Chapter 421: King and Queen

“What is it?” I asked, feeling a sense of worry stir in the pit of my stomach.

“I’m concerned about Logan,” the prince confessed in a whisper.

“Concerned? What is there for you to be concerned about? Is something wrong?” I bombarded him with questions, thinking there might be a threat to Logan’s safety. I had no idea why I felt that way, but I just had a very bad feeling.

“Remember when you asked me why I changed my mind about taking over the throne? I’m sorry, but I haven’t been entirely honest with you,” the prince said with a regretful look on his face.

“It’s fine. It must have been hard for you,” I said understandingly while wondering what had the prince feeling so concerned. “What is it about Logan?” I asked as I started to frown with worry.

“Logan is getting a lot better at controlling his transformations now, but he’s still too young for us to be sure about what will happen in his future,” Prince Leonard said.

It was true that our son had improved tremendously at controlling his transformations. That being said, he was still far from controlling his transformation freely based on his will. There were still instances where he would transform despite not wanting to. Similarly, there were times when he struggled to return to his human form after transforming into his wolf form. What Logan seemed to be good at was controlling his partial transformation whenever he wanted to transform only a part of his body.

Surprisingly, the person who had been lending Logan quite a lot of help in this respect was none other than Prince Darius. What surprised me even more was the fact that Prince Darius was the one who willingly volunteered to help us out with the issue of Logan’s transformation. Although Logan was still very young, Prince Darius managed to find interesting ways to teach Logan how he could better control his transformations. That was when I found out that Prince Darius had the best control over his wolf and its abilities out of the three brothers.

“Well, I guess that we should be thankful to Prince Darius and all the lessons he’s given Logan,” I said before I found myself smiling a little.

“Darius is really doing his best, and I have to say that Logan is benefiting so much from it. I wish that would be enough, but I’m talking a bit more long-term than just his youth. I’m talking about what his life would be like in the future or even further into the future when the next generation takes over after us,” the prince explained before coming to a pause.

I thought that perhaps it was only natural that, as parents, we would be more concerned about the future now that we knew our son would be living in it, even if at that time we might already be gone from this world. That was probably why many people were very concerned about ensuring that the world becomes a better place for future generations. Despite thinking that, I wasn’t sure what specifically the prince was so worried about. Logan was a very healthy and happy child, and despite his unusual abilities, I couldn’t quite imagine him having a very difficult life given the support from the royal family.

“I don’t want our son to go through the same fate that I have because there’s no guarantee that he would be as lucky as me. I managed to find you, but what if there’s no one out there for him?” the prince asked, looking very troubled.

“I think Logan is still too young for us to be thinking about his future girlfriend,” I said before letting out a little giggle when I realized what the prince was so worried about.

“That’s not what I’m talking about...” the prince said after letting out a small laugh. I stared at him in confusion as I wondered what he found so funny about the conclusion that I had arrived at.

“If that’s not it, then what exactly are you worried about?” I asked.

“I don’t want Logan or anyone else in the future to be pressured into producing an ultimate Alpha just so that there would be someone to take over the throne. I mean, if you ask me honestly, I don’t think being an ultimate Alpha has anything to do with being a good king,” Prince Leonard said after regaining his composure and returning to his serious self.

“I see. I honestly never thought about that,” I admitted while feeling some sense of guilt.

Now that the prince had mentioned it, I realized that if we left things unchanged, there would be a time when we might end up pressuring our own son into producing the next heir to the throne. Then everything that we had experienced, he would have to experience, and perhaps, just as the prince had mentioned, he might not end up as lucky as we are.

“We have to do something. I know that changing the rules is going to be difficult but...” I said as I started to panic as I imagined the political headache that awaited our son.

“That is exactly why we have to do something. Now, to do that, I really need your help and cooperation,” the prince said before he grinned at me.

“I’ll do whatever I can to help. After all, this is the future of our son that we’re talking about,” I replied, feeling a sense of relief that there was something that I could do to protect my son’s future.

“I’ve given this quite a lot of thought, and it seems like the easiest way for us to change the rules is for me to be king and for you to be queen,” the prince revealed his plan with a firm nod of his head.

“Is that the reason why you suddenly changed your mind?” I asked with sudden realization as I blinked my eyes rapidly in pleasant surprise.
