Chapter 380: Brynn Is Gone

ZINA

"There was a time I had nothing," Zina pressed forward, ignoring the woman’s baiting. Should her rod descend on her all over again, she would not care.

But as for the words that were screaming in her, she must speak them.

"A time when all I had was a bubble." She continued without stop, feeling out of breath, "these bubbles is precisely what you’ve been showing me from my first torture—images of my past with the WolfKnights."

"What do you mean to say?" Rose said with a smile, obviously enjoying how pathetic and haggard Zina looked. The woman probably thought she was rambling like a mad woman, and maybe Zina was mad.

"What I mean to say is that there was once upon a time when all I had was nothing, and right until you kidnapped me, I had everything—a pack, a husband, a child, a family."

Rose smirked, her dark eyes dilating into something evil. "And now you’re back to square one right?"

"Not exactly. I’ve always been told that he was has everything must be prepared to loose everything. Before coming here, Rose, I was prepared to loose everything."

"And yet you mourn you child who has left you so, I guess you weren’t so prepared." The woman shrugged casually like they were talking about some plaything and not Zina’s unborn baby.

"True, I overestimated myself. I thought I was prepared," Zina gritted, tears stinging her eyes, "if I was prepared I would have left with my dignity at the very least. But since you’ve stripped of everything, I only ask that you be prepared to loose everything as well. Because, I Zina NorthSteed, will not let you off!"

Rose cackled, laughing like she was thoroughly amused. "So you won’t curse me like you did Orchid? You’re getting more creative, Great Seer,"

Zina gripped the woman by her collar, bringing her face close to hers. "I am your curse," she spat at her, and for a moment, Rose’s face froze as she beheld a different kind of madness in Zina’s light blue eyes.

"And the only way you will escape your curse which is me is to make sure that I don’t come out of this alive." Zina threatened in a grave voice that bounced off the walls,

"Should I come out of this alive, even the goddess will weep at what I will do to you."

From behind her, Orchid smacked her hard on the head with her rod. "Why is she still babbling so much when we have already reached her fifth nirvana?!" She gritted while Rose recovered herself, anger coloring her eyes.

"So you’re a tough one, right?" She said, dragging Zina by her hair, "fine, I will play along. But rest assured you will not die, but when I’m done with you and you come into you true powers, you will not be able to touch me."

Zina laughed again, staggering to her feet as Rose dragged her by the hair until they stood to their full heights, naked woman to a fully clothed sneering woman.

Not knowing what dignity was anymore, she grabbed Rose by her hand that had her hair in a tight grip. "Your only mistake in that fifth torture was showing me my husband," Zina gritted while hot tears rolled down her cheeks, "I might have lost my child as result, but my resolve is even stronger now."

Rose scoffed, shrugging off her hand. "That can never be, Zina. I do not make mistakes."

"That is where you’re wrong, Red Sister. For now if you want to bring me down, then you will have to do more than just kill my child and my mother, you will have to kill Daemon NorthSteed as well, and after that you would have to kill me as well."

All hope might seem lost, but she still had Daemon as a motivation to fight harder. Her strength might be at the end, but for him, she was willing to hold out until she burnt out.

Rage colored the Rose’s features at her words, and lightning fast, her rod came descending for Zina probably to send her off to another of their so called Nirvana. But it never reached her as a different hand gripped it.

"That is enough for today," Rowan said gruffly, "anymore and she would cease breathing."

Rose glared, but obeyed, putting her rod down.

Zina turned to Rowan and then smiled through her tears. "I said the same thing to Rose but in the spirit of pretending that you were not eavesdropping on everything that was happening in here, I shall say it to you as well; should I survive this, the price would be your life."

Rowan stared at her with empty eyes that spoke far more words than his lips would have ordinarily spoken. His eyes said that there would never be a time of the day when Zina would be able to touch him. That was all the answer she got before her eyes closed and darkness took over her.

When Zina woke again, she was in a room. Small, with light filtering from outside, and beside her someone was weeping.

"Seraph?" She said groggily on seeing the maidservant.

"My lady! You’re awake!" The girl said and began to weep even more, "I can’t believe what those monsters did to you!"

Zina stood with her help, her body aching her allover. But she ignored her own pain, examining Seraph instead. "Did they touch you?" She asked.

The girl shook her head vigorously, "no they didn’t. A man came and told me to follow him here. We are currently in a cave-like place of some sorts." She said through her tears.

So they were still at her place of torture? Zina sighed in relief, at least they hadn’t touched Seraph just yet. But the fact they kept her maidservant made her very uncomfortable at what they could possibly have in mind to do to her.

She noticed that her body was clean, probably courtesy of Seraph who had already forgotten how they agreed she should address her.

"Thank you," Zina said, "for cleaning me up."

Serpah shook her head, "It is what I should do. But... but I saw something. Blood...." she trailed hesitantly.

Zina tilted her head up, and then smiled through the glass of tears adorning her eyes. "Brynn is gone, Seraph. She is at a better place now."

And then the girl began to weep anew.
