Chapter 332: A Storm To Tame

ZINA

Zina’s shoulders shook violently while her tears streamed endlessly, and yet she didn’t make a single sound.

It was a feat she never thought was conceivably possible. The ability to cry without making a sound.

Daemon hugged her harder until her back was crushed to his chest, leaving them no space at all. And he said nothing as if he knew that she needed all the silence she could afford, but that didn’t stop him from cradling her like an egg.

Seconds turned to minutes, and they stayed still in the silence. When Zina exhausted her tear ducts, she sniffled and then broke the silence.

"I want to be strong. Seraph deserves that I be strong for her." She said just another bout of silent, shoulder racking tears overcame her.

It would seem as though she hadn’t yet exhausted her tear reserve as she had thought.

"I know... I understand," Daemon said, kissing her on the neck, "I’ve people on it. There was strict surveillance throughout the capital, I do not believe the culprit has made it out. Seraph is still likely to be within the North."

Zing sniffled, "But the North is vast Daemon... where do we begin to find her? What if it’s already late? What if she’s dead...?"

The last thought was a breaking point that she couldn’t afford. It would destroy and upend her life. She wished it would never come to it. And she would do anything to make sure it never came to it.

"She will be fine," Daemon said grimly, "do not have such thoughts."

"I can’t afford her death ordinarily, Daemon. Even more so if I am the cause of it. Do you understand what I am saying? How much she means to me? Seraph was there at the beginning. She never left me for once. She served me dutifully both as a subordinate and a friend Daemon. She took me like hers in a world filled with betrayal, and she she never left me. She never abandoned me."

Daemon’s body turned rigid behind. "I know. That is why I will spare nothing to find her. So please, do not do anything foolish. It might sound selfish but yes, I would rather it be anyone else but you."

Zina sniffled, tears pooling at her eyes but refusing to drop. It was hot and uncomfortable. She wanted to say ’If we don’t find her, do not blame me if I do something drastic. It’s me they want after all.’ but she figured that piece of honesty would only spur Daemon’s ever fervent dedication to keep her safe so she didn’t voice them out just yet.

But she meant. She would do anything, absolutely anything for this thing to be undone.

"I’m sorry I argued you with you earlier," Zina said both as an apology and as tactic to get Daemon to drop his guard against her, "I understand you mean well for me and I shouldn’t have taken it from granted."

"I should be the one apologising Zina. No matter how well I mean, I shouldn’t attempt to stifle you."

Zina smiled through her tears, staring at the dark sky. She imagined she bore the saddest smile in the world.

"You said you’ve good news for me? What is it?" Daemon said in a light tone in an attempt to ease the tension.

Too bad—Zina no longer had any intention of revealing news of her pregnancy. It was cruel maybe, it was not right probably, but she would withhold that information for as long as she could until this storm was tamed.

She had her reasons; if she thought Daemon wa protective of her now, she could only envision what her life would be like as the pregnant woman he loved whom he wished to protect.

She couldn’t risk being stifled by him again, because now she had someone to protect and that person was Seraph.

The girl who had been a sister all along to her.

She couldn’t afford to betray her... she couldn’t afford to fail her.

Zina turned to Daemon while his hands encircled her waist anew, his eyes shinning with anticipation.

"My powers," Zina began, "they have greatly improved. Under the tutulege of the Seer from the GreenLands, I see visions more frequently. I believe I can now be an asset you can’t do without."

She sensed him frown a bit, like that wasn’t what he had expected, but then he smiled.

"Seer or not, you’re an asset I cannot dispense with." He teased, pecking her on the lips.

Zina smiled, "I told you not to expect much. You must be disappointed with my good news. But in the face of what we are facing, I believe becoming a greater seer than I already am will be of great help to you and our cause."

"Nonsense, I very much like this news."

He pecked her on the lips again, and then on her neck, then back at her forehead, then her nose, and her lips over again.

"Zina," he said to her, eyes smoldering like a torchlight in the dark. "I know this might not be the right time to say this, but I want to make a family with you."

Her heart stuttered, then stopped altogether.

He tugged her closer, conveying a sincerity with his eyes that almost crippled her. "You will never be alone, Zina. I want to prove that to you and more. With me, we will have a family, and you will know that you’re my fated one and not an abandoned one."

Zina swallowed, then looked up to him. His fated one? She liked the sound of that. A little more than she could ever admit.

It was fate that afterall brought them together. At first, it was under turbulent circumstances that separated them, and then they mate again only to discover they were mates.

Bound by hate but brought by fate, they had no choice but to interact with each other, and then somehwere along the line, love crept in. Ever so slowly but still present.

She wondered if their story was about to come to an end, or if this was just the beginning.

She beamed at him, eyes glass with unshed tears. "Let’s do that. Let’s make a family."
