vampire, he had magic, he was kind of fast, he was useful.
Thane nodded in satisfaction, and outstretched his hand, "Deal," he shook hands with Carmilla.
"Oh good thing," Carmilla squeezed his hand.
"Ow! Oh you damn.."
"Do not do that pretty wolf," he ruffled his hair, and walked off.
Thane stood there rooted in his spot, what exactly was he doing to him?
"This is going to be a lot of work," he mumbled softly. For some reason he didn’t quite get, he felt weak.
"Are you coming pretty wolf?"
"It’s Thane, damn you!" He cursed.
"You are still pretty," he smirked, "Come on, let us go to wherever you are going to."
Then it hit him, he didn’t know where he was going to! He paused, and took a good look at his surroundings. It was a narrow path with bushes on both ends.
"I still do not know which way they took," he rubbed his chin.
"Who now?" Carmilla suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Oh," he flinched, "Stop doing that!" He almost snapped.
"Answer the question."
He exhaled deeply, "I.. am looking for my best friend’s mother, she was kidnapped by rogue wolves, I had followed thier footprints till I got to the crossroads, then I could not find it."
"Oh, that is bad. Why did you take this road then?’
Thane threw him an annoyed look, "You literally made me take this road! How am I supposed to concentrate when you just come up on me, and just start chasing me around?"
Carmilla scratched his neck, "Oops, sorry."
"Hm? How about we tried a little teleporting?" Carmilla winked.
"Hm?"
Carmilla held him by the waist, drawing him closer, "Hey!" His cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and anger.
"You might want to hold on tighter," Carmilla looked down at him.
Heh? Carmilla was taller than him? How?!
"You are defin
itely a curse to my evening," he shook with rage.
"Off we go!"
