The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 366: Fated Mates
Chapter 366: Fated Mates
“That’s right, it was you...” the prince reaffirmed once again.
“Me? Are you sure that the woman in your dream was really me? Did you clearly see what she looked like?” I ask as I struggle to believe him.
“I think it’s similar to your dreams. I didn’t see her directly. However, I clearly saw her eyes and their unique quality,” he replied with certainty in his voice.
“Her eyes?” I murmured.
“That’s right. Her eyes were of a slightly different color from each other’s. Just like yours...” he replied before grinning my way.
My hand instinctively flew to my eyes as I was reminded of this birth defect that I’ve had ever since I was born. My eyes had always been a slightly different color for each other and many people at the orphanage were freaked out by it. I had never thought that this abnormality was anything but weird and burdensome.
“Your eyes are very attractive, Mila,” the prince said as if he could sense my troubled feelings.
“Thank you...” I whispered before lowering my hand from my face.
“You might not know this but there was an extensive description of you in the booklet for items that would be up for auction. The booklets were distributed to buyers prior to the day of the auction itself. When they described that you had eyes of different colors, it truly drew my interest. My instinct told me that if I went to that auction, I might finally get the chance to meet the girl that always appeared in my dreams,” he said before letting out a soft chuckle.
“I didn’t know anything about that...” I replied without knowing what else to say.
“I didn’t even need to see you clearly or to check the color of your eyes to know that you were the one that I was looking for. When I first laid eyes on you, I was sure that I had found you,” he said with utter confidence.
A strange feeling fluttered in the pit on my stomach when I realized that it might be true that I was a woman that he dreamed of in his dreams. I began to really wonder about the identity of the man in my dreams. If I was really the woman in dreams, then was there a possibility that he could be the man that appeared in my dreams as well?
I couldn’t stop staring at the prince’s face as I wondered if he would tell me if I asked him something that seemed so crazy.
“Do you think that you might be the man that I dreamt of all this time in my dreams?” I managed to ask before I lost the courage.
“I’m not sure, Mila. That’s for you to decide,” he replied with a grin.
I wasn’t sure whether he didn’t know or if he just wanted me to figure things out for myself. One thing that I realized was that after meeting the prince I rarely dreamt of that man again. Of course, there was no guarantee that I was right about it, but if I had to take a wild guess then I would say that the prince was the man from my dreams all along. There was probably no need for me to dream of him any more when he was right by my side almost every single day.
“I realized that after I met you and then we grew close that those dreams slowly came to a stop. I could sleep more peacefully than before and I never saw that man again in my dreams. I guess it doesn’t really matter, but if I had to take a guess...then he might as well be you,” I replied before smiling sweetly at the prince.
It felt like it didn’t matter anymore who the man I saw in my dream was. To me what was more important was the future that I wanted to share with the prince. Since the prince asked me all these questions about paranormal activity and dreams, I wonder whether it had anything to do with the wolf genes in my blood.
“What does this have to do with the Wolf genes in my blood? Is it normal for wolves to experience these kinds of dreams and paranormal activities?” I asked the prince.
“I’m not sure about paranormal activities, but as for dreams, it isn’t uncommon for wolves to dream of their mate when they come of age.. either that or it is a sign that they will be meeting their fated mate soon...” the prince replied.
Fated mate?
“I don’t seem to follow. What is a mate? And what is this ‘fated mate’ that you mentioned?” I asked as I felt myself feeling more confused than before.
One mystery seemed to lead to another. One question seemed to lead to another question and it all felt like an endless loop. There were just so many things that felt so alien to me.
“Are you familiar with the nature of wolves?” the prince asked before he smiled a little at me.
“Not particularly...” I replied honestly.
“Because we inherited the genes of the wolves, we also inherited some of their instinct and some parts of their lifestyle. Unlike humans who can get married divorce and then marry again to various partners over the course of their lifetime, wolves only have one mate,” the prince explained patiently.
“As in they only have one partner for their entire lives?” I asked as his words perked my interest.
“That’s right. When a wolf finds his destined mate, they would stay together forever, and even if one of them were to die, the other would not find another,” the prince continued to explain while nodding his head.
“Am I your mate?” I asked before I could stop myself.
Since the prince mentioned that the wolf genes in our blood may lead us to dream of our mate and he did mention that I was the woman who appeared in his dreams, then wouldn’t that make me his mate?
Me as the prince’s mate?
Can something like that even be possible?
What does it even mean to be his mate?
