Chapter 330: Are You Imprisoning Me?!

ZINA

Zina froze on hearing the words. Luckily, no one had been close enough to witness Daemon speaking to her like that, but she was shocked nonetheless.

Shocked that he would ever speak to her like that.

Zina sat down back slowly, staring at Dawmon strangely. The perfect mask of ease he had been wearing along that night had slipped and fallen off. Now, there was a desperate kind of madness etched to his face.

Calming herself down and promising not to raise her voice, she spoke slowly to him. "What is wrong, Daemon? And for goddess’s sake do not lie to me and tell me that everything is fine."

Daemon looked away, unable to meet her eyes for a moment. Then he turned back at her, a strained smile on his face.

"I am sorry I spoke to you like that...." He began to apologize but Zina cut him off harshly.

"The only apology I want from you is an explanation. Tell me what is going on?" She pressed forward, now distressed at the thought that something was happening during her wedding and she was oblivious to it.

Daemon said nothing and that only added to her dread.

"Do not stay silent. I saw when Marcus was whispering furiously at you. I know something is wrong I am no fool so you better speak up or I am leaving this room to seek answers on my own."

Daemon sighed, holding her hands. "Don’t you trust me, Zina? I will make everything fine... just give me sometime."

"I do trust you, but I trust myself to handle whatever you will say to me."

"But I don’t want to say it to you. Just be my wife and allow me to take care of it." He begged, and Zina could see his earnest need to protect her in his eyes.

But disappointment crawled up her chest. The fact that she needed Daemon to shield her from her own problems greatly disappointed.

And yes, she was sure that the issue was her problem. And what gave her that conviction was how evasive Daemon had been while telling her about his interrogation with the Sighter.

Three months ago, the man could have said the same thing to her and gotten away with it without raising her suspicion. But now, Zina had learnt how to pick at his reluctance and evasiveness.

It was hard, but she was damn good at it.

"What did the Sighter say to you?" Zina asked in a grave voice, and all she needed to know that she had pressed at the right spot was the slight flare of his nose at the question. But other than that, he didn’t answer.

Zina made to stand again and walk out of the table but Daemon stylishly tugged her down so it would appear to others like a couple’s play and not a serious exchange.

"Are you imprisoning me?!" Zina whispered harshly, "I am your and Luna Queen you know you cannot do that!"

"I sent Malik Zorch and your guards on an errand. Wait until they come back and then you can leave." Daemon gritted in a hushed voice, obviously wanting to avoid a fight with her.

"I am not stepping out of the place, Daemon. I do not need them." Zina protested, wanting to fight him on that matter.

"You’re not safe even in this castle! Not even in your room!" Daemon hrowled, still trying to keep his voice down, "please Zina, listen to me on this one."

It had become apparent to the people surrounding them that there was something going on even though they couldn’t hear their exchange, but that didn’t stop Zina from saying a stern, "No." at Daemon whose eyes twitched at her defiance.

"Fionna!" Zina called out loud for the woman who had been leaning against the wall, impassively observing the banquet.

Fionna approached their table mechanically. "Your majesty," she answered, staring between Zina and Daemon.

"Surely your own Delta can serve as more than enough protection for me?" Zina gritted at Daemon before she stood up and stormed away from the room much to Daemon’s ire she was sure.

"Easy, Luna Queen Zina NorthSteed." Fionna drawled at her simmering figure, "as much as I hate it, the Alpha King your husband is only protecting you."

"It seems to me you’ve an inkling of what’s going on," Zina huffed incredulously, shocked that even Fionna knew but she was left in the dark.

"Easy your majesty. It was only natural for me to know seeing as I was the one who tortured the woman who had the information yesterday night. What was her name... Raven?"

Zina stilled at that. Raven? The same woman that had attacked her when the Sighter rescued her.

"Raven? I thought she escaped?"

"Well your husband recaptured her of course. Tortured her within an inch of her life for daring to touch his wife. But of course he is not very good at these things so I had to step in with my skills."

Zina huffed, and resumed her journey back to her room. "He didn’t tell me anything," she muttered kicking at an invisible stone.

"That makes sense seeing that Raven was just captured yesterday evening." Fionna said with a shrug.

Zina refused to be led by the logic of her words. She was angry and she was determined that nothing would douse her annoyance with Daemon.

What a wonderful husband he was turning out to be.

"You’re overreacting, your majesty." Fionna drawled. Had she spoken the words aloud.

Zina rolled her eyes just as the came about her room, "Can you stop it with the ’your majesty’, ’Luna Queen’ thing? Thank you."

"If you say so, your majesty." Fionna responded, her eyes glittering mischievously.

Zina scoffed, but before she could open the door to her room, Narnia her maidservant darted out of the room, paper in hand and panting hard.

Fionna reacted so fast, knife in hand and pressed against the poor girl’s neck.

"She’s just my servant!" Zina spoke hurriedly, and Fionna only released the shivering girl after examining that she was without any weapon.

Zina sensed that behind them, they were some guards that Daemon had probably sent. Just why was he so paranoid of her life?

"I was just coming to find you Theta... I mean, your majesty," Narnia spluttered, waving the paper in her grasp like it held some forbidden, terrifying secrets.

The anxiety from before was now fully back, and Zina was sure it had nothing to do with her hormones.

"What is it, Narnia?"

"It’s about Head Maid Seraph. Something bad has happened!"

And then Narnia shoved the paper at Zina who stood still, unable to move.
