The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 428: Wedding Present
Chapter 428: Wedding Present
“Have you eaten anything? Actually, that’s a very stupid question. I know that you haven’t really eaten anything because you haven’t had the time, right?” the Duchess asked knowingly.
Although I didn’t want to admit it because I didn’t want to be an inconvenience to anyone, the Duchess was spot on correct that I hadn’t had the time or the opportunity to eat anything. The day had been so busy from early in the morning up until the evening, and everything seemed more important than filling my own stomach.
“It’s fine, I’ll make sure to eat something when this reception is over,” I told her reassuringly before offering her a smile. Duchess Flavia only gave me a disapproving glare before shaking her head from side to side.
“You look like you’re about to faint. It’s like I can see your face go pale even with all the makeup,” she said as she brought her face closer to mine to get a closer look at me.
“I’m feeling fine,” I told her while I tried to convince myself that I wasn’t feeling light-headed.
“Are you feeling alright, Mila? If you’re tired, we can take a rest,” Prince Leonard quickly offered.
“I’m fine, really. There are so many guests that want to congratulate us on our wedding,” I pointed out before trying my best to maintain my smile. The prince did not look convinced as he exchanged knowing glances with the Duchess. Just when I took a few steps towards the prince, it felt like the world was spinning around me and the ground suddenly became unstable. I closed my eyes as a wave of dizziness took over me, and then I had a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach.
“Mila! Are you all right?” Prince Leonard asked, sounding quite panicked. I felt his arm around my waist and on my arm as he supported my body.
“Let’s take her somewhere where she can rest,” Duchess Flavia quickly suggested.
“Mila, can you walk? You don’t look so well,” the prince said with clear worry. Before I could respond to him, it seemed like the prince had already made up his mind regarding the condition of my body, and perhaps he wasn’t wrong. I felt him lifting me up into his arms as he whispered encouraging words to me.
“I think I should call a doctor,” Duchess Flavia muttered under her breath. That was the last thing that I heard before all the sounds and all the sights around me slowly faded into darkness.
...
Where am I?
My entire body felt heavy and lethargic, and it took a lot of effort for me to slowly open my eyes. However, when I realized that I had fallen asleep, I woke up with a jolt as I rapidly sat up. I found myself sitting on my own bed in the bedroom that I shared with the prince.
“Mila, are you awake?” Prince Leonard asked, and I hated the look of worry in his eyes. My eyes darted from his face to the familiar surroundings of our bedroom.
“What happened? Our reception...” I mumbled before my eyes widened in shock.
I knew very well that I couldn’t be sleeping around in my bedroom when we were supposed to be out there greeting important guests at our wedding reception. I stared at the prince with clear panic as I began telling him that we needed to return to the reception right away. When I tried to get out of bed, the prince reached out his hand to stop me. Prince Leonard placed his hand on the top of my head before he smiled at me.
“Calm down, Mila,” he told me calmly as he began stroking my hair.
“How long was I out for? If we return now, we can still greet the guests,” I said as I began to wonder why the prince was against me getting out of bed.
“Stop worrying about anything or anyone apart from yourself. Right now all you need to focus on is getting enough rest,” the prince instructed patiently.
“But the reception...” I interjected.
“...Is over. Mila, the reception is already over,” the prince readily completed my sentence for me.
“The reception is over?” I said in disbelief as I stared at the prince’s face blankly.
“That’s right. The reception is already over and it is now almost 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon,” the prince said before showing me a warm smile.
It’s another day, already?
“What happened? I had no idea that I was asleep for so long,” I said without hiding my shock. I could feel the color draining from my face as my temple started to throb when I realized that I must have messed up one of the most important events of my life.
“You must have been so tired that you fainted. Luckily, I managed to bring you back to the palace and got a doctor to attend to you in time,” the prince said before he gently took my hand into his and gave it a comforting squeeze.
“I fainted?” I repeated what he said as I felt life draining away from my face.
How could I possibly faint at my own wedding reception?
“Don’t panic. You look like you’ve just seen a ghost,” the prince said teasingly before letting out a little laugh.
“It’s not funny! I must have caused so much trouble after fainting,” I said before my hand flew to cover my mouth.
“Not at all. Duchess Flavia managed to help wrap up the event flawlessly. Also, now truly isn’t the time for you to be worried about the reception,” the prince said quite sternly.
“It was such an important event,” I said regretfully. I was thankful for Duchess Flavia for helping out, but I was sure that the sudden disappearance of the bride and the groom from our wedding reception must have been truly unexpected and shocking to the guests.
“You should focus on recovering and getting healthy. You see, when the doctors came to check on you, they made a pleasant discovery,” the prince said before he smiled brightly at me.
Suddenly, it seemed like the prince was excited, although I had no idea what made him feel that way. The way that he beamed a bright smile at me made me feel uncomfortable inside as if I had done something wrong and he was about to call me out on it.
“What is that pleasant surprise?” I asked with an uneasy feeling.
