Chapter 114: His Request

“Wasn’t it you and your senior advisors who decided to put a virgin woman on the list of items that I was supposed to purchase at the auction? If I’m not wrong, there wasn’t a spending limit on any of the items that I was tasked to buy,” the prince replied without much care.

“You’re not wrong about that and it’s not the money that I’m concerned about. What is spent is spent,” the king replied.

“Then why are you so adamant in making her an honorable maiden? Don’t we have enough of them already?” the prince asked as his eyes narrowed at his father.

“Well, the same can be said for maids. We have more maids than honorable maidens and I really don’t understand why you would want someone so expensive to be stuck as a maid even if we are talking about a royal maid,” the king pressed as he leaned forward in his seat to return the prince’s stare.

“Mila lacks knowledge and experience required to serve as an honorable maiden. That should be plainly obvious without my explanation,” Prince Leonard continued to argue his case.

I felt extreme uncomfortable as the conversation quickly turned into an argument. The prince’s words were probably true. I didn’t have the qualities that those honorable maidens possess. When I met those women in the garden before, they seemed to shine like jewels and all of them seemed special. I could never be like them. Even though I already knew that, hearing the prince say those words brought an unexplainable tightness to my chest.

“Everything can be learnt, and I believe that Mila has the intelligence to do so. It may take time but with the instructors that we have and with the trainings that we can put her through, I am sure that she can become a respectable honorable maiden,” Prince Darius voiced his opinion.

Prince Leonard shot his brother a deadly look that only said that they would need to have a talk about this later on in private while Prince Darius didn’t seem to have any regrets regarding his words or the side that he was taking in the debate.

“Well, if you’re not interested in her, there is no harm in adding her to the sacred chambers. She can live a better life there,” Prince Darius stated matter-of-factly.

“Who knows? Just because you’re not interested in her doesn’t mean that you brothers share the same sentiments,” the king said with a chuckle.

“If you’re really worried about her and her future, making her an honorable maiden might be better. After all, we all have to go through the system and the right procedures to spend time with her if she becomes one. Isn’t that, right?” Prince Darius said before smiling down at his brother.

What does he mean by procedures to spend time together?

I was struggling to keep up with the conversation and it seemed like there were many things that I didn’t know about becoming an honorable maiden. However, according to the king, I am now an honorable maiden. It seemed like sooner rather than later, I would learn about what that meant and what is expected of me.

“It has already been decided and I just thought that you should be informed. Now, what did you want to request for?” the king asked to put an end to the argument.

Prince Leonard seemed thoughtful for a brief moment before his blue gaze shifted from the king to me. His lips curved into a mischievous smirk before his face returned to its usual expressionless mask. Slowly, the prince stood up from his seat and came to stand by my side while I looked up at him in pure confusion.

“I request for Mila to serve me tonight as my honorable maiden,” the prince requested.

I felt a slight pressure on my shoulder and found that the prince had placed his hand on my shoulder and soon he was grabbing it tightly. His eyes stared at the king who seemed to consider his words.

He wants me as his honorable maiden? Why?

What are honorable maidens supposed to do anyways?

“Any objections?” the king turned to ask Prince Darius.

“None. Any of us prince can request for an honorable maiden to serve us as long as she is not already allocated to serve another. Since Mila just became an honorable maiden, no one else except for Leonard has requested for her and I am not interested in submitting a competing request,” Prince Darius replied calmly before he smiled a little my way.

Did he see this coming? Probably...

Prince Darius seemed to know everything, and it was a mystery how that was possible.

“Then it’s settled. Congratulations, Leonard. You may have Mila as you have requested,” the king declared with a proud smile.

I looked from one man to the next as I struggled to process what had happened. Somehow, I became an honorable maiden and now I belonged to Prince Leonard based on the king’s permission.

“Mila, you should move into the Sacred Chambers right away because you are an honorable maiden now. We can’t have you returning to the maid quarters,” Prince Darius told me sternly.

I have to move out?

“Darius is right about that...” the king readily agreed.

“It’s already late. Mila can stay with me for the night. Afterall, I have requested for her,” Prince Leonard quickly

“Very well,” the king replied.

I stared at the king and Prince Darius before my eyes turned to stare at Prince Leonard who was still standing by my side with his hand on my shoulder. Although I wasn’t sure what had just happened, it seemed like I needed to spend the night with Prince Leonard again. The meeting that seemed to have lasted forever finally came to an abrupt end. I wasn’t sure if the three men reached a satisfying agreement, but it seemed like all of them were willing to settle with this conclusion for tonight.

After our audience with the king ended, I found myself back with Prince Leonard at his palace. It was already quite late at night by that time and the palace was peaceful and quiet when we arrived.
