The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 276: A Masked Helper

Chapter 276: A Masked Helper

ZINA

Just as the arrow was released, Shadow, like a bolt of lightning, quickly positioned his bloody, bleeding self in front of Zina to block the arrow again.

But the arrow never made it to them. A small glinting knife, flying from nowhere, knocked the arrow of course until the arrow head slammed and embedded itself against a cluster of rocks, consequently shattering the rocks.

The knife, as if under some truly stunning control, flew back to its weirder, and everyone’s eyes watched as a masked figure easily caught the knife, twirling it expertly with his fingers.

Zina barely had the time to process it before the masked figure was barrelling towards Raven at lightning speed, his silver knife a blur of blinding light. It was like watching a tsunami, unstoppable and unrelenting, as the masked figure bore down on Raven. The air seemed to ripple with the force of his approach, and Zina felt her breath catch in her throat as she watched, transfixed.

Even though there was no particular distinguishing feature of the figure save for the fact that the person seemed to be lean muscled and possessed an adeptness and an agility that only werewolves who have trained for years could possess, Zina thought the man seemed strikingly familiar.

She was almost sure she had seen him somewhere, but for the life of her in the middle of the commotion, she couldn’t place him yet. But there was this suffocating familiarity that lingered with the slam of the masked figure’s knife against Raven’s bow that was a weapon in itself.

The woman was pushed back by the impact although she managed to block the menacing blade with her bow that Zina once thought was made of wood but suddenly didn’t seem to be made from an ordinary material in itself.

Not when said bow just managed to parry a blow that easily shattered a cluster of rocks like it was passing through air.

Raven, her eyes flashing with determination that only made her scar stand out even more, stood her ground, wielding her bow like a sword. The masked figure carelessly closed in like a panther on the prowl, his knife a blur of motion, striking with precision and deadliness.

He didn’t move like a hunter though... no, hunters preferred to stalk their prey but this man didn’t seem to possess any such patience. Instead, he moved like... an assassin.

The kind that was trained from birth.

The kind that lived and breathed for the next quick kill.

"Theta do you know this man?!" Shadow screamed the question above the noisy commotion that was enclosing in on them. So enraptured was she by the fight between the masked man and Raven that she had forgotten that they themselves were also in the middle of one such fire.

"I... I do not know him." Zina answered because that was as simple as the truth she could muster. Even though the man felt familiar, it was still a stretch to admit that she knew him which she did not as far as her memory was concerned.

Zina slammed her stick in the groin of a man that was quickly coming for her from the sides, and Shadow picked the man, flinging him away as easily as one would do a piece of rock.

That was how it had always been. Zina would first temporarily incapacitate her opponents, and then Shadow would finish them off as easily as an elephant squashing ants.

Except their opponents were hardly finished off. Quickly, Zina and her company had realized that simply wouldning them wasn’t enough. No matter how big or deep the wound, their opponents would rise, acting as though they had merely been scratched.

Zina thought that they possessed a crazy healing ability that she wasn’t aware of, but seeing as the gash of their wound was still present, she realized that something far more sinister was at play.

Remembering that Raven had so carelessly talked of the fact that Zina died and resurrected, she could imagine that the woman knew more about that part of her than even she herself could comprehend. So Zina couldn’t help but think if this ’new master’ of hers was the same person that made her possess such an unusual ability, and perhaps, if the said master also gave their killers an ability for infinite strength.

"They’re on something," Commander Brad growled, while he, Ablanch, and Shadow formed a protective circle around her while baiting their enemies.

"I would think that much is obvious." Zina spoke, eyeing the men and their wounds.

Killing them was the only solution, and in their current situation, that would mostly involve ripping out their hearts, or slitting their throats.

"We might have to shift at this rate," Ablanch spoke, spitting blood, "besides what is that woman on? What does she mean by confirming whether you would resurrect if you died?!"

His words were a mix of anger and indignation although Zina didn’t bother to answer him. Instead, she observed the two other men, noting they hardly reacted to the question which could only mean that they were very much aware of the circumstances of the events that led to her finally leaving the GreenLands for the Arctic North alive.

It wasn’t surprising, afterall one of them was Daemon’s most trusted aide and family, and the other was a commander and subordinate to said trusted aide and family.

Shadow tore off a piece of his cloth, wrapping it against his bleeding fist that had taken an arrow for her. Zina followed his line of sight that was on the masked figure and Raven who were still fighting so intensely. At least, to Zina’s pleasure, the woman had lost all cockiness that she once possessed before.

Now, her face was unsmiling, her scar more evident, and her stance rigid as she parried the incessant blows of the masked man. The man was no defender, no he was the ultimate attacker, rushing headlong into danger because he was so confident in his evident combat skills that he could hold his ground.

His agility and the manner he was quick on his feet made it seem as though he was dancing and not fighting. And Zina was spellbound by the way that he moved effortlessly and the way he manipulated his glinting small knife expertly.

"Whoever he is, at least he’s buying time for us," Shadow grunted, tying the cloth perfectly around his fists. His eyes shifted, and the darkness in them reminded Zina of Daemon’s eyes.

"Now, we fight to kill!" He commanded their remaining comrades that were still on their feet. "Protect the Theta even if it would cost your lives!"

"Yes Sir!!!" Came the booming response while commotion descended anew upon them.

Zina in turn gripped her stick harder, wishing that she could do more than just flogging her opponents but glad at the same time that she was far from useless in their situation.

The masked man even though he was fighting off Raven had his eyes on Zina at the same time like he would come rushing forward at any time should the people around her prove to be incapable of protecting her. And after a long drawn out fight until they were on the last threads of their strength, the backup they had all been waiting for arrived with a most unusual person....

...Brestom IceSavage.
