The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 392: For Every Ten Minutes

Chapter 392: For Every Ten Minutes

Trigger Warning: Reference to violence against a child is contained in this Chapter. Tread carefully.

DAEMON

Zelkov harshly tugged off the gag that obstructed the woman from speaking while Melwyn spluttered and gasped for breath.

Finally, those light eyes of hers rested on Daemon. She was quite shameless in fact, she didn’t seem unnerved that she had been caught. Nor did she seem shaken by the mention of the illegitimate son that she had born and discreetly kept in the custody of a childless family while sending them money every now and then.

"I know who you’re Daemon NorthSteed," she gritted, eyes spitting fire, "of all the cruelty that you’re capable of, taking a a child’s life is not one of them. He’s just four! I am the one who you should fight! Leave him out of it!"

"Fight?" Daemon repeated slowly, "is that how you see the dynamics between both of us right now? As that of sparring partners?" He said, his claws gripping her by the neck, threatening to poison her with wolf venom and suffocate her at the same time.

She choked, eyes bulging. "You," she gritted, "deserve.my.betrayal!" She screamed tears running down her face.

But they were not sad tears. They were angry ines. Victorious ones in fact.

Daemon was unaffected. This was not why he was here—not to exchange words with a dying woman. He was there for answers, and he would pry them out of her whether by cruelty or force.

Melwyn was far crueller than she would have thought possible. But that was fine, he too was once chanted as Unia and the Ripper for his sharp intelligence and his brutal strength in war.

Compared to whatever high horse Melwyn had placed herself on, Daemon was capable of far more cruelty.

Zelkov handed him a box and he opened it for Melwyn to behold the little pinky finger that was in it. The woman screamed instantly, wide eyes darting to Daemon like she was beholding a totally unexpected demon.

How foolish of her to think that she knew him. How foolish of her to count on his preservation against hitting women and children.

"For every ten minutes you do not give me answer, one more body part of your beloved four year old son will be cut off," Daemon threatened in the most deadly voice he only used on the people he hated to the very core of their being.

The finger in fact, did not belong to Dove but to a recently deceased boy of the same stature and age. But that was hardly the point; Dove was in fact in his custody back at the Ice Castle. The reason why Daemon hadn’t harmed the boy wasn’t because of mercy.

It was his foolishness.

Hell, he might not believe that children should not suffer for the sins of their parents, but his wife was with a child after all, and such cruelty had been done to her. It was only right that he meted the same kind of cruelty on the same people that instigated it.

An eye for an eye. Tooth for a tooth. And the fact that he held back from doing so felt like he was betraying Zina’s current sufferings. If she had lost the child as Daemon had violent nightmares of, then it was only right for him to take the life of Dove, right?

And yet his foolish principles held him back.

But at least, Melwyn knew nothing of all that. The woman was still screaming and sobbing violently at the same time, rooted in disbelief at the mere sight of her son’s amputated fingers.

For good reason, that pissed the hell out of Daemon.

Gripping her anew, he tugged her down until their faces were mere inches apart. The chandelier rattled as if prepared to fall.

"Listen to me carefully, Melwyn. The money I entered this room, your ten minutes started to count. You’ve about four minutes remaining so you should think carefully of the words you just say to me next. If not,’I might just be so angry I would send Dove’s head next."

Melwyn shook violently from fear... and something else. She was staring deep in Daemon’s eyes, probably searching for a lick of nonexistent kindness.

"How could you...." She muttered.

"How could as well, Melwyn. I treated you well, allowed you in my inner circles, and yet? You betrayed me and handed my pregnant wife to the wolves."

She swallowed, seemingly ignorant to that fact. "She was pregnant?" She stuttered.

"That is no longer any concern of yours. Tell me where Zina is. This game, you’ve lost this round. And the next one will cost your life."

The woman sniffled, "I took her to Rowan’s manor. But since I’ve wound up missing, he would certainly not be there anymore as he would have been alerted."

"Then he must have taken Zina to his Master’s abode," Daemon gritted, "tell me where he stays at?"

"I do not know. Only Rowan has direct contact with Master." The woman answered and Daemon knew that to be the truth.

"Fine, give us Rowan’s manor’s address. I have someone here who can still track his steps no matter how elusive he is," Daemon said, gesturing at Zelkov who memorized the address and then set out.

"Do you even know why I betrayed you?" Melwyn said, spent and hanging limply while the chandelier creaked some more.

"Does it matter at this point," Daemon said cruelly as he imagined which pain he should show her next. Until he was sure that Zina was found and safe sound, he would not do anything that would take the woman’s life.

"Freya...." The woman stuttered while Daemon cut her a cold glare.

After the betrayal did Daemon and Kairos put heads together to imagine where things had gone wrong. It was on finding her son, Dove, that they discovered that a woman had been with Melwyn throughout her pregnancy.

And that woman had been none other than Freya Fergus, Daemon’s previous mate whom as far as he was concerned was the biggest mistake the moon goddess made in his life.

A mistake that still carried on even now.
