The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 102: Hello, Brother

Chapter 102: Hello, Brother

DAEMON

It has been approximately two days and sixteen hours since the Afternoon Lunar Eclipse that had lasted for a whole day and night, and since Daemon had returned to the Arctic North. And just as he had expected, the real work had begun.

Going through barrage of documents that Eldric had all but treated like they were thrash while he was in bed with his lovers, facing the Five High Ranked that would stop at nothing to prove to Daemon that they were a power of their own, and generally dealing with more and more mess that seemed to pile with each passing day.

News of his eventful takeover in the North had spread to the ears of all that wished to hear about it. Everyone now knew that Daemon NorthSteed was the new Alpha of the DireWolf Pack of the South, and the new Alpha King of the North. A move that was truly unprecedented.

Many had taken to calling him the reincarnation of the Great Beast Wolf; a feat which was the credit of one certain light blue eyed woman with silver bright hair. Being compared to a god that was said to possess a wolf that once ruled all over the five terrains of the five regions was not a bad thing in his book. Afterall, as long as Daemon was concerned, he would gladly rule over everywhere if that was what it took to defeat that thing.

A knock sounded on his door and Yaren came in at his prompting.

His brother had been extremely busy as he had been—putting things in its place and making things go smoothly with the takeover, but there was an elephant that existed between them that Daemon had to address as soon as possible.

"How is the Theta?" Daemon asked nonchalantly, deciding it was best to start off their impending conversation with the lesser evil.

"The Healers have made little progress..." Yaren trailed with a clenched jaw, and Daemon knew that whatever Yaren wanted to say next was hard for the man himself to spit out.

"...they said you would make a better headway than them through the mark. Seeing as you’re bonded to her and all." Yaren finished with a voice filled with venom.

Daemon had a feeling the man was greatly under-reporting Zina WolfKnight’s condition, but Daemon believed he had pushed his brother enough on the entire affair.

"Mmm..." was Daemon’s noncommittal response as he pretended to be perusing through a document. It wasn’t exactly a pretense on his part as he was actually reading the words but whatever.

"I think it’s time we see Eldric off. Are you ready to talk to him yet?" Yaren quizzed, successfully steering their conversation into the territory of the bigger evil.

Daemon let out a huge breath of exasperation. Left for him, he would tell Yaren to see Eldric’s matter to the end as the man deemed fit, but there was an obligation on his side that he could not easily ignore as he wanted to.

"What about Moorim?" Daemon asked, flipping the document. He was currently reading through reports on the amount of tax that had been imposed on the common people over the years.

Part of Daemon’s plan had been to recover the money, and he had successfully recovered a huge sum to an extent. But a larger sum of the money was missing, and reading through the reports on the amount of taxes that had been collected over the years showed Daemon that said large sum was far larger than he had originally anticipated it to be.

If anything, it stood as more reasons why Yaren simply couldn’t do away with Eldric as he wanted. They still needed to squeeze a plethora of information from the man, especially his lupine lover, Lykom Lupus who was a maniac in his own rights.

Daemon heard the man had cried and laughed through the torture Yaren had put him through. Daemon would have stepped into the matter, but in reality, he was waiting for Marcus to come back to the North and personally handle the man himself. He had a great feeling that they would make a great fit for each other.

"Moorim is as silent as ever." Yaren said gruffly.

"I expected that much from a Beta who murdered his Alpha King." Daemon muttered to himself, rising from his chair.

He was no immortal, so despite how well he usually handled his insomnia, he could feel how restless he was, and how tensed his muscles were. He was in desperate need of rest, and not sleeping was not contributing to his cause.

They began walking towards the underground holding cells that were made out of an unhealthy amount of silver that unsettled his wolf. As they passed one cell holding and another, Daemon could see the cells were unusually packed full with many of Eldric’s ardent followers.

From his Delta, to his Gamma...truly, a lot of people who aided his tyrannical reign in one great way or the other.

Part of the plan had been that Zina WolfKnight would at the very least, be in one of those cells, and not on a cozy bed being attended to by dozens of skilled healers. So Daemon rightfully understood the subtle tic in Yaren’s jaw signifying his growing anger and overall hatred for the current situation.

They approached a center cell, and Daemon almost didn’t recognize the man in it.

"Hello, brother." He drawled, standing in front of the cell. The silver chains holding the man down rattled as he raised his head, glaring at Daemon.

"Daemon." Eldric gritted, eyes burning with hate. Which was bad because Daemon could bet everything he owed that the hate in Eldric’s eyes didn’t burn half as much as the hatred Daemon had for him.

"You must be a bad lover if that is how you call the name of every man you take to your bed." Daemon teased as Yaren unlocked the cell. "Don’t you know anything about foreplay?"

He stepped into the cell despite the constraints it bore down on his wolf. He could see it in the clear dark eyes of Eldric that great confusion had him rooted in place. Poor man didn’t know how he suddenly went from the high and mighty hunter, to becoming the low and pitiable haunted.

"I should have killed you." He gritted through what Daemon saw was bloodied teeth.

Daemon leaned down until their heights were equal. "What? Didn’t your father advise you to take my life as well when you took that of the former Alpha King?"

The hatred in his eyes cooled into something suspiciously as a humiliating self awareness. So the man knew that Moorim was his father?

Now, Daemon’s job just became way too easy.
