Chapter 391: The Lunar Den
Chapter 391: The Lunar Den
DAEMON
The gambling house was known as the Lunar Den. A place that served as one of Daemon’s greatest accomplishments in establishing his Spy Network in the West.
The Lunar Den was an exclusive gaming establishment, catering to the elite and powerful werewolves. Its elegant façade, adorned with intricate carvings and polished silver accents, gleamed under the light of the full moon.
Inside, the atmosphere was refined and sophisticated, with crystal chandeliers casting a warm glow over the lavish décor.
High-stakes games of chance and skill unfolded in the private salons, where high-ranking officials, wealthy merchants, and influential werewolves gathered to wager fortunes and forge alliances.
The Lunar Den’s proprietor, a mysterious but solid figure from a wealthy Pack, known only as Lord Modred, ensured that every guest felt welcome and accommodated, as long as they were willing to play by the house rules.
Behind the scenes, however, the Lunar Den concealed a more sinister purpose. Daemon’s true interests lay in manipulating the intricate web of power and influence that bound the elite together. But he knew he still had to navigate the waters most carefully especially due to the autocratic nature of the West with central power vested solely on the Seven Elder Witches.
It was due to the need to navigate with great care that had caused Daemon to not have an entirely solid foot in the West. Perhaps if he had been a little reckless in his dealings, then he would have long gotten the location of the ever elusive Master and Rowan.
But kg was no time to regret and moan the past. He had to forge ahead, and the key to that lied with the woman who was currently bound and gagged in one the establishment’s finer room.
Covering their tracks from the harsh way they had invaded the borders, Daemon and his companions seemed like the very picture of travelling customers out there for some fun.
But they still had their hood up for he was aware his skin colour hardly blended with the place. He was pale whereas the better half of the people there in the West were tanned just like Zelkov.
It would not be hard to point Daemon out as foreigner at the first instance. So the rest of the pulled their hood up while they made their way to the receptionist.
"What game do you want to play," the woman muttered disinterestingly like she was forced to worm a non paying job. A fact that Daemon knew was untrue of course.
"Death’a game," Daemon dralwed under his hood causing the woman’s eyes to snap to them for the first time since they approached her little office.
She was middle aged, a mother in fact. But Lord Modred being the one that Daemon had allowed to take over the reins of the place had strategically appointed the woman as the receptionist.
She had just the right duh face to clip the wings of customers who think they could do one over her.
"How many stages will you like to play?" The woman asked, staring at all five of them carefully especially Daemon whose features were shadowed by the hood over his head.
The Lunar Den was lit by candle chandeliers of all sorts, but it was still night enough that his full features could be easily gleaned.
"The seven stages," Daemon answered easily, discreetly showing her the green jadeite seal of a wolf that served as token within the spy network in the West.
The woman swallowed on seeing the jade, the she leaned over to them. "We have important guests. They are from the WaterFang Pack. They are next door to the room you’re looking for, avoid them." She said, discreetly slipping Daemon a key.
The WaterFang Pack? Daemon knew well of them although some might be audacious enough to say that their reputation’s preceded them.
They were a high ranking pack in the West, and Daemon had good reasons to believe that they were in the same bed with Rowan and his kinds.
"Naturally," Daemon answered with a dark grin she couldn’t see, "and lord Modred?" He asked.
"He’s probably lost himself in the skirts of another fair maiden." The woman said with an eye roll. "I shall have the servants direct him to your room."
"Thank you for your help," Daemonsaid, collecting the key and breezing away before the woman could finish saying, ’you’re welcome, my lord."
They climbed the stairs, avoiding drunken men with inflated egos. The air of ease there was almost insulting—any stranger walking into the West for the first time would never have realized that a war had been declared against them.
They were so at ease, drinking, gambling, taking women. And their ease probably stemmed from the fact that the Master had promised them that a wolf above other wolves would fight for them.
What a pipe dream... what a set of useless people. Instead of working hard to reach even the position of a Lycan Wolf, they were busy living a far easy and smooth life. Taking down the West was going to be invariably east. The war he was to fight was only going to be against the Deformed and not necessarily against them.
"Bunch of lazy things!" Norima Talga spat from his side while Daemon smirked.
She hadn’t seen anything yet.
They unlocked and entered the room in question. Right in the middle of it, Melwyn was strapped to the chandelier that would give out anytime soon under her weight, while Mandem Zedd held a spiked whip in hand.
The strapped woman’s eyes was bloodied, her mouth gagged. And on sensing the new company in the room, she lifted her, staring through red eyes straight at Daemon who had tugged off his hood.
He smiled at her, exposing canine and sharp fangs that promised a far bloodier show than whatever Mandem had showed her.
"You can take a rest, Zedd." She said to the woman who bowed to him while he approached the bound woman slowly.
Lifting his fingers that hand sharpened into claws, he trailed it from her face to her chest, leaving blood in the wake while Melwyn’s eyes bulged defiantly.
But not for long. He would soon squash that defiance with his fists.
"Alpha Kairos sends his regard," Daemon said, "he’s asked to tell you that your son, Dove, is in my custody and may soon turn up dead."
