ZINA

The celebration banquet of her wedding quickly turned into a chore when Zina quickly realized that avoiding alcohol was harder than she ever thought it would ever be.

No amount of excuse seemed to be good enough and she was almost close to revealing that she couldn’t take any due to her ’condition’.

Thankfully, Daemon was still in blissful ignorance didn’t push the alcohol matter. In fact, he scowled at Fionna who had insisted that Zina can only clink glass with hers if it was filled with alcohol.

Fionna had in turn, snickered before she left while muttering that the new Luna Queen she is to serve is hardly any fun.

However, there was not a bit of respite for Zina to break the news to Daemon who was always engaged in one conversation or another in entertaining their guests who were of no small rank. Zina on her part had met with a total of not less thirty Lunas all from prestigious packs that had already invited her to their respective banquets.

Zina had smiled easily, promising them that she would think about and then get back to them. Figuring that the crowded celebration banquet was no place to break news of her pregnancy, she decided she would do once she and Daemon were in the blisdf confines of their matrimonial chambers, away from prying eyes.

But there was a matter that simply couldn’t wait, and one she had to attend to as soon as possible.

So despite the fact that the Alphas seemed to be climbing each other in a bid to gain audience with Daemon and toss in their congratulations while pitching a potential partnership at the same time, Zina managed to find an opening to ask Daemon the question she had been meaning to ask ever since.

"How did it go with the Sighter?"

While the strange brown eyed man had been present at the ceremony like everything was normal, Zina knew everything was far from fine. There was this perfect mask of normalcy, but she had pretended to not see through it while she smiled her way to the Altar.

But now that her marriage ceremony was over, she was eager to sate her curiousity. Even more so now that she noticed both the Sighter, Yaren and Marcus had conviniently disappeared from the hall.

Daemon smiled easily—way too easily—in response and pecked her on the forehead. "I came to your room last night to tell you everything had been resolved. But you were sleeping so I couldn’t tell you."

"It’s all been resolved?" Zina repeated, quite befuddled.

Just two days ago, Daemon had looked like he truly intended on murdering the Sighter for all that he did. But now, he was all easy going like he had been acting all along and everything was fine.

"He has returned the money, besides, he is from the Screamers Pack and I’ve decided to go easy on him for your sake. He doesn’t seem to have any ulterior motive so that works for me."

Zina smiled, but almost immediately she was unsure whether she should be happen. It almost seemed way too convenient the way Daemon had made it seem like he let go of the Sighter for her sake.

Just yesterday, Zina was sure that Daemon was prepared to rain hell and carnage on the Sighter for daring to threaten him with her life. But now, it was all conveniently forgotten about.

’Don’t be that woman’ she chided herself on witness her thoughts. She shouldn’t be suspicious at a time she had all the reason to be grateful, but she couldn’t shrug off the feeling that something was wrong.

Ever since yesterday, that feeling had been there. The gods, where was Seraph by the way? Was she not yet back?

She felt like her head was splitting, and she suspected it was her ’hormones’ just like Sybril had once pointed out.

So instead of acting like an ungrateful thing, she beamed at Daemon and asked for the final time. "Are you sure everything is good now? You’ve resolved it all?"

Daemon shot her that his signature melting smile that went straight to her heart. "Of course, my wife. It’s all done. I will give you the details later."

Zina smiled even broader, "I also have good news for you," she said fiddling with her fingers while she stuffed away all her strange unrest at a dark corner of her mind.

Daemon’s eyes widened in exaggerated surprise. "You’ve a gift for me?"

Zina smacked him playfully, "Not a gift. Just a news."

"It all sounds the same to me," he said, then kissed her fingers.

The Luna of GreenVille Pack if she remembered correctly approached Zina, picking up the wine on her and Daemon’s table.

"Might I pour you a drink Luna Queen to celebrate this beautiful day?" The young woman said.

Zina beamed, not bothering with an excuse while the Luna poured her a drink. She made a show of gulping the wine before she put it down.

The Luna didn’t notice, otherwise, it would have been termed a great show of disrespect on Zina’s part. Desperate from an escape from the whole werewolf-alcohol addiction affair, she made to stand and leave the room.

But Daemon dragged her down to her seat before she could even excuse herself.

Zina looked at him slightly shocked. "I just want to get some fresh air," she said while Daemon entangled his finger with hers, clearly not ready to let go off her.

He smiled easily, "If you do so, then I will miss you terribly."

Zina frowned. On the outside it looked like an endearment, but Zina had been feeling since the beginning of the banquet that Daemon wasn’t ready to let her go.

Sure it was just her ’hormones’ messing with her head, she detangled her fingers from his when he wasn’t concentrating and tried to leave again. But before she could take a step out, Daemon’s voice, the coldest she had ever heard it crawled to her.

"I said you cannot go anywhere!"
