Chapter 113: Our Relationship

“Oh, I’m actually offered a choice. This is surely rare...” Prince Leonard replied sarcastically.

“Choose before I choose for you,” the king said without much patience.

“I have a request to make...” the prince stated abruptly.

“You can state it after I am done with what I have in mind,” the king replied sternly.

“Fine. You can ask me your questions, then inform me of what you want before listening to my request,” the prince replied after letting out an unsuppressed sigh.

“Good. Then I’ll start with my questioning. Mila, what is your relationship with Prince Leonard?” the king asked.

I gasped in shock at both his question and the fact that he was questioning me instead of the prince. My eyes widened in shock and my lips trembled as if in fear. I glanced down as I debated with myself about what I should say. Although it seemed like a simple and straightforward question, it wasn’t simple at all given how confused I already was about what took place between Prince Leonard and me. I glanced to my side and found Prince Leonard’s blue eyes staring right at my face as he also waited for my response to the king’s questions.

How am I supposed to answer anything with Prince Leonard sitting right next to me?

“I...I am a maid that has...served him on some occasions as required...” I replied while trying to pick the right words.

It’s not like I can come out and share the intimate relations that I shared with the prince. Just thinking about it made me feel embarrassed enough and I knew that I could never voice it out loud to anyone.

“I see. What about you, Leonard? What is your relationship with Mila?” the king asked.

I couldn’t stop myself from looking at the prince’s face as I wondered how he was going to respond. My heart raced in my chest wildly as I waited anxiously to hear what he had to say about us. I wasn’t sure what I was hoping for him to say; however, his next words took me by surprise.

“As in, you want to know if I’ve mated with her yet or not, right?” the prince asked in return without any emotion in his voice.

Mated?!

I gasped at his blunt words before I looked away to hide just how flustered I was. The king laughed loudly at his son’s response, and it took a while for him to completely calm down again. The atmosphere in the room was strange. There was so much tension yet at the same time there was a conflicting feeling of casualness like a conversation between close family members.

“That wasn’t what I said...” the king denied casually.

“But it was what you were implying, was it not? I have no idea why you’re asking something you already know the answer to...” Prince Leonard said just as casually.

Something made me feel like the prince and his father didn’t exactly get along although they were not openly showing it. They just seemed to be at odds with each other and their conversation did not flow.

“Maybe you’re right. I can definitely smell you on her since the moment that she walked in. It did make my decision much easier. You can smell Leonard on her too right, Darius?” the king replied as he stroked his beard thoughtfully.

“Yes, father,” Prince Darius confirmed.

They can smell Prince Leonard on me? How?

I did spend the night with the prince, but it wasn’t like I didn’t take a thorough shower afterward and I was sure that I did not smell. Suddenly, I grew extremely conscious of myself and had to resist the urge to sniff myself. I might stink some when I worked hard, and I sweated but I have never been told that I stank before in my life.

“He doesn’t mean that you smell bad, Mila. You just smell like me...” Prince Leonard whispered to me before he grinned at me.

What is that supposed to mean?

That wasn’t even the main point. Why did the prince tell the king that we had mated when we...haven’t really...

“Aha...” I mumbled softly although I didn’t quite get it.

“Is that all that you wanted to ask?” Prince Leonard asked while sounding bored.

“For now,” the king replied conclusively.

“Then, what is it that you wanted to tell me?” the prince asked.

“Darius, can tell you explain what we’ve decided...” the king said before relaxing back into his seat on the throne.

It seemed like Prince Darius would be the one to inform his brother of what the king had decided while he was not yet in the meeting room.

“The king has decided to promote Mila. From this moment forward, Mila is no longer a maid, but an honorable maiden and she will receive all treatment as expected of one,” Prince Darius declared clearly.

“Why would you decide to do something like that?” Prince Leonard asked.

For the first time he showed some real emotions since joining the meeting and that feeling seemed to be extreme irritation and displeasure. His blue eyes glared at his father and then his brother accusingly as he demanded for an explanation. I doubted that he would get one that would satisfy him.

“It’s to reward her, of course. Since Darius and Callum reported that she took care of you so well when you were sick during the night of the full moon. I thought that it is only natural that I reward her for her excellent service,” the king replied with the same reason that he gave me.

“I see...you’re really a very generous king...” Prince Leonard replied coldly.

The king just laughed at Prince Leonard’s sarcastic comment and once again the atmosphere grew tense all around us.

“Why are you so against it?” the king asked as if in wonder.

“Mila isn’t suitable for the position. She doesn’t have the qualities required for her to become an honorable maiden,” Prince Leonard stated matter-of-factly.

“Yet you seem interested in her enough to purchase her. I was told that you paid an exorbitant sum for her...” the king countered.
