Chapter 358: What To Do, Your Majesssty?

DAEMON

Control.

Daemon thrived on it. It was what brought order to his world. It was what made his world take on a semblance of superiority.

By controlling every bit of his life, power and influence, Daemon had managed to be unreachable, unavailable, and singleminded. His achievements didn’t come easy... it was years and years of training and adeptness that helped him.

But that night, before his very eyes, he watched the decade long control that he had single handedly build shatter like a wall of card around him.

And it wasn’t getting any better with the passage of time. If anything, the more seconds ticked by announcing his current reality, the more he lost more and more of it.

"To discussss the Luna Queenssssss looming death of course."

So when the woman who said her name for the day was Winter spelled those words, he watched more and more of his control slip to a point where he knew that only madness awaited him at the end of the cursed tunnel that had become his newfound reality.

Daemon dismissed everyone until it was just him and Winter in the throne room. A room he never used because it reminded him of his cowardly father whatever he sat there, hiding behind his incompetence.

But desperate times called for desperate measures. And Daemon couldn’t deny the appeal of his spilling his enemies blood on the white rug in the room.

His first aversion towards the throne room might have been because of his father. But his second aversion was tied to the very distasteful white design of the room.

In order to show that it represented the Arctic Wolf, the designer had taken on a crude sense of humor and made it so blindingly white that the part of Daemon averse to the dark side naturally avoided the room.

The only thing that had been gotten right was the throne. Welded in pure black iron with the head of the Arctic Wolf engraved on the head of the throne, Daemon certainly thought it carried the deadly aura that brewed within him.

Since it seemed most people had forgotten what he was capable of since the days when he fought the war against the arising rogues and led the same, he will now crudely remind them about the terror that he represented.

In this room, anyone who ventured in will feel the darkness of his loss. And maybe, they would be inspired to work harder to find her.

His wife.

"Winter, I suppose your words must be a jab at irony or some literal device you know best. But believe me when I say that you certainly do not wish to throw jokes with me at the moment."

The woman smiled, quite fearlessly, exposing missing teeth with the remainder brown. "Alpha King Daemon NorthSsssteeeed. All power liesssss in your handssss. To kill me and to ssspare me, I’m sure you know the besssst. But my wordssss remain true, I’ve come to discusssss the Luna Queensssss death with you." She hissed with the same self gratifying smile stapled on her lips.

Daemon climbed down the low pavilion that demarcated the throne from the rest of the room, approaching the woman with slow, torturous step. But the woman was far too fearless for her own good.

She remained ever firm.

"Are you cursing the Queen, by wife?" He asked slowly just to make sure that the question sank in and that she wouldn’t allege to misunderstanding him when she eventually reached the underworld.

His claws were already bared, all that remained was for the woman to confirm his question and then he would very well rip her neck off.

"Of coursssse not your majessssty." The woman said still smiling, "I am merely delivering the queeensssss wordssssss to you. Should you punish me for that, then that would truly unfair."

"What?" Daemon asked, retreating his claws slowly. His wolves were high on alert that he could sense whether or not the woman was lying, and currently, it seemed she spoke the truth.

Her heartbeat remained ever steady, the lithe to her voice smooth even with her consistent drawing of her ’s’.

"The lasssst time the Queen vissssited me, she left me some wordsssss."

"What did she say," Daemon asked impatiently. Zina had been cruelly taken away from him. And the last words she had managed to write down was Sybril and the words on her staff.

Daemon understood those messages were important, but that didn’t stave away the resentment that grew in him as he thought that even in her last time in the castle, all that she could think of was a curse that Daemon thought they had rightfully defeated together.

"She said in the case that she issss taken away, I musssst say thesssse words to you word for word." She said, her expression turning serious on cue as she began to recite Zina’s words without a stutter or an unusual draw of the letter ’s’.

"Daemon NorthSteed, my mate and husband. Should I go against the world, how will you protect your people?"

The words were said by Winter, but as far as Daemon was concerned Zina was now the one who stood before him in her regal white attire, hands lapping each other and resting on her stomach with her head raised and firm.

"I will never allow her to go against the world." Daemon gritted the answer, staring straight at the imaginary Zina.

"Alpha King Daemon NorthSteed," Winter continued, her voice still entirely different, "should I your Theta one day represent everything a Theta is not supposed to be, how will you punish me, your majesty?"

"I will never punish her!" Daemon all but screamed, barely containing his wolf, "I shall instead punish the ones who dragged her into this when she was all but a child."

Even then, he still stared at the form of her that seemed to be enshroud in light. It wasn’t real... but Daemon reached out to her as if begging for some sanity in this madness.

But Winter continued, "because I know you’re a wise king, I am sure your answer to these two questions would be that you must protect your people and you must punish me. And the best way to do that if you remember the vision of your death as I revealed to you would be to kill me."

Cold words.

Very cold words.

Words that he never believed she would be capable of saying. But in Winter’s heartbeat, he knew they were true.

His wolf howled and resisted this loss. This harsh loss that had been bestowed upon them.

Then Winter looked up to him her smile back and all seriousness wiped away from her face."What to do, your Majesssty?"

The she looked out of the window. "Winter is already here."
