Chapter 359: Spoilt Queen (I)
Chapter 359: Spoilt Queen (I)
ZINA
Zina understood the seriousness of her situation when she began to notice the little things. Like how the climate in the west was gloomy and without the usual cold.
It was already winter in the North, but there, all that greeted her was a strange coldness. Like someone familiar and warm was turning its back away from her.
The night of her capture, she was knocked out when she wouldn’t stop screaming, and when she woke up, she was enveloped in a strange scent.
An incense that was unfamiliar and played dirty games with her mind.
Not the strange combination of the smell of pine, mint, and dark wood that Daemon always possessed. Not his warm hugs hugging her from behind. Not his dirty smirk, welcoming her to another day.
No. It was just a hollow bed that echoed an emptiness so vast it touched at her bones. An aching heart that refused to be heal, and a wandering mind that stewed in despair.
But there was a silver lining. Seraph was there waiting for her in that cold, unfamiliar room with her familiar waiting expression.
"Seraph!" She exclaimed and hugged the girl again. She hugged her back.
Zina had been so invested in her exchange with the Red Wolf that she had forgotten herself despite the fact that she had warned herself beforehand to tread carefully.
The man was an expert baiter. He knew just the right words to say to raise her ire, the right places to spook just to dig at her wounds.
So their interaction had ended with Zina screaming at him to get out. And the end result was being knocked out unt a new day arrived.
A new day that was definitely going to go down in the sands of her personal history. She was sure that many things awaited her.
"I am sorry, Theta!" Seraph cried, "I was unable to protect you."
Zina smiled through her own tears. "Silly girl. I should be the one apologizing for not protecting you. I will never send you away again. Never."
It was not the time to make promises in a land where she was powerless. But from the day that this damned game had started, Zina had vowed that even if she succumbed to any other thing, she would never succumb to the caprices of the villains that intended to manipulate her.
Carefully, she had gone over the possible scenarios and ending that would play out, and one stood out prominently—her death.
Indeed, she was willing to sacrifice herself. She wasn’t sure she would resurrect again should she die, but she hoped she would never.
If sacrificing herself meant that the cursed vision of Daemon would never come to pass, then she would gladly hand herself by the noose. But that scissors... had they placed it by her bedside hoping she would do just that?
Zina needed to tread carefully. These people had been in the dark for a long time while she wa always in the light. She could not allow them manipulate her anymore, nor would she allow them hurt Daemon.
But what of your child... her wolf whispered.
Indeed... what of her child. Should she allow a cruel fate meet him or her as well. Were they deserving of it?
She had absolutely no time to be emotional. Having a child was all good and that, it was her dream in fact. But the cruel reality facing her told her that she might not be able to protect herself, talkless of her unborn child.
Daemon must have probably recieved the message from Dawn. The message that should the decisive moment come, Daemon had to kill her.
Zina knew it was cruel of her, but the harm was already done and the die cast. She and Daemon were leaders, caring for themselves and neglecting their people was out of the question.
They could not afford selfishness in any form. And Daemon more so than herself.
"Did you see any woman with white hair that resembles me a lot?" Zina asked Seraph when she could finally find her voice in the fog of choking emotions which she had already done her best to push away.
Seraph sniffled and shook her head. "No, Theta... your majesty I mean. I have hardly seen anyone. They locked me in this room and then said that the one I am to serve will arrive soon."
How cocky of them. They kidnapped Seraph knowing fully well it would have thrown Zina off and lead to Melwyn taking her. They had planned it out so well that Zina was tempted to give them some accolades.
Zina rose from the bed. "From now on don’t bother with the formalities. Just call me Zina."
Seraph’s eyes widened. "I can’t possibly do that. You might have been kidnapped but that doesn’t mean your title is gone!"
"Seraph," Zina pressed forward with the gravest voice she could muster, "you must only call me Zina in this place. You’re like a sister to me and we should have done away with the formalities a long time ago."
Seraph was still evidently disgruntled with the development, but she nodded slowly. "Fine, Zi...Zi...na."
Before Zina could say anything a harsh knock sounded on the door and an angry looking woman entered. "Master Rowan summons you to the dinning hall."
Zina scoffed quietly, approaching the mean woman. "And who is this Master Rowan you speak of? He must be without manners to send a mannerless maid like you to barge into my place rudely."
The woman gasped, looking her up and down, bewildered. "A maid? I am the steward of this place. You might be an esteemed guest but that is not how to speak to me. In fact, you’ve no right to speak at all."
Ah... so the woman was being intentionally rude. Just fine and good. Zina was looking to start her day with a ruckus, and one was just presented before her.
Before the so called steward could see what was coming, Zina backhanded her so hard her face whipped to the side. The woman gasped, looking at her shocked not quite proceeding that she had been slapped.
"Where I come from, the servants and stewards of the castle kneel when talking to me. I am afraid I’ve been so spoilt by my king husband that I am not used to such audaciousness that you act with."
