DAEMON
On reaching the Temple, Daemon was directed to what was termed the Moon Shrine by a werewolf who wouldn’t stop trembling and gawking at him at the same time. But his journey was hardly at an end even in reaching the shrine, for before he could take a step inside the rowdy room, a spiked silver spear darted out, blocking his way.
The young Temple Warrior that he had seen in Zina WolfKnight’s previous envoy was the person responsible, and said man’s features were set grimly as if eager to pick a fight with Daemon.
"I apologize, Alpha King. But I cannot allow you entrance." The Temple Warrior announced grimly, eyes set with determination and voice unwavering.
Daemon would have found his bravado admirable if he was sleeping on his bed when the scene before him unfolded. Instead, coupled with his lack of rest, he felt very irritated.
The smell of herbs drifted towards him, and then the smell of blood coupled with pus. It all told Daemon that he had been right when he had thought that Yaren was under-reporting the Theta’s condition. It would seem as though the wound had not healed at all.
"And why is that?" Daemon growled, knowing that he could easily fling the man who was just a what? Lumpari shifter.
Before the Temple Warrior could utter a response, an older woman bearing a staff in her hands walked to them. Her gray hair was tied into a neat bun and she was wearing a gray dress that immediately told Daemon she was a Temple official.
She smiled broadly, exposing very white teeth and then bowed. "Greetings Alpha King Daemon. I must apologize for this little inconvenience." She said, although she hardly sounded apologetic... but not antagonistic either.
"And you’re?" Daemon inquired with a raised eyebrow. Normally, he wouldn’t give two shits about the woman. But something about her bearing told him that she was someone far more important than she posed herself to be.
The woman smiled again, the smile shining in iris and crinkling the side of her eyes. "I am Elderwoman Sybril of the Temple. I also happen to have the honor of being Theta Zina WolfKnight’s Temple Guardian."
Daemon said nothing, his eyes intentionally roaming between the woman and the young man.
"Forgive the manners." The woman added, as if interpreting Daemon’s silence. "This is Temple Warrior Ablanch Druin who guards the Theta. In view of her considerable wounds, security has been tightened at the Moon Shrine hence his behavior just now."
Daemon raised an eyebrow at that. For a place so chanted as having heightened security, over ten healers weee inside, scrambling about their wits on how to save the incorruptible Theta.
"Do you also stand guard against me, her Alpha King and her mate?" Daemon intoned sarcastically, his withering stare on the warrior. Much as he appreciated the chivalry, now was not the time for anyone to block him.
The Elderwoman stepped away, gesturing a hand inside. "Please come in, Alpha King."
Something about the way the woman kept repeating that title incessantly despite the fact that an official coronation had not been held told Daemon it could be one of two things.
And neither of the options appealed to him in the least.
"How has the Theta’s treatment been so far?" He asked nonchalantly, observing that the room was a tasteful decoration of its own.
The place was on the ground floor, and it had a stream and waterfall all connected inside it. He highly doubted if the small waterfall was natural, but the stream flowed through the ground in a way that was both calming and chaotic at the same time if it made any sense. He couldn’t imagine living in such a place. Just having to walk on water everyday seemed pretty annoying.
"We fear that whatever may have attacked the Theta has poison in its claws. Her wound refuses to close on its own, we have tried every detoxicants, but nothing is working. Her wound seems to be growing even worse."
The sprawled body of Zina WolfKnight finally came into view. She was laid on a makeshift bed, and hovering over her were two healers that were applying a greenish salve to the wound on her naked back. Every other part of her body was covered, but just the dip at her lower back had Daemon’s wandering eyes thinking about what more lay beneath her clothes.
Scoffing internally as he chased away the rabid thoughts, he promised himself he would get some sleep that night, even if it meant knocking himself out.
"So nothing has worked yet?" Daemon quizzed, observing the wound.
"No. We are currently trying a folk recipe."
"Besides the festering wound, are there any more symptoms?"
The Elderwoman hesitated. "She has a fever, and she is delirious at times." She finally answered. Turning to face Daemon, she continued in the same warm voice. "I was hoping you will be able to do something about it since you’re her fated mate and you share the bond."
Daemon raised an eyebrow, observing that the Elderwoman seemed genuinely worried about the woman that was sprawled on the makeshift bed. "And what could I possibly do for the incorruptible Theta?"
The Elderwoman hesitated again. "You could forcefully make her shift and we can try healing her in wolf form."
Daemon chuckled. "I am afraid that is not something a fated mate can do."
"But it is something a Supreme Shifter can do." The Elderwoman countered quickly as if she had been expecting Daemon’s response. "Especially a Supreme Shifter who has acquired a Supreme Wolf as a First Wolf."
Daemon smirked. The Elderwoman was not far off with her assertions. Unlike Eldric who could be considered an ’inheritor or stealer wolf’ however the perspective it was put into, Daemon’s DireWolf was novel and no one had passed it directly to him.
Of course, it could be said the wolf belonged to the line of the DireWolf Pack and their ancestors, but Daemon had simply evolved into acquiring the wolf after defeating the people that contended for the position of his uncle.
"And why should I do that?" Daemon asked because he was genuinely curious to hear the Elderwoman’s answer. He wanted to know the basis of her justification. What strongly made her think that he would help the woman who had by all accounts framed him.
The woman smiled, and it reached her eyes again. "Because she is your Theta and mate."
