Chapter 140: Freya Fergus

Chapter 140: Freya Fergus

The character in this Chapter first appeared in Chapter 88: The Red Wolf (For reference purpose)

ZINA

Zina was sprawled on the floor of the reception, panting hard when she came to. The receptor was long gone and the area looked remarkably empty save for grey eyes that stared down at her.

Zina stood abruptly, anger filling her as she glared at the woman with eyes made of venom.

"How dare YOU?!" She screamed, uncaring for whoever would hear her. For once, she didn’t care if her put together mask was ripped away. She wanted to rip the Grand Healer one regardless of their status.

"Don’t you have a fiery wolf in you." The woman tsked, "I almost didn’t recognize you anymore."

It was then that Zina noticed her eyes were probably glowing if the mild blue light that reflected back in the woman’s grey eyes was anything to go by. Along the way, her claws were bared and she quickly retreated them, more shocked at the almost half-shift than the weight of her scorching anger.

Zina room deep breaths, praying that she calmed down. The Grand Healer was simply trying to trigger her. The woman was still bitter and angry after all those years because according to her, Zina had been responsible for the unspoken massacre that happened five years ago on a moonless night.

The night Eldric had taken too much away from Zina till the point that all she yearned for was to forget the grace wrong and humiliation that she had suffered that night.

And she did forget. Not only did she forget, she had lived on well like that night didn’t happen and like the scars no longer existed.

But now as she was faced before the Grand Healer, those memories she had thought forgotten flowed in like the floodgates of hell had been opened.

The visceral image of her body slashed beyond recognition and her wrist slit open while death stared back at her. The night when she had experienced what it truly felt to have her bones and flesh mended as if they were being ground like a beef.

The night when she had truly understood what Theta Amelia had meant when she said she must be truly heartless.

The night when she had truly hardened her heart.

And it had only taken one suicide attempt on her side, and an attempt to take her life on the side of Eldric.

The woman gripped her by the shoulders and shook her vigorously. "Even if the dead forgot, you should have taken revenge on your behalf and the behalf of the two poor souls that had to die for you that night!"

The scream echoed off the walls of the rooms, and Zina simply stared blankly at the woman, her anger no longer scorching hot but ice cold.

She pushed the woman away harshly, hating her for more than one reason.

First, she hated the woman for reminding her of the ugly demons she had buried.

Second, she hated her for confronting her on her shame; which was the fact that Zina was yet to confront Eldric on their seven years turbulent relationship of Theta and Alpha King.

She was a coward, so what? She loved to call it her heartlessness if anything.

"Where is the woman’s dwelling?" Zina asked coldly, having mustered the strength amidst the wild thunderings of her heart that was no longer so loud again as it had initially been.

The woman glared back at her with eyes filled with equal hate. Then she posted her fingers to a dark corridor, and Zina stormed off for it without another word.

Down at the corridor, two Epsilons were guarding the doors of one of the many private wards and Zina knew that she had finally found who she had been looking for that afternoon.

Without a word, the Epsilons allowed her entrance and Zina stepped into the room that smelled viscerally of blood, incense, and cleansers.

A woman was sprawled on the bed in a clean white cloth that was draped against her and Zina approached cautiously just as she watched the woman stir.

"What is your name?" She asked the moment she drew nearer to the woman who hadn’t attempted to raise her head and acknowledge her even though Zina was sure that she was very much awake.

All the response Zina got from her was her silence that engulfed the room like a stiff king thing. Zina’s eyes casually swept through the room, noting that every amenity fit for a privileged woman had been made provision for.

"So you won’t answer?" Zina said coldly as her eyes caught a cloak she was sure belonged to Daemon. Said cloak was tossed carelessly by the woman’s side. Like she had been sleeping with it but it had slipped when she tossed over.

Jealousy flared in her chest, but Zina pushed it away. That was not the reason she was there—at least not the entire reason. Her pettiness had to take the back seat for the moment.

When the woman still didn’t say anything, Zina coldly said. "Will you keep pretending to sleep? Or perhaps should I pour hot water on you and taste just how deep asleep your are?"

The woman’s body visibly stiffened, and Zina was way too pissed off by her earlier encounter with the Grand Healer to feel any satisfaction over the fact that she had nailed the mark.

The woman finally stirred, rousing from her pretend sleep exposing features so beautiful it could bring down nations to their knees. The force of her appearance disarmed Zina as she simply stared at the woman.

Raven hair that hung all the way to her waist, eyes that were black like the stars, and features that were as exquisite as that of a high born werewolf.

The woman smiled weakly, pretending to have been just roused from her sleep. She squinted at Zina, and then her huge annoyingly beautiful eyes widened.

"White hair and white dress. I have heard about you... you must be the Theta of the NorthSteed Pack."

The woman immediately stood up from the bed in a show to bow to Zina but then she staggered like she was so sick she couldn’t hold her feet.

Zina’s eyes distastefully swept through the woman, noting her bandaged wrists.

Had she been attacked by another? Or had she caused harm to herself?

"How have you come to find me?" The woman asked while acting as if she was out of breath. "Oh... Daemon must have told you."

Zina scoffed as it didn’t escape her how the woman had intentionally addressed Daemon by his name. To perhaps warn Zina of her claim on him.

Zina leaned down, bringing her height to that of the woman that was panting hard like she was so sick the world might end from just that fact.

"Perhaps it’s time we stopped pretending...Freya Fergus?"

The woman’s wide innocent eyes blinked in confusion. And when it reopened next, whatever innocence that was once in them was gone as she donned on a mask that was different from her former pretending self.

The woman’s eyes now dripped of so much confidence and smugness it pissed Zina off just as she said in a demeaning voice, "Well it is nice to meet you Zina WolfKnight."
