Chapter 411: A Long-Awaited Visitor
ZINA
"Missing out on her is your greatest regret?" Ada asked in a strange voice.
"More than anything." Zina answered strongly, "and I won’t allow her to sacrifice anymore for me again. So you must help me, Prophetess Ada."
The woman shook her head. "Luna Ameneris must have communicated to you through the runes asking you to bring the staff. Just do that and everything will be fine. Whatever elaborate plan you’re cooking will be doomed to fail. Besides, this is her decision. More than whatever regrets you might have, she has even more regrets than you."
Because she knew they were running out of time, she closed the remaining step separating her from the woman and the gripped her by her frail arm.
"You haven’t asked me what I saw of you ?" She whispered harshly, "haven’t you stayed by her side all these years to see if her prophecy of doom could be possibly upturned? Haven’t you waited all these years to see if it were truly possible for a curse vision to take a different turn."
To her surprise, the woman’s eyes misted with tears. "Your mother... she has lived a terrible life." She said.
Zina smiled sadly, "then allow me to take away all the terribleness. Let me give her a shot at having a good life."
The woman turned sober. "The only good life she could ever possibly have is one with her daughter. So do you mean to tell me that even you will suffer this night?"
Zina smiled, "Of course." She said, the words tasting wrong on her tongue.
"In that case I shall submit myself to your guidance," Ada said, seemingly not taking note of her blunder, "what will you’ve me do, Great Seer?"
The unhealthy amount of times Zina was called by that title was getting to her head in a bad kind of way. Her shoulders now hung heavy with duties and expectations. One wrong move, and she would topple to the wrong side.
"Seraph must have successfully left the Cave Manor with your help?" She asked furtively.
"Indeed. Although as to whether she can make it to her destination or not is in her hands entirely. Truth be told, I can’t do exactly much. And these past few days, I’ve risked enough to stir suspicion."
"I believe you can do just enough for me," Zina gritted, "This afternoon exactly at twelve will be the blood moon." She continued, staring meaningfully at the woman whose eyes slightly widened at that information.
"Is that true? You saw such a vision as well?" She said, voice filled with awe like she never expected that Zina’s powers would be that impactful.
Zina leaned down to her ear. Still gripping the woman by the arm, she whispered the plan she had in mind to her.
Ada listened carefully, and then she left. Once, there wasn’t much hope. But now that Zina had confirmed the possibility of an inside help, hope bloomed like something poisonous in her heart.
She knew deep down somehwere that she was scared. Yet in that moment as she stood on her two legs in that cold, damp, dark room, she didn’t feel a lick of fear.
The night before as she chanted ’Brynn’s’ name under her lips while her body was wrecked by sobs, she had overcome all her fears.
For if her unborn child could leave the world wordlessly and fearlessly —for that was how Zina choose to view the miscarriage—then she too could be just as fearless as well.
With that determination set in her heart, Zina tore a piece of the black gown she wore. Then she folded it and used it to cover her eyes—the material instantly forming a blindfold and taking away her sight.
She had been seeing the world for the past few months, so much so that she had forgotten that once upon a time she was a blind girl who could not see the world from a very young age and was then forced to rely on a stick far longer than her at the time.
She knew that when the door opened next, it wouldn’t be Rose or Orchid coming in next. No, Rowan and his Master had infact invited a far more peculiar and interesting guest. One who they most probably thought would be far more effective in breaking Zina than their so-called tamers.
But what all of them didn’t know was that she had in fact, been waiting for this guest. Was quite prepared to recieve the person in fact.
Complete darkness enveloping her, she stayed completely still, her back to the door. The sparse wind in what was her torture room seemed to whisper against her face while she waited, and listened.
In that room, she had lost herself, lost hope and then lost her child. It was quite fitting to say that more than anything, she eager to rewrite the history of what the room would mean for her.
Instead of it representing the long list of her most painful memories, she wanted it to now serve as her chamber for vengeance.
So with her senses hypersensitive, a smile tugged against the corners of her lips when she heard the first heavy footstep just at the corridor leading to the room.
Then a second footstep, and a third one.
Tip. Tap.
Her heart also beat exactly according to the rhythm of the heavy footsteps.
Tip. Tap.
The door creaked, then made a swinging sound as it was opened. But Zina didn’t turn to behold the visitor. Not just yet. She was now blind, albeit temporarily, so there was no real need.
Tip. Tap.
The heavy footsteps approached her from behind and only stopped a hairs breath away, the visitor probably thinking it was so strange that she stood that tall when she should in fact look mournful like the very picture of a woman waiting for the executioners axe.
Just because she didn’t want the visitor to have the first word, she said,
"I’ve long been waiting for you, Alpha Modrich WolfKnight." She said slowly, catching the gasp of surprise he let out as she called his name before she even turned to him.
She whirled slowly to face him, the long ribbon of her makeshift blindfold whipping against her face. Still holding the dark smile, she decided it was high time to begin to set things in motion for that day that will turn to the longest night.
But before that, she must first destroy the man before her who had first destroyed her everything. Afterall, as far as she was concerned, this great tragedy started because he and his cursed father sold her out to Moorim and Eldric.
