The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 367: Controlling Our Fate
Chapter 367: Controlling Our Fate
“You’re a smart girl. You got that right, Mila. You are indeed my mate,” the prince replied calmly and I could tell that he was dead serious about this.
“Are you serious?” I blurted, although it felt like I already knew the answer.
“I wouldn’t joke about this,” he replied.
“But how could that be?” I asked while feeling very stunned.
“Why are you so surprised? Honestly, I thought that you would have figured it out by now. Even if you do not know the concept of mates, don’t you realize that you’re very attracted to me?” the prince asked if rest lips curved into a mischievous smirk.
My lips quivered and I was at a total loss for words. It might be true that I was very attracted to the prince but I never realized that he also realized it and I couldn’t believe that he was actually pointing it out directly to my face. I felt heat rushed to my cheeks and I had to avert my eyes from his gaze.
“I apologize for being so direct but you don’t have to be shy about it. If it helps, I’m just as attracted to you as you are attracted to me. I found myself very drawn to you since the first time, no, maybe even before the first time that I actually laid eyes on you,” the prince said as his blue eyes continued to watch my every reaction.
His words were so direct and I didn’t know how to react to them. It felt like he was confessing his feelings to me and my heart raced rapidly in my chest as my inner core throbbed with heat. At first I felt embarrassed but when the meaning of his words slowly sank in, a very warm feeling blossomed inside of my chest and I realized just how happy I was.
“In more human terms, does this mean that we are sort of made for each other?” I asked hopefully.
“I guess you can put it that way. Anyways, having those dreams might be the first sign of your wolf genes activating. I’m not sure how you managed to lose your memories but it could have been a defensive mechanism of your mind to protect itself from trauma or it could be the result of someone with the right abilities sealing your memories and suppressing your wolf genes from materializing in the process,” the prince said with a thoughtful look on his face.
“Someone may have suppressed my memories? Are you saying that someone somehow locked up my memories? Is something like that even possible?” I asked as my brows drew into a steep frown.
“Can you perhaps recall something similar to what I have explained happening before?” the prince asked.
“Now that you mentioned it, I guess I had just witnessed something like that very recently when I dreamt of the night that I got separated from my parents in the dark forest. My father said something about making me forget everything so that I could move on and live a normal life. After that, he placed his hand on top of my head and then everything just went dark and I couldn’t remember anything anymore,” I replied as I recalled and replayed that scene over again in my head.
“If your father is who I think he is, he might indeed have the ability to do something like that. The fact that you did end up forgetting might also be enough proof that he did suppress your memories,” the prince replied before letting out a soft sigh.
“Do you know my parents? Do you know what really happened? Do you know why my family was hunted down the way that they were?” I asked in rapid succession all the questions that entered my mind.
I could sense that the prince knew something and I was starving for answers. I felt like I could no longer wait when I felt that the answers were just so close.
“Calm down, Mila. You sound very tired. Maybe this is enough for tonight...” the prince said as he reached out a hand to stroke my hair.
“Will you promise to tell me everything that you know?” I asked pleadingly.
“After you have had enough rest and after I judge that you’ll be able to take everything in. The truth might not matter as much as your health and your safety, Mila...” the prince replied smoothly.
“I have one more question,” I said in a small voice.
I could tell that the prince no longer wished to discuss this matter with me, at least not for today.
“What is it? I will allow you just one more question, so ask wisely,” the prince replied before letting out a soft chuckle.
“What is going to happen to us now? What is going to happen now that we are mates?” I asked the burning question on my mind.
Perhaps it mattered less why we were born each other’s mate or how we ended up meeting each other in this way. Maybe what mattered more wasn’t the past but our future and what lay ahead for us.
“Nothing is going to happen,” the prince replied in short.
His answer was so anti-climatic that I didn’t know what to make of it. All I could do was stare at the prince as my mind raced to find any hidden meaning behind his short response.
“I’m not sure that I understand...” I said as I shook my head from side to side.
“Nothing is going to happen unless we choose for it too. We may be mates according to fate, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t control our fate and what holds for us in the future. At least that is what I would like to think. There may be some circumstances that brought us together and even I know that our relationship didn’t start off the normal way. However, I would like to believe that we could still alter the course of our own fate and make our own decisions about what we want to do with our lives and our future,” the prince replied quite determinedly.
“I also believe that we can!” I replied with a sudden burst of confidence.
