Chapter 328: Husband And Wife

"Just a vengeful spirit?" Zina said, quirking an eyebrow at him while her fingers tightened against the single with rose she had forgotten she had been holding all along.

Daemon raised an eye at her, holding out his hand to support her climb the dais of the altar. "My love, is there something else you would rather I turn into?"

Zina gave him her hand, but she lost her step and fell into his body instead. She had a feeling that was a plan on his part, but that hardly bothered her.

Now at close proximity, Daemon used the opportunity to hug her discreetly, seemingly oblivious to the gossipy eyes of their guests and the uncomfortable throat-clearing of the Eldermen standing just behind him.

"I was thinking you would be reborn into the body of a grown up, or better your spirit transmigrates, that way you can find me and we will continue our love story from where it stopped," Zina whispered low enough that only her could hear it even as they smiled at each other like teens senselessly in love.

"I never pegged you for someone who reads those untoward fantasy novels that are peppered allover the capital," Daemon retorted with a playful grin, "However do not worry as I do not plan on dying anytime soon."

He righted her on her feet, and Zina took her place directly opposite him as custom demanded.

The three recluse Eldermen cleared their throats, "Can we now begin, your majesty?" The only woman amongst them asked.

"If you wish Second Eldermen."

Zina suspected that the Second Eldermen scoffed at that, but otherwise the woman maintained her pristine smile as she began to preside over their union.

"Today, we have all come to witness the union of His Royal Majesty, King Daemon NorthSteed, Alpha King of the North and Theta Zina WolfKnight, the Theta of the NorthSteed Pack that rules over the Arctic North." The woman finished without much flair like the Herald that announced Zina’s presence.

"As tradition demands, this is the time where anyone who wishes to object to this union can come forward." The First Eldermen said in a scratchy voice.

That was when Daemon looked at the guests for the first time, a scowl etched to his face as though he was daring anyone to dare delay the ceremony anymore than it should be delayed.

Of course, no one stepped forward, and Zina took the opportunity to observe that Fionna and others had already assumed their duty going by their presence at the first pew in the hall.

"Since no one objects to this union, we shall now proceed to the first ritual of the day where we will initiate Zina WolfKnight as a true member of the NorthSteed Pack."

Zina waited with bated breath as a servant brought a basin of water for her to wash her hand with. She did as was expected and the bowl was taken from her after that.

"This washing of hand signifies you shedding your old Pack and embracing a new one," the Third Eldermen billowed in a thunderous voice.

Zina had long done that technically, but due to the circumstances surrounding her assumption of the role of Theta, she was never officially recognized as a member of the NorthSteed by virtue of the fact that she had not gone through the ceremony.

Eldric hadn’t wanted that either, so she had remained a stranger to the pack she supposedly served.

A towel was given to her and she cleaned her hand.

"Cleaning your hand off the wetness signifies that you have now left all old things and are now willing to embrace new things."

The towel was taken from her, and she set her eyes anew on Daemon who had been sending silent support through his eyes.

A ring bearer stepped forward, and the official vow taking began with the Second Eldermen presiding over it in her no nonsense voice.

This was one of the rare times when the Eldermen ever left the Temple, so Zina was confident that most of their guests yearned to see the trio just as much as they yearned to witness the ceremony itself.

"Do you Zina WolfKnight, solemnly swear on your honor before the moon goddess that you will take Alpha King Daemon NorthSteed as your partner for life...."

"I do," Zina responded, not taking her eyes off Daemon for once.

"To walk the hard, stony path of rule with him..."

"I do,"

"To understand the burden of the crown and consequence of wearing it..."

"I do,"

"To take on the role of Queen and see the Arctic North as your own land..."

"I do,"

"To take on the role of Luna and see the NorthSteed Pack as your own family...."

"I do,"

"And to become his wife in all ramifications called for..."

"I do,"

"I now proclaim before all witnesses that Zina WolfKnight understands the bond of eternal partnership she undertakes today, and has accepted same."

This time, the Third Eldermen stepped forward.

"Do you Alpha King Daemon NorthSteed solemnly swear on your honor before the moon goddess that you will take Zina WolfKnight as your partner for life..."

Daemon smiled, and deliciously he answered, "I do."

Zina could swear her own response had been normal, but Daemon’s managed to shoot straight to her core.

She could barely hear what the Eldermen was saying... no, all her attention was in Daemon who said ’I do’ like he wished to rip off all her clothes one by one.

So immersed in him, she didn’t notice that he had finished taking his vows until the First Eldermen stepped forward and proclaimed,

"I now proclaim you Husband and Wife, King and Queen, Alpha and Luna as has been ordained by the moon goddess. You may now...."

He barely finshed before Daemon tugged her against his body, and then slammed his lips against hers into a dizzying kiss that stole her senses.

Zina abandoned all caution as she allowed herself to drown in his taste and love. She was numb to the loud cheers behind them as she focused on just the feel of his lips against hers.

Probing, flicking, tasting.

So this was it felt like to have a family... to not be an abandoned one.

It felt so good.

PS: Title reveal for next volume :) I’ve been debating between three titles, having followed this book from the beginning perhaps you could help me out as this would be the final volume.

Between ’The Fated One’, ’The Awakened One’ and ’The Ascended One’ which do you prefer? I think I’ve my answer based on the intended plot of Volume 4 but I will still love to hear your thoughts ;)
