Chapter 410: Her Greatest Regret
Chapter 410: Her Greatest Regret
ZINA
"A seer just like you’ve assumed. I am the one they once called Ada the Prophetess. And I foretold your birth to your mother even before it ever happened."
Lysandra remained unflinching even as her lips exposed her own identity. Instead of looking scared to have been caught, she instead seemed to be quite at ease. And it in fact did confirm Zina’s prediction that the woman was there for her mother.
Lysandra, or was it Ada, stared at her with eyes that gleamed with quiet knowledge. Her grey hair seemed even more prominent in the dark room that only had a small window that barely allowed for a trickle of sunlight, and she seemed even far more gaunt than she was when Zina met her for the first time at the Cave Manor.
What was her reason for inflitrating the Cave Manor? And how was she able to do something that even Daemon clearly had a hard time doing?
Of course the Cave Manor didn’t have any of his spies. But Zina had felt something was off given the way Seraph had gotten his hands on the map and candles. She had honestly sent the girl on the errand in the hopes to few out how tight the security in the manor was.
Then many oddities followed. Like the fact that Rowan and his Master left Seraph by her side fearlessly. And then there was the fact that they seemed to not find her power of sight as a risk.
"I’m curious," the woman said in a low voice although it didn’t seem she was afraid of another hearing her, "you said the entrance code wasn’t the only thing that gave me away. How were you so sure I was a spy?"
"Many things in fact. For instance, how Seraph got his hands on the map of the manor."
The woman smiled slowly. "I guess you mean your maidservant. I must say, you’re smarter than I give you credit for. Since you’ve discovered who I was, it’s only fair that I make a discovery of my own on your behalf."
"What do you mean?"
"Your powers awakened yesterday night. Is that not so, Great Seer?"
Zina stilled, schooling her features into a mask of ignornace. Until she understood the woman’s true motives, there was no way she was going to speak of the revelations she had the night before.
Ada chuckled, seemingly unfazed by her lack of answer. "You acted out so boldly today. You must have a plan. I am curious, Great Seer. How do you think this will end? With whose death? With how many losses? And how much pain?"
Zina narrowed her eyes at the woman. "Why have you been helping me?" She asked her.
"For today exactly." Ada answered flippantly. "I have submitted myself to this cursed manor for thirty five years simply because I’ve waited for this day." She finished like that made a lot of sense.
"And what is it about this day that has made you sacrifice thirty-five years of your life?" Zina asked, glancing at the door behind the woman to make sure the coast was still clear.
Everything would start happening around noon as long as the events in her visions happened exactly as she saw them. So far, everything was going fine. But one important factor would lie with what the woman had to do for her.
Ada didn’t answer. Instead she stared at Zina suspiciously, "From your dark circles I can see you didn’t sleep a wink last night. Which means your powers must have been awakened. You must have seen me in the streams of turbulent visions you had which was what made you very confident to approach me in the first place." She finished like she had just stumbled upon a secret known by a few.
And she was right. Last night when she retreated to her room after the very baffling and rage-inciting discussion she had with Master and Rowan, Zina had been thrown into a trance-like world, nothing like the garden of white flowers that she was used to.
And it was the turbulent visions that had greeted her like an otherworldly power had been unleashed within her that gave her the extra confidence to push forward to her plan.
Every evil will eventually have its end. Whether it be the deformed, the seven elders or Master.
Ada smiled sadly. "It’s a pity though that such great eyes only awakened at this time. I suppose from the sad expression you’re unwilling to show even now that a good end is far fetched."
Zina stilled herself. "A good end was never in the books from the beginning."
The woman blinked, staring at her blankly. "What fuels you now. Love of the man they want to destroy or loss of your child?"
Zina smiled bitterly. "None." She answered without a pause, "if any of those fuelled me, then I might have long wallowed in death from grief."
"So what keeps you going, Great Seer?"
"A mission that was given to me since I was fourteen which I forgot. There’s someone I must restore back at his place. Only after then can I wallow in love and loss."
The woman eyed her, "I heard the North is a great place, with prosperous people and lands. Each Alpha while allowed to dominate their territories is subject to the wisdom of the ancient Arctic Wolf. He must be a good ruler then,"
Zing blinked back unshed tears. "I need your help," she said sternly.
The woman chuckled lightly. "But it’s not for you that I’ve come here. It’s for your mother."
"What I need you to do helps my mother as well," Zina said, straightening herself. "All you need to do is put things in motion."
Ada stared at her strangely. "You wish to take her away from here?" She asked like she couldn’t quite believe Zina.
"I know that she plots to sacrifice herself for me to save me," Zina said in the most authoritative voice that she could muster, "you’re probably in on that plot. But I must tell you now to stop. More than missing my love and mourning my child, the greatest regret I have is existing for twenty-four years without looking for her."
