Chapter 385: Pain

“Oh, I remember that day too. It feels like so long ago,” Jessie replied before letting out a loud laugh.

She was right that many things had changed for the three of us ever since that day. Back then we didn’t know where life was going to take us, and it did and I’m taking us to very surprising places.

“I remember you two telling me about the three princes of this Kingdom,” I said as I recalled what these two girls had told me on that day.

Back then, I never would have guessed that I would end up meeting the prince and finding out that I was his fated mate. I bet that Salena also never thought that she would end up becoming pregnant with Prince Darius’ child either.

“Ouch!” Selena suddenly exclaimed.

I turned to find her face looking quite pale and she appeared to be in so much pain.

“Are you all right?” I asked as I started to panic a little.

Jessie and I were both by her side as I wrapped an arm around her waist to support her. Selena had her eyes squeezed shut as she bit down on her lower lip as if to hold in the pain that she was feeling.

“Call for the doctor!” I ordered Jessie in a very loud voice.

I could see Jessie’s panic reaction on her face as she rapidly nodded her head in acknowledgment. Jessie quickly left to call for a doctor or someone that could help Selena while I continued to say comforting words to my friend. It was when Jessie left that I started to feel scared because I was now the only one by Selena’s side. I had never felt so useless before in my life because I didn’t quite know what to do or what was wrong with her.

“What is wrong? Where does it hurt?” I asked in a shaky voice.

Selena’s breathing was labored as she folded her arms around her belly.

“Come over here and take a seat,” I instructed as I tried my best to support her weight.

“Mila...” Selena called my name in a weak voice.

She sounded like she was in intense pain, and I could feel her body quivering. She was panting and whimpering weekly in pain as she continued clutching at her belly. I could feel that she was scared and that made me feel guilty for feeling scared as well. Selena called my name again and I could see the fear in her eyes as she stared into my face. By that time she had already started crying in desperation and probably also because of the pain that she was experiencing. I looked around anxiously while I wondered why help hadn’t arrived yet.

“Is your stomach hurting?” I asked although I already knew the answer.

Salena nodded her head before letting out another cry to express her pain. Although I wanted to lead her to the bench that wasn’t so far off, Salena had trouble walking and had started leaning quite a lot of her weight on me. I braced my body as best as I could to keep her on her feet. I didn’t want to think of the worst, but I couldn’t help but wonder if this was one of the side effects that the doctors had told me about. I wasn’t sure what was happening but I could tell that it wasn’t something good.

“Can you walk? I’ll try my best to take you to the bench over there,” I said as I tried to remain as calm as I could.

Instead of replying to me, Selena squeezed my arm before letting out another cry of pain.

“What’s wrong?” I asked as I moved my hand to stroke her back in an attempt to make her feel better.

“My baby...” Selena managed to mutter between her labor breathing.

My eyes followed her gaze downwards from her belly down to her legs and then I had to gasp in shock.

Dark red streaks trickle down her legs as they emerge from under the skirt of her dress. I didn’t want to believe what I was seeing as I kept staring at the blood on Salena’s legs.

Blood?

“Blood...” I murmured to myself as I felt my entire face go numb with shock.

“Help! Somebody please come and help!” I yelled at the top of my lungs as I looked from side to side for help.

Selena suddenly lost strength in her legs and she began slumping downwards. I quickly wrapped both my arms around her as I tried to keep her on her feet. Her body felt so much heavier than I had anticipated and I ended up sitting down slowly on the grass along with her. By that time, I had already realized just how grave her situation was.

“Mila! Selena!” Jessie’s voice sounded like a call from heaven when she finally arrived with a man who was probably a doctor and a few nurses.

“What happened?” The doctor asked me because it seemed like Selena could no longer speak properly.

“Her belly is hurting and she is bleeding,” I replied while trying to stop myself from jumping to conclusions.

As the nurses and the doctor helped her onto a stretcher, I kept on telling myself that she wasn’t having a miscarriage.

“Don’t worry, we’ll take care of her,” one of the nurses told me reassuringly before she quickly followed the others.

My legs felt so weak but I mustered my courage to stay by Selena’s side. I watched my friend’s teary face as I reminded myself that it wasn’t my turn to cry.

“You should head back for now. We will take care of her so you don’t need to worry,” the nurse told me when we arrived at the clinic.

“I’ll wait here...” I replied softly.

The nurse nodded her head once understandingly before disappearing into the clinic. I fully understood that I might get in their way if I went in there, so the best course of action was to stay outside and wait.

“She’s going to be okay,” Jesse told me while she probably tried to convince herself as well.
