The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 197: Dreams and Deals
Chapter 197: Dreams and Deals
He could tell that he was on the verge of getting this little lady to help him with his plans and he wasn’t lying when he said that he was willing to offer her any reward of her choice. Salena hesitated as she looked away. Although the prince’s command wasn’t something very difficult to fulfill, she still found herself uncertain if she wanted to go along to help him with his plans.
“Salena...” Darius called her name.
His hands reached for her arms and pulled her closer to him until she was forced to face him and look up into his face. The stern and cold look that Darius gave her made her entire body tremble with fear. Her body froze in shock as the prince pulled her even closer and then his face was directly in front of hers. Salena could hear her heartbeat ringing in her ears before he felt the warmth of his lips against her forehead. For a moment, she was too shocked and too confused at what was happening that she forgot to breathe.
“Please stop. This isn’t...what I want...” she protested as she turned her face away from the prince.
She tried to pull her arms away from his grasp, but he refused to let her go. Salena started to panic for real this time as she stared up at the prince’s cold eyes pleadingly. Although he had just kissed her, the emotionless look in his grey eyes frightened her senseless.
“You don’t want this?” he asked with clear confusion.
“I’m sorry...please let me go...” she pleaded.
Darius cocked his head to the side as he continued to observe her. Salena was on the verge of tears, but he wasn’t willing to let her go until he got what he wanted from her. His grip on her arms tightened as he held her in place.
“Then tell me, Salena. What is it that you want?” Darius inquired.
As far as he was aware, everyone had something that they wanted.
“Nothing...I...” Salena replied before she lost her train of thought.
All she could focus on was the prince’s face and the fact that he was still holding on to her. She wanted to look way from his cold grey eyes, but she found herself staring back at him instead.
“Are you really satisfied with being a maid your whole life? Is there really nothing else that you wish to do? Nothing that you want to achieve in this life?” Darius asked as he continued to watch her.
Salena’s eyes seemed to light up at his words and Darius knew that he was that much closer to getting what he wanted from her. There was something that Salena wanted and all he had to do was wait for her to tell him.
“I...I want to study...” Salena confessed in a whisper.
“Study? Study what precisely?” Darius asked with interest.
“I want to study medicine. I heard that the library here in the palace has many books and...the doctors are very skilled...” she replied in a faint whisper that Darius had no difficulty in hearing.
“That’s a pretty decent dream that you have. I can’t have you wandering around in the central library right away because that would mean that you won’t be close to Mila. However, there is a library right here in the Sacred Chambers. If you want, I can ask Madame Sand to assign you to work there while you’re free from tending to Mila, of course...” he suggested before he smiled.
“Is that really possible?” Salena asked excitedly.
“It is easily possible with orders from a prince,” Darius replied frankly.
Salena couldn’t believe her sudden change in luck. It felt like a dream come true for her to be offered an opportunity to study and get close to the a source of knowledge. Her eyes widened and she smiled despite her fear of being close to the prince.
“I take it that we have a deal then. Every few days or whenever that I’m free, I’ll come to see you. Do not write anything that I’ve asked for you to report. You will speak only to me about this so that there would be no records of any kind. Is that clear?” Darius instructed.
“Yes, Your Highness...” Salena replied with a nod of her head.
“As for our deal, let’s keep it a secret between us, ok?” he said calmly.
“Yes, Your Highness,” Salena replied obediently.
“Good. I look forward to seeing you. We can meet in the library,” Darius said before his lips curved into a very satisfied smile.
Finally, the prince slowly let go of her arms and Salena immediately took a few steps backwards to distance herself from the prince. Darius chuckled and shook his head at her clearly frightened expression. Without another word to her, he left the room and closed the door firmly behind him.
...
“Sit over there...” Prince Leonard ordered as he pointed to a chair in the furthest corner of the room from where he was standing.
“Over there?” I murmured in wonder as my eyes followed to where he was pointing.
“Yes, sit over there,” the prince repeated.
I watched in confusion as the prince sat down on a chair close to where he was standing. His blue eyes stared at me as he waited silently for me to comply to his command. Although I had no idea why he wanted me to sit so far away from him or how we could possibly study properly by being so far away from each other, I decided to walk over and sit down on the chair on the furthest corner of the room.
“What did Darius talk to you about?” Prince Leonard asked.
It felt very strange how we had to speak up to make sure that the other party heard would hear because of the unnecessarily far distance between us. I had no idea why the prince was doing this, but I hoped that we didn’t have to spend the entire lesson calling out to each other like this.
