DAEMON

Daemon smirked although he didn’t find anything funny. "Ahhh, so you know about your damned origins? And yet when you were little you didn’t hesitate to call out on our father’s bastards. Even when you yourself was even something worse."

Eldric’s eyes oozed venom. "One such bastard stands behind you." He spat out like a curse, causing Daemon to narrow his eyes hidden beneath the locks of hair that were carelessly dropping to his forehead.

Daemon stood straighter, stepped back and delivered a hard kick to Eldric’s head, and watched impassively as it whipped to the side. There was so much he could take, and unfortunately, that didn’t include anyone talking shit about Yaren.

Eldric spat blood while Daemon adjusted the cuff of his dress shirt. "You were saying?" He dared Eldric, not looking at the chained man for once. His demeanor dared Eldric to say something that would cause Daemon to show him just why he was known as Ripper. While he was averse to violence, he didn’t have any qualms at unleashing it during the right time.

"You have always loved Yaren more than you ever did me." Eldric spoke in a low voice that caused Daemon to halt midway of adjusting his cuff.

"What?"

Eldric laughed like a deranged man. "You’ve always cared about him more than you did me. Was it because you’ve always known that I was the bigger evil? That while Yaren at least shared our father’s blood, I shared none? Have you always known?!" He finished with a roar, causing Daemon to chuckle darkly.

Leave it to the man to make it about himself at the dying moment.

"Have I always known that you were Moorim’s spawn?" Daemon repeated the question, leaning down again until their heights were equal. "Mmm... let me think. There was the fact that you always had a huge chip on your shoulders. Your glaring psychopathic tendencies. Oh, and there was your inferiority complex that only grew bigger even with the title of Alpha King."

Eldric glared, so much that if Daemon was oil, he would have turned to flames under the weight of his withering stare. Fortunately for the both of them, Daemon was no oil, and never had he been one to be scared of scares—withering ones or not.

"Whether or not I’ve always known that you were Moorim’s spawn doesn’t make that much difference to me. It doesn’t change who you’ve always been. Oh, how I wish I could say it was just your greed... or perhaps a gnawing need to be recognised in a world blind to your dim light? But no, Eldric StormWalker, you did what you did simply for the fun of doing it."

Perhaps it was calling the man by Moorim’s surname that finally snapped him. He tugged at the chains that held him captive, baring his claws and canines at him. The silver burned the more he tried to shift, and the putrid smoke hung in the air as the element all but sucked at his essence.

But Eldric was foolish... had always never known when to stop, so he continued his futile, comical attempt at reaching Daemon.

"I am a NORTHSTEED!"

"Scream it enough and it might just become reality, StormWalker." Daemon taunted him, honestly not finding any enjoyment at watching Eldric melt before him in a puddle of his delusion. "However for your sake and my sake, I hope you will also scream the whereabouts of the ten million Grams of gold that you and your little lover stowed away. If not, I will lock both of you up together and have so much fun seeing who will be the first to devour the other when a hunger like no other grips the both of you."

More glare.

"And who knows, I might just add your father into the mix just for the fun of it. I’ve always heard a threesome always had you going."

Daemon stood up, producing a handkerchief and wiping his hands free of whatever particles of Eldric’s melting flesh that might have gotten on him. Eldric’s reason had finally come back from the long journey it made, and he was no longer attempting to shift anymore. Instead, his shoulders were slumped in defeat, his head bowed as if he could not process everything that had happened.

"How did this happen?" He muttered in a pathetic voice. "I possess the Arctic Wolf, I am the Alpha King. I made plans against you... so how did I end up like this?"

Daemon was already at the cell doors when his dreary questions floated to him. He scoffed, resting his eyes back on him.

"Ever since you were a child, you’ve clung to me like an eyesore. Are you telling me that you still know nothing about me after living with me for twenty years? Or perhaps, you were so busy overestimating your little mind that you forgot who I am?"

Pulling Eldric down had been too easy in Daemon’s books. Way too easy in fact and it all centered at the Arctic Wolf the man possessed. All Daemon had to do was read a little bit on the level of shifters, and then consult the Temple in the East that were all too eager to break it down to Daemon that a stolen Supreme Wolf had a far shorter life span than a rightfully acquired wolf.

"Your wolf has been fighting you, has it not?" Daemon proffered seeing the web of confusion that was tightening its veiny strands on the man.

Eldric raised his head, his eyes widening from surprise at how Daemon had come about a knowledge he probably thought was his secret.

"How do you know?"

Daemon smiled coyly. "Nar’kal velith zun." He answered in their ancient language, knowing fully well that Eldric would never understand what it meant. Poor man had probably never thought that to successfully become Alpha, learning Ancient Vraga Language was important.

Stolen things wilt easily.

"Keep interrogating him on the whereabouts of the money." Daemon instructed Yaren.

Yaren nodded grimly, following him out of the cell. "Marcus has sent word. They would be arriving in the North in six days. Shadow will be staying behind with the DireWolf Pack as your representative."

Daemon nodded, thinking about all the work he needed to do. He was not too happy with his current situation. The kingdom he had collected back from Eldric was a hot grainy mess possessing a faulty foundation at that.

"Do you want to see Lykom Lupus?" Yaren asked.

Daemon shot him a stare that said ’why on earth would he want to see the man in question?’

"Just leave the man to Marcus." He finally said as they exited the cell holdings. His wolf visibly relaxed at the sudden lack of heavy doses of silver. "I hear he is even more psychotic than I ever thought."

"Psychotic is putting it lightly." Yaren snarled.

Daemon turned to the man, halting their strides. He clutched his brother on the shoulders. "You should rest." He said intentionally, knowing that was comical seeing as he himself had not slept in over a week.

He wouldn’t lie though the stress was already weighing on his shoulders.

Yaren simply flexed his biceps. "I would say that to you too, brother. But you would of course not listen to me."

Daemon chuckled.

"The Theta is at the Temple." Yaren announced abruptly as Daemon was about to go his own way. "I know you’re about to go see her, so I might as well save you the stress."

More stunned at the fact that Zina WolfKnight had been moved from the Castle without his knowledge was the fact that Yaren of all people was saying those words to him. He turned to look at his brother, wondering if he had a change of heart.

"I am still not in support of this, brother."

And with that, they parted their ways at that corridor with Daemon prowling for the Temple.
