Chapter 300: No Vision Is Terrifying
ZINA
Daemon’s promise of no mercy should he find the masked man had Zina notably anxious.
She had butted heads with Daemon many times in her life, but that was the first time that she had felt the seriousness of his promise to destroy the masked man should he find him.
Somehow, he had successfully made her objections and plea that the masked man might be related to her past and the mystery of her origins seem like a childish excuse. And maybe they were but Zina still felt like she was onto something with the masked man.
She could feel it deep in her bones that they’re was something that she was missing out on totally. Something that she couldn’t quite put her fingers in that had everything to do with the masked man.
Something she should certainly be privy to.
So that was how she found herself making her way to the Temple in the middle of the night that was charged with tension. The atmosphere, as if feeling the heat of the intense competition that was happening, was chilly and fraught with danger.
"You’re here again, Theta." Sybril greeted and welcomed her the moment she alighted from her carriage.
"Is Moon around?" Zina asked as they made their way into the Temple that was warm unlike the cold air outside.
The warmness enveloped her, reminding her of the warm embrace of Daemon she had been trapped in the night before.
She longed to return to such warm embrace, but first, she knew that she had to sort out some certain things on her own.
"The old woman is around if she is the one you’re asking about, although I must warn you that she had changed her name tonight."
Zina smiled at the tension that was tinged to Sybril’s voice. If she didn’t know the woman any better then she would have thought that she was perhaps angry with the old seer.
"What is her name for today?" Zina asked, finding it peculiar that the old seer found the need to change her name with the coming of each day.
"She said for today, her name is Dawn."
"Dawn... What a beautiful name." She mused, wondering what could be the particular motivation for the very peculiar name.
Zina made her way to the opaque shrine which had become the temporary abode of the Seer.
"Greetingssss Theta," the woman greeted in the same fashion just as Zina entered the room.
Sybril, probably sensing that she needed privacy with the old woman, left them to their thing but not before she told Zina she was available should she need anything.
Zina shot the other woman a grateful smile before she took a seat across Dawn.
"I hear your name is Dawn for today," Zina started observing the old woman who seemed to be staring into space.
"Don’t you think dawn isss a very beautiful thing?" The woman mused, still not taking her eyes off space, "I think dawn issss a beautiful thing. When dawn comessss, everything old becomessss new... everything fallen hasss a chance to rissse once again... and everything uselesssss have a chance to become useful again."
Zina smiled, "I think dawn is beautiful as well."
"What do you think the coming dawn would bring, Theta?"
"Well I for one think that by dawn today, we will have the final contestants and the combat will begin."
Dawn smiled, her eyes resting on Zina squarely. "No, I ask what tthissss dawn will mean for you? You’ve sought me out and yet I can’t help but to keep seeing the worriessss that you’ve brought with you."
"There’s a man that I worry about...." Zina trailed, unsure how to broach the subject.
"Do not worry about thingsss you should not worry about, Theta. When the time comessss, they would naturally fall into place." She answered as if she knew of the exact thing that bothered Zina.
It was a thing of wonder, truly. How that answer was almost sufficient to stop Zina’s wandering mind from going on a voyage of discovery.
"That night I left you, I touched someone and I saw a terrifying vision." Zina said instead, abandoning all thoughts about the masked man and facing the far greater part of her worries.
Worry for Daemon, and fear for her true identity whatever it is.
"No vissssion is terrifying, Thetttta. The only terrifying thing is the Sssseer."
Zina stilled, while the woman’s turbulent eyes held hers captive.
"So you’re not scared of the visions that you see?" Zina asked tentatively, almost carefully.
The woman smiled, exposing her missing teeth. "I told you... I am a fortune teller, Thetttta. You are the Sssseeeer. But if you must know, then I shall tell you... if you were bold enough to ssssee, then it musssst be that you’re bold enough to conquer the nightmare of it."
Zina’s breath hitched in her throat as the vision of Daemon’s death flashed through her mind.
No vision is terrifying. Was that really true?
"Since you saw a vissssion immediately after ttthe Kadir ritual, then perhapssss you’re ready to see my deattth as you’ve promissssed me?" Dawn said, changing the subject.
She stretched her arm out to Zina as if probing her to make a display of her abilities.
Zina was almost tempted... tempted to see how far deep she could dive in with this terrifying power of hers. But she held back.
"You’re yet to teach me all I need to know... it’s far too early to ask me to see a vision of your death."
Dawn grinned, retreating her arm. "Fine, what does the Thetttta wish me to teach her tonight."
Zina remembered the red haired werewolf from her vision. The fact that she stood tall besides such a disgusting man was revolting enough that she felt the need to do something so rebellious. She yearned to do something that would convince herself that there was no way on earth that she would stand by such a man.
Daemon was the only man she would ever stand by.
"You say a seer is the most terrifying thing and not her vision. In that case, I believe there’s a way to track down someone who is connected to me by one such vision?"
Dawn’s response was a full grin.
"It sseeems like dawn today will come with a far posssitive change than we have ever anticipattted, Thettta."
Indeed, there was no better way that Zina could think of proving her visions wrong than by catching the ever elusive Red Haired werewolf for Daemon.
