Chapter 412: Seraph’s Mission

SERAPH

Seraph ran until she was sure that she was so out of breath, and her leg: would give out under her for the sole reason that she had cruelly maltreated them since that morning.

She had been running for what? Four, or maybe five hours. Yet she couldn’t shake off the feeling that if she dared stop a little, then the scary strange people from the Cave Manor would swoop in and take her back.

And she didn’t want to go back. Not because she detested the place, but because she strongly believed that she was on a mission to save the only woman in the world who was very good to her.

More than that, she feared that she would stumble upon the deformed. Even though she heard the creatures wouldn’t attack someone in the West as they had been set off against other regions, Seraph still feared them.

For that reason, she dared not stop, nor did she dare seek anyone out in a bid to ask for directions. Instead, she relied on the map she had stolen from the manor that was not exactly very helpful... together with a strange material she had come upon.

That morning, as she left the Theta’s room after dressing her, she had set part of their plans in motion. Which was her reaching the Alpha King on the Theta’s behalf.

So even though it would have been ordinarily crazy to conceive that the Theta had seen his majesty’s exact location, Seraph had long come into acceptance that the woman she served was no ordinary woman.

And perhaps, she knew that fact better than the Theta would ever know.

Maybe that was Seraph still slipped and called her Theta all the time instead of her majesty. Precisely because Theta meant ’the all spiritual, wise one.’ And as far as Seraph was concerned, no one embodied those features the way Theta Zina did.

So as she began her mission that morning, taking a secret path that was marked in the map, she had reached end of the path only to find that the exit had an iron gate locking it in place.

But just as she was about to despair at that dead end, she noticed that the lock seemed to have been removed quite intentionally... almost like someone had anticipated her coming.

She knew the removal was quite recent because iron rust debris that had fallen from the lock area could be found on the ground. Something that a good night of wind would have blown off.

And not only that, but a guide map to navigate the surroundings of the Cave Manor had been left outside the small gate which Seraph had had to crawl through from.

It had been just as scary as it was amazing the way the guide map had been dropped literally on her laps. But having nothing proper to rely on to navigate her way to the Brown Beach. Apparently, the ocean from which the beach stemmed was so vast it contained a lot of beaches as well. So finding the Brown Beach proved to be harder that Seraph ever contemplated it would be.

Heart thudding against her chest as she slowed down to read through the guide map without stopping, her eyes roamed over the browned pages. The area where she was stuck in was desolate, and even as one or two people passed her, she refused to dare ask anyone for direction.

It was way too risky. She couldn’t risk being captured again. And no matter how much she tried to see them as normal werewolves, she couldn’t get off the trauma that everyone in the West was against them.

So getting another sense of direction, she ran for a fork in the road. She had already stumbled upon two wrong beaches that morning alone, and she couldn’t afford one more wrong turn.

Why was it also so confusing there in the West—she longed to be back in the North, blissfully sleeping on her bed while she dreamt of serving the Theta the next morning.

Tears streaming down her cheeks as her heart and legs burned to a certain kind of pain, she didn’t dare stop. Instead she cried mid-run, the harsh sun flogging against her face.

If only she had a better wolf, then she would have done better. But she knew better than anyone that running in wolf form was far riskier.

Not to mention the inconvenience it would present should she want to look at the guide maps, there was also a tracking issue. It would be far easier to track her down in wolf form that human.

Wiping her sweat along with her tears, her heart cheered as she heard yet another sound of waves crashing against the shore. As she came about the beach, she looked up at the sign.

"Brown Beach" it read, and the sigh of relief it produced from within her was probably the most beautiful sound she had ever heard.

But no one was there, not as far as her eyes could see.

Staggering on her feet she walked along the beach. She couldn’t afford to scream his majesty. If he was truly there, then none of them could afford anyone having knowledge of his presence in the West.

So silently, she gritted through her pain. Her tired eyes became alert like that of an eagle despite the tiredness that threatened to close them.

And when a hand gripped her at her shoulder from behind, she screeched, knife out as she whirled around to stab the person.

She was being paranoid... or whatever. But none of it matter when she saw who it was.

Zelkov Screamers—their new Gamma.

"Gamma Zelkov," Seraph gasped while he easily caught her knife.

"Her majesty’s maidservant? I thought I smelt someone familiar?"

That was when Seraph finally collapsed to the ground although the gamma didn’t allow for her fall. He caught her easily by the arm, giving her frail body support.

"Where’s her majesty?"

"Where’s his majesty?"

They both asked together as one.

At the same time, his majesty emerged from behind him, his face cloaked in a maddening mixture of rage and despair. He looked gaunt, like he had gone through all five shades of grief in one night.

Seraph quickly stood on her feet. Crossing her hand, she bowed, "Greetings your...."

"Where is Zina?!" He billowed, cutting her off abruptly.

But instead of answering him immediately, Seraph could only stare at the staff he clutched tightly in his hand. Even though it was wrapped in black silk, she knew it was without doubt the Theta’s staff.

The very one she had been tasked to bring away.
