Chapter 370: The Northern Heralder
Chapter 370: The Northern Heralder
DAEMON
Norima Talga was brought in by Kelkov who came in with a strange looking man that Daemon could sense was at least a superior Lycan Shifter with a killing aura surrounding him.
Norima Talga didn’t look happy in the least to have been literally kidnapped by Kelkov, but the woman read the room well enough to not react.
"Your majesty," she greeted with a low bow. Daemon had chosen the throne room again, and the rest of his direct subordinates were there as well.
"Rise." Daemon commanded, observing that Kelkov held the staff in question in his hands.
It was wrapped in a black silk cloth, but he could still tell that it was it.
"Who is this man with you," He asked Kelkov, referring to the Lycan Shifter. It wasn’t until then that Daemon noticed he was actually a part of the NorthSteed Pack.
They were about fifteen people from the pack registered as a Lycan Shifter, and Daemon could swear this man’s name wasn’t there. So who exactly was he.
Even though Daemon felt the pack bond with him, he didn’t feel the loyalty nor reverence any pack member would have shown instantly. This man was distant, hesitant to show his respect even. But he did so nonetheless.
"Greetings your majesty." He greeted.
"You’re a member of the Pack and yet I am sure you’re not registered," Daemon accused first before the man could delve into why he was there in the first place.
He knew that for Kelkov to bring him in, then he had to be of some importance.
The man was ever so slightly startled that Daemon knew he was a part of the NorthSteed. Almost like he cloaked that fact with his scent and had naturally expected no one would ever know... not even his alpha.
"I am Reed, a member of the Pack indeed Alpha."
"And yet I’ve a feeling you would rather not be. Kelkov, why is he here?"
Kelkov bowed, "This man claims that the Luna Queen tasked him to take Norima Talga’s life should she ever step out of the coven with the staff. We had to fight him off to get Norima and the staff here."
Daemon shut close the book he had been pretending had half of his attention as he perked up on that news. Just how many stops had Zina pulled in the eventuality that this would happen? Just how much had she prepared for this accident that had befallen them all of a sudden?
Daemon feated Zina had been preparing herself for the eventuality of this—at least if not her strength, then her mind. And while that should have appeased him a bit, his unrest only grew bigger.
People who prepared for the worst usually did crazy things, and Zina wasn’t going to be an exception. And if the vision of seeing him dead had steeled her determination, then he feared for her stubbornness that would follow in the face of her captors.
Just how much will they try to break her and how much will she resist them fiercely?
Yet again, he tried to reach the bond, and he met the same wall he had been meeting for the past twelve hours. Except this time around the wall had grown even colder.
"You must be a Heralder for the Thralgor Spy Guild then," Daemon guessed while the man drew back in shock.
"You know about us?" He said hesitantly, eying Daemon.
"Naturally my wife told me," Daemon answered easily even though that hadn’t been how it had happened, "in case you don’t know it before now, your leader is missing. She’s been kidnapped by the Westerners."
The man clenched his fists, glaring. "Who shall I kill to make this right?" He growled lowly.
Ahh... did Daemon not like that kind of spirit. He wouldn’t have guessed that such a person was among those that worked for Zina’s soy guild. Clearly, he had underestimated her. And right now, Daemon needed all the help and resources he could get.
He was at least wise enough to understand that him alone wouldn’t be close enough to cause a ripple in this ocean. He needed every capable person he could get his hands on—only then would he able to move them as priced pieces on his Wolf Chess Board.
"There are a lot of people for you to kill. But I’m afraid I do not work with people who defile their Alphas and deny their packs." Daemon said, his eyes glowing gold.
But the man still remained standing tall an defiant. Daemon knew of the kind of people that Zina recruited to the spy guild. Abandoned People.
Just like she once was.
This man was probably no different. He must have suffered during Eldric’s reign and Zina saved his life—even now his pain seemed through the weak link that still tethered them together as Alpha and subject.
"The NorthSteed Pack doesn’t deserve my allegiance...." He began to protest defiantly but Daemon cut him off.
"Spare me your grievances, subject. It is either you kneel and submit to your Alpha and King, or you can leave this hall gathering your small group of friends in an attempt to save your leader. An attempt I’m sure you know won’t succeed."
The man seemed to think about it while Daemon observed him closer. Even though Yaren and Marcus were both Lycan Shifters, he could tell that this man was higher than them in strength. Probably came closer to Kelkov in that regards.
How a powerful shifter ended up with Zina’s guild befuddled and amazed him. At the same, he could tell the man was quite simple minded. He was someone used to submitting to a leader and acting under an order much like a soldier.
And he must have submitted to Zina for years, but Daemon feared his wife had never used the man much. But he was proud that she had tasked him to kill Norima Talga should the Night Mage make a wrong move—he would have done the exact same thing.
At last, the man fell on his knees, forehead to the ground. "I, Reed without a surname of the NorthSteed Pack, hereby submit fully to Alpha King Daemon NorthSteed as my alpha and king, to lead and to command me."
"And I shall accept you submission, Reed." Daemon said in response and then rested his eyes on the Night Mage who was brimming with the anger.
Alas, the little witch didn’t think that Zina was capable of sending someone after her life. Didn’t that make the two of them.
But she didn’t dare say anything about it as she trembled under the force of his golden eyes. Instead, she asked meekly, "What have you to command of me, your majesty?"
