The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 384: Switching Mates
Chapter 384: Switching Mates
“Since you haven’t gotten pregnant after spending all this time with my brother, I’m suggesting that we should try mating. Your body might not have a problem but you might not be compatible with him, anyways, there’s no harm in us giving it a try, right?” Prince Darius suggested as he looked directly at me without any shame.
If I couldn’t hear his words, I would be tempted to think that he was merely inviting me out for a casual stroll in the garden in the afternoon. I was too shocked to speak but the loud slamming sound caught my attention when Prince Leonard slammed his fist down on the table. His expression of anger towards his brother’s suggestion was extremely clear, and I was glad that I didn’t have to be the one to react towards Prince Darius’ scandalous suggestion.
“What are you getting so angry about? It’s normal for us to pass her around. If she’s not going to be productive while she’s with you, you might as well give me a try, or would you rather Florian take over instead?” Prince Darius replied coldly as if he was discussing an object to be shared rather than a person.
“Stop it with the nonsense before I actually really get mad at you,” Prince Leonard said with a clear warning in his tone.
“What about you? Aren’t you curious?” He turned to ask for my opinion.
I wasn’t even sure what I was supposed to be curious about. Just the thought of mating with another man that wasn’t Prince Leonard made my blood run cold.
“I refuse,” I stated simply.
“I see. Let’s just hope that you can maintain your luxury of having a choice," Prince Darius said to me quite sternly as if he was warning me about what was to come.
I wanted so desperately to ask him about Selena and what he thought of her. I had just met up with the woman that was pregnant with his child not so long ago and here he was proposing to sleep with me all for the purpose of impregnating me. The notion felt so inhumane, and I began feeling sorry for Selena and the situation that she had gotten herself in. I wondered if she knew just how cold and calculating the father of her future child was.
“I guess I should take my leave,” Prince Darius said to excuse himself.
“I won’t walk you out,” Prince Leonard said passively. I sat in complete silence with my hands clenched into fists on my lap as I waited for Prince Darius to take his leave.
...
**A few months later**
Despite Prince Darius’s daring suggestion, nothing happened after that day when I ran into the two brothers during dinner. After Prince Darius left that day, Prince Leonard spent some time reassuring me that nothing was going to happen and that I shouldn’t take his brother’s words to heart. Although I knew that Prince Darius was quite serious about his suggestion, I willingly took the easy way out and believed Prince Leonard’s words that nothing would come of it.
Life seemed to progress normally for us except for the fact that I now took more time to visit both Selena and Jessie at the Sacred Chambers. Whenever I met up with Selena, I couldn’t stop thinking of Prince Darius’ cold attitude. There was no denying that I felt bad for Selena and that made me worry even more for her. As the months went by, I could visibly see Salena’s belly growing rounder and bigger as she progressed further into her pregnancy journey. As for me, I continued living my life normally with the prince without any change. Whenever I saw Selena’s round belly, I couldn’t stop myself from feeling slightly disappointed with my inability to conceive the prince’s child.
“Has your morning sickness gone away?” I asked Selena as I reached out a hand to softly pet her belly.
“It happens sometimes. It’s quite random actually. I know they say that it should only last for the first few months, but I still feel slightly nauseous sometimes,” she replied before she smiled happily.
Despite living apart from Prince Darius, Selena still managed to maintain her positive attitude and sometimes she even appeared worry-free.
“It’s good to hear that you’re healthy. Let me know if you feel unwell. I’ll make sure that the doctors come to check up on you regularly too,” I said reassuringly.
The truth was I couldn’t stop worrying about her.
“Don’t look so worried. The committee makes sure that I’m well taken care of, you know, because I’m carrying Prince Darius’ baby,” Selena replied with a warm smile.
“That’s good...” I murmured in agreement.
“Why don’t we take a walk in the garden? The weather is really nice outside today and it’s not too sunny,” Jessie suggested excitedly.
“Don’t you think that Selena should just stay inside and rest?” I asked as I suddenly felt strangely concerned.
“I’m fine. I can still walk around and live life normally, although they don’t allow me to work anymore,” Selena said with a slightly disappointed look on her face. It looked as if she regretted giving up her duties as the maid.
“How could they possibly let you continue working now that you’re pregnant? You need to take care of yourself and the baby first,” I lectured her quite sternly.
“Thank you for worrying, but I can definitely go for a walk in the garden. Plus, it is getting a little stuffy in here, and I would prefer the fresh air. I’m sure that my baby will agree,” Salena replied while sounding quite confident of herself.
Since I couldn’t come up with any other objections, the three of us headed outside for a walk in the garden. Jessie was right that the weather was extremely pleasant. The sun was out although it wasn’t too warm and the wind felt optimally cool. The sky above us was clear and blue and it felt just like the perfect day for the three of us to spend time together.
“This kind of reminds me of the first time that we met,” I said reminiscingly as I recalled the day that we met and tended to the gardens together.
