Chapter 413: Setting Things In Motion

ZINA

"I must say your sense of feel ever remains astounding," Modrich drawled in a peculiar creepy voice, "even blindfolded, you still know that it’s me."

Zina smiled, "While I wouldn’t deny the appeal of knowing dirt by smell whenever it moves, surely you’re not so stupid to believe that the reason why I know it’s you is simply because I am endowed with s wonderful nose."

Even without seeing him, Zina knew that his jaw ticked in that peculiar way it did whenever he was angry—which was almost every time.

She still didn’t know how she managed to survive living with the WolfKnight’s for almost eighteen years, but if she was realizing something especially after going through the torture of Nirvana under Rose’s hands, then it would be that the WolfKnight’s were truly horrible people.

"Even when you’re defeated, you dare look haughty to me! I must remind you that Daemon NorthSteed is not here to protect you!"

Zina chuckled simply because she had no choice but to. "You speak as if he has always been there to protect me when I suffered under the hands of your pack."

He scoffed loudly. "Suffered?" He spat, "as if! We raised you! We gave you life! If anything you should be grateful!"

The smile was immediately away from her face as a blank expression which she learnt from Daemon came over her.

"Grateful?" She repeated, quite stunned, "was I not showing my gratefulness when I prophesied about the rise of the WolfKnight’s?"

"I must give it to you, in that regards you had me stunned," he said in a gleeful voice, "who would have thought that our once pathetic pack of not more than twenty five members would one day rise to become diamond miners ourselves."

"Care for another prophecy? Afterall your position as Alpha is one stolen in blood. As a blood alpha who killed your father to become alpha, I’m sure you’re quite restless. Always dreading the day when another will come for your head under the disguise of challenging your Alpha position."

He immediately gripped her by the collar, spittle flying from his mouth as he angrily spoke.

"You damn wench! I shall have you know that it’s pretty fair to challenge one for the Alpha position! It’s not my fault that my father was so weak!"

"Weak?" Zina repeated, uncaring for his sudden show of violence. After seeing it all in the space of her kidnap, there was nothing rather quite shocking any more.

"The world might not know it, Modrich. And that pack of yours might pretend to not know it either, but I know challenging your father was anything but fair. You murdered him."

He gasped lightly, his hold on her loosening. "Do not say anything you do not know about!"

"What? Are you scared people will realize that the only you could have defeated your father was if you had been injecting doses of Wolfsbane into his bloodstream days before the actual so called challenge?"

"Shut up! Just shut up! How... how... how have you come about such ridiculous information?!"

Zina pushed off his alrwady loosening hands from her collar. "I asked if you would care for another prophecy. You still haven’t answered me?"

"How dare them send me to a mad woman! Does Rowan not know that you’re quite untethered?! Taming you? Ah! Even at your own slaughterhouse, you dare pretend to have the upper hand!"

Zina mustered a smile, "Since you won’t answer me, I shall take initiative then. Guess who you would meet the moment you step out of this Cave Manor?"

She could hear his breath hitch in fear, although he tried not to show it. Zina had the advantage though because unlike most that tried to pretend not to superstitious, Modrich was different.

He believed in the supernatural. He believed in prophecies and fortune telling. And after having see the evidence of a prophecy come to pass in his life, one could say that he lived and breathed for superstition.

And Zina was pressing on that advantage to enact her cold blooded revenge against the man who sold her out. She had been lukewarm at first about it because she had been more concerned about saving her life in the North, but now that it had all passed and in the face of the Nirvana torture, she realized she had been wrong.

She should have destroyed the WolfKnight’s a long time ago. She should have squashed them under her feet and made sure that trauma of hers remained buried with their despicable bodies. But better late than ever, right?

"Once you step of this Cave Manor, you shall meet someone who will challenge you for your position as Alpha."

She could imagine the shock on his face while he tried to grapple with how that could possibly affect him. Then he laughed deliriously like Zina was barking mad.

"I’m a superior Lycan Shifter, Zina WolfKnight. The rules state a challenger for an Alpha position must be from the land of the pack. In all of the GreenLands, there’s not one Lycan Shifter that can defeat me! And the rules also state that no higher shifter can challenge me either!" He finshed, his voice dripping with confidence.

"The rules?" Zina repeated, pretending to taste the words on her lips, "did the rules say anything about the Deformed as well? We are in chaotic times, Modrich, and it’s funny that you think the rules will still apply even now."

He gripped her by the arm, pressing as if to show her his strength. "Don’t mess with me, Zina. You’re a WolfKnight as well, having such hate towards your pack is unnatural."

Zina smiled up at him, "Because you will soon die, let me tell you more. After you’re defeated today, the WolfKnight’s, a mid ranking pack soon to become a high rank pack shall become slaves to the North."

That must have triggered him for he slammed Zina’s body against the wall. "The people you so easily talk about becoming slaves are my family. My wife, my soon to be born child, my people!"

Zina grinned evilly. "Even better."

"I must take my leave! Rowan can have another person to tame you! There’s no using trauma against someone who doesn’t even feel traumatised in the slightest."

Zina maintained her mad grin. "Farewell Modrich. I’m afraid I cannot see you off to the underworld."

His only response to that was slamming the door hard until the rocky walls of the manor to shake from the force.

Things had already been set in motion—now what remained was for Seraph and Ada to do their part.
