The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 402: Labour
Chapter 402: Labour
"You’ve given us more than enough. Don’t worry, we’ll take it from here," Roxanna replied with a bright smile brimming with confidence.
"Thank you so much, your highness," Asana replied much more formally.
"If things get too difficult, let me know and I’ll give you a hand. Also, remember that you can always return to this place," Prince Leonard told them kindly.
"We won’t come back. No matter how tough life gets, we’ll face it together and we’ll make a place for ourselves back in our hometown," Roxanna said with clear conviction as Asana nodded close by her side.
"I see. If that is the case, then I guess all I can do right now is to wish you all the best," Prince Leonard said. I could feel myself getting emotional, and it felt like I was ready to burst out crying any moment now. Of course, I tried desperately to hold in my tears while I told myself that Prince Leonard was probably much more emotional than I was, although he wasn’t showing it.
"Take care of yourself, and make sure that you take good care of Mila," Roxanna said before smiling my way.
"Please take care of yourself. I wish you nothing but happiness," I said before returning her smile.
I stood close to the prince’s side as he held my hand in his while we waved with our other hands to the two women until their car was out of sight. Although I haven’t known Roxanna for that long, it felt like a void of emptiness had opened up inside of me now that she was gone. I thought with some regret that I wished that I could have the opportunity to spend more time with her and to get to know her better.
"Do you think she will ever come back for a visit?" I asked the prince while trying not to get too hopeful.
"Well, if she doesn’t, we can always visit her instead. Taking a holiday trip abroad sounds like fun, doesn’t it?" the prince suggested as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder.
"That sounds like a perfect idea. It would be a shame if we never saw her again," I said softly while telling myself that one day we would all meet again.
...
With the matter regarding Roxanna and her sister coming to a close, we managed to enjoy a short period of peace. The three-month mark of my deadline as promised by the committee was coming up in less than a few weeks, but I tried my best not to think about it and to take each day as it came. I focused on spending more time with the prince because the future had so many unknowns. Both of us did not talk about the impending deadline or its implications.
I was probably too worried about my own situation that I lost sight of what was going on around me. Before I knew it, the entire palace was rocked with news that Regina had gone into labor. I have not seen her since the last time that we were summoned by the king. The news that she had gone into labor spread like wildfire throughout the palace until I was certain that there wasn’t a soul alive that didn’t know of it. Naturally, I found myself praying for her safe delivery. Prince Leonard and I were together when we were informed of the news.
“I hope that it goes well," I murmured softly to myself.
"I’m sure that the most talented doctors are with her, so she should be fine," Prince Leonard replied before offering me a reassuring smile. I was certain that what he had told me was true. Since there was nothing else that we could do, we decided to wait for good news.
"Should we be on the way to the hospital?" I asked after a moment of silence.
"I think that we should stay here, unless you really want to go to the hospital," the prince replied.
"Oh, don’t mind me. I just thought that you might want to be there to support Regina and your brother," I replied with what I had in mind.
"I think it’s better for us to wait here," the prince replied shortly.
I didn’t think that Prince Leonard had a strained relationship specifically with Prince Florian or any of his brothers for that matter, so it surprised me a little that the prince was firm in his decision to remain in his palace. Regardless, I decided to respect his decision on this matter.
I had to admit that at first, I thought that we would be hearing news within a couple of hours; however, news did not arrive even as evening approached.
"We should go to bed. If there’s anything urgent, I’m sure that we will be informed," Prince Leonard said as he offered me his hand.
"Shouldn’t we wait a little longer?" I asked as I suddenly started to feel very worried about Regina and her safety. Once again, all those words of warnings that the doctors had told me regarding complications related to pregnancies came flooding back into my mind and caused endless worries.
"Let’s go to bed, Mila. Don’t worry, we will be one of the first to be informed when the baby gets born," Prince Leonard informed me without much excitement.
...
I was even more surprised when we woke up the next morning with the absence of any news.
"It takes longer than you think to give birth to a baby naturally," Prince Leonard said before he smirked at me.
"Really?" I asked with slight disbelief.
Just when we were about to discuss this matter, we heard a knock on the door before one of the prince’s butlers came in. From the look on the man’s face, I could tell that he had important news to share.
"Has Regina given birth already?" Prince Leonard asked right away.
"Yes," the butler replied simply.
"Is she and the baby safe?" Prince Leonard asked the first question that I also had on my mind.
"Yes," the butler replied again.
Although his affirmative answers sounded like good news, I could tell by the hesitant look on his face that something was off.
