Chapter 125: Mates and Desires

“What did he ask for?” I asked as a knot formed in my lower abdomen.

“After spending some time with her while he tried to understand the life she had been living, he asked for her to return with him to the capital city. The man could not understand how a young woman like her could live among the lot of barbaric beasts in the wild. He insisted that she return with him when his army left. The girl did not know how to negotiate with him and decided to leave her pack to travel back to the capital city with him,” the madame continued with her story.

When the two of them arrived at the capital city, the general immediately brought her along to meet the king and queen to report the progress that he had made in successfully ending the conflict in town. The king was surprised to see that the general had brought back a young woman with him, and he became even more surprised when the general requested to have the woman as his wife when the king asked him what he wanted for his reward.

“And she actually agreed to it?” I asked in shock.

“Apparently, they were in love...” Madame Sand said before smiling a little my way.

I had no idea when and how that happened but then I doubted that Madame Sand would know something like that either, so I didn’t bother asking for more details. Let’s just assume that somehow, they did fall in love with each other enough for him to want her as his wife and vice versa.

“Did the king and queen ever discover that she was their long-lost daughter?” I asked curiously.

“They did. Thanks to the woman having a necklace that was worn by the princess. The entire kingdom celebrated the return of their princess and for a while there was peace and prosperity again. Until one day, the Alpha of that pack of wolves entered the capital and demanded to have the woman back,” Madame Sand continued with her story before heaving a sigh.

“What happened next?” I asked.

“This is where the story gets a little complicated. The princess who could communicate with the beast explained that the Alpha believes that she is his mate and that he has the right to take her back. It already seemed too late because the princess was already married to the general. After much debate, the princess finally made her decision...” she said before she turned and stared right into my eyes.

I bit on my lower lip when I sensed that the story was coming to its climax and conclusion. The madame paused as if she was picking her words carefully.

“It was a full moon night when the princess went into labor. The child that she gave birth to was extraordinary. He had superhuman strength and enhanced senses. It didn’t take long for the child to develop clear wolf-like features. Soon after, he could freely shift form between his human and wolf form,” the madame explained before she paused again.

“How did something like that happen?” I asked in wonder.

“No one really knows. Some say it was because of the power of the full moon. Some say it was because of her love for both the general and the Alpha wolf. Some say that this legend never existed in the first place and that the mixed breed between man and wolf is just another specie that roams this earth, although they are extremely rare...” the madame replied with a shrug of her shoulders.

“And you’re telling me that the members of the immediate royal family are all wolves?” I asked as a cold shiver ran up my spine.

I watched as she pursed her lips together while her eyes glared at me. I heard her sudden inhale of breath before she let out another loud sigh.

“I heard that you’ve spent some nights with Prince Leonard. During that time, did you not witness anything extraordinary?” she asked as her eyes narrowed at me suspiciously.

I would be lying if I said that I didn’t witness anything because I did. I’ve seen partial changes in both Prince Leonard and also Prince Florian. If those two princes are wolves, then the same must apply to their father and Prince Darius. I closed my eyes before letting out a sigh.

“I’ve seen some of his...transformations...” I admitted in a small voice.

“Were you shocked?” she asked.

“Yes...” I replied simply.

“Were you scared?” she asked further.

“Yes...” I replied truthfully.

“The fact that the royal family are wolves or have wolf-like abilities is strictly classified information. Common people don’t know about this. Even within this palace, very selected few people know about it. However, it is the role of the honorable maidens to know about it and take this fact into consideration in how they serve the royal family,” the madam explained as if finally getting to her point.

“How we...serve?” I repeated her words questioningly.

“That’s right. After all, wolves mate very differently from humans. A human-wolf hybrid, a specie that is commonly referred to as werewolves, has mating and sexual desires that is also a hybrid between that of a human and a beast. It is truly intriguing and complex. Of course, just like the human sex drive, the sexual need, desire, and preference of each wolf is different,” the madame explained matter-of-factly.

“What are honorable maidens supposed to do exactly?” I asked the question that had been plaguing my mind.

“Have you heard of the term ‘Ultimate Alpha’?” she asked instead of answering directly to my question.

“No...I don’t think so...” I mumbled.

Even if I’ve heard of it, I didn’t know what it meant at all.

“Ultimate Alpha is the name given to a man who possesses a very strong wolf,” she said before she smiled gently at me.

I had no idea what that meant...at all.

“I’m sorry but I just don’t understand...” I said with a shake of my head.

“I’ll try my best to explain. An Ultimate Alpha...” the madame said.

The sudden sound of the door opening with a slam interrupted what the madame was about to say. Our attention shifted to the door and the figure that had just entered the room.
