Chapter 331: Moonless Skies

ZINA

Zina’s unknown fears were confirmed the moment she got her hand on the paper that had words engraved on it with red.

All sounds in her external world were numbed as her heart began to beat in her ears. She couldn’t hear a thing, couldn’t feel a thing save for the cold feel of the piece of paper in her hands.

Furtively, her eyes roamed on the words.

’No one will save you from your cursed fate, Zina. We formed you, named you, and then birthed you. A mere interference from fate in the guise of a wedding and the pretense of a family is hardly enough to break your curse.

’I am sure you have seen me by virtue of your powers. I too, have seen you even long before you knew of me. Now you’re done with your charade of normalcy, I hate to inform you that it is about time you come take your place.

To convey my good intentions to you and convey the full extents of my seriousness, I’ve captured your closest aide and I now write this letter to you in her blood.

If it’s rising above men that you wish for, then you need not be Luna Queen to achieve it. With the power in you, I, Master, and yourself will take over this world by ascending to become a wolf above all wolves.

With all eagerness,

The Red Wolf.

To You; The Abandoned One.

NOTE: Once you make up your mind peacefully, call out to me and I shall naturally answer."

That was just it. The maniac, the Red Wolf, said nothing more than that.

Zina supposed she should be grateful; what that would mean was that they used only less of Seraph’s blood.

That is assuming she was still alive.

Strangely, she was calm. So calm that it confounded her.

She imagined she would be in such titillating rage that she would upturn everything before her sight, and perhaps scream until the castle itself was blown away, but no, she was calm.

Her hands fell to her side and she faced Fionna who had been screaming her name all along and asking if she was okay.

"Where’s the Sighter?" She asked in a low, but clear voice.

Fionna frowned, probably not expecting that to be the first thing she would say.

"Zina you’re so white, are you okay?" Fionna probed, her face scrunched into worry.

Zina supposed if the woman had on such reaction, then she was probably way too white.

Without any emotion, Zina handed the paper to Fionna. "Have this delivered to his majesty. Meanwhile, I must see the Gamma."

Fionna took the horrendous letter and read the content for herself.

"The gods; does this have anything to do with the so called organisation that left you at the GreenLands?"

Zina guessed Fionna knew that much information from interrogating Raven. But on her own part, she was truly curious and eager to meet this Master or whatever he was called.

The same man Zina was sure not only hurt her and her mother, but also hurt Daemon’s mother.

The man that was determined to bring her down.

The man that had the almighty Matriarchy Pack under his thumb.

The man that was raising an Army of Deformed somewhere.

The man that currently dared to take Seraph away from her.

Zina breathed out harshly, trying hard to rein in her thoughts lest they wandered to dark places. She could not afford to think of what the only one girl who had kept her company for years while staying loyal to her was going through in the hands of such an insidious man.

"The Gamma was sent on an errand by his majesty, Zina." Fionna whispered in a hushed voice, "he won’t be back for some time."

Zina sighed. That meant she would have to face Daemon with her questions instead.

"Fine. I shall see his majesty then after the banquet. Narnia, prepare paper and ink for me. I’ve letters of my own to send."

Narnia nodded wide eyed while they entered into Zina’s room. Technically, it was no longer Zina’s room and the servants had a good jump emptying it while moving her things to the Queen’s Quarters. But the thought of doing this in a strange place only made her annoyed.

"Your calmness is scary Zina, are you fine? Is there anything you would like me to do? Anyone I should kill for you?"

Zina smiled at Fionna, knowing it must have taken the woman so much to muster that kind of care when being caring was hardly in her nature.

"Perhaps you could tell me important tid bits of information you got from interrogating Raven," Zina said as she began to write the letters.

One to Sybril, one to the Heralders, and the most important one to the Matriarchy Pack.

The third letter was sealed with both the seal of the Luna Queen and Theta— the latter a seal she still retained by virtue of the fact that she had yet to officially transfer her duties as Theta as required by law.

Ablanch took care of sending the letters through the fastest messenger pigeon the castle could afford.

"Well, the woman was basically rambling," Fionna explained, "she said something along the lines that it was ’time for their Master to take his form and rule the world’."

Master again.

"Is that so?" Zina mused out loud, totally spent out. With her tiredness, her emotions got the best of her, and yet she resisted.

Walking towards her window, she leaned against the sill, savouring the breeze that whipped in.

"Why are you still here? Should you not deliver the letter to Daemon?" Zonal said, her mind somewhere far away.

"Like hell I would leave you for a second. I do not trust that personal of yours either, and I happen to like my head very much, thank you." Fionna droned, "but not to worry, I’ve already communicated to him through the Pack Link. He knows what’s happened."

"Is that so?" Zina squinted at the darkness outside, cocooned by a moonless sky, "then where is he? Why is he not here offering me an explanation? Why is her not here to tell me everything would be fine?"

The words were a harsh whisper in the silence of her room. At the end, it cracked revealing the wound she had tried so horribly to hide.

And yet, her back remained turned to her room and the world while she concentrated on the moonless skies in order to escape the reality that she now face.

A most harsh reality.

So she was startled when hands encircled her waist from behind and hit breath ghosted the skin of her neck.

"I am here, Zina."

And then the dam opened.
