Chapter 112: Royal Trial

The truth was that it didn’t matter what she thought. Regina did not formally have a say in the staffing of maids and other palace staff. On top of that, the only orders that took precedent over mine are orders that came directly from the king and no one else.

“The king has asked for your presence at the main meeting hall. Please follow me there immediately,” Callum stated formally.

“Right now?” I asked as I wondered what father had to talk to me about that seemed so urgent.

The matter must be urgent enough for him to dispatch Callum all the way here to Regina’s palace just to get me. The only way to find out is to go there and meet the king.

“Yes, Your Highness,” Callum replied sternly.

“Very well...” I replied.

Callum nodded as if relieved that I was willing to follow him without a fuss. I glanced over at Rina who was visibly upset but knew better than to speak up or voice her discontent. She knew just as well as I did that there was nothing that she could do if the king wanted to see me right now and that she couldn’t stop me from leaving. I headed for the door before I halted at the doorway.

“Go to sleep, Gina” I instructed without turning around to take a look at her.

**In the Main Meeting Hall**

Although the king has finished dishing out my reward and I was forced to go along with it, it didn’t seem like we were done for the day. According to the king, I was no longer a maid but an honorable maiden now and I must act as such. However, I wasn’t dismissed from the meeting. Instead, the king asked me to wait for a moment because he had other questions for me.

Since it seemed like the meeting would stretch for a while longer, a few butlers were ordered to bring in chairs so that I could sit and wait. Prince Darius was also offered a seat and that wasn’t surprising. What was surprising was that another chair was placed next to mine as if we were expecting another person to join us.

The king and Prince Darius shared small talks just like normal people which I found strange to observe to kill the time. The room was cold, and I had started shivering a little as my anxiousness set in again. I was sure that the wait wasn’t that long, but it felt like a year had passed by.

Suddenly, the entrance to the main hall opened. The sound of the large doors being opened caught my attention and my head immediately turned toward the open door to see who had entered. My eyes didn’t need to do their job much because a moment after the door opened, a man’s voice loudly announced the identity of the person who had made his entrance.

“Prince Leonard, the first prince of the kingdom has arrived,” the voice announced loud and clear.

Prince Leonard is here?!

To say that I was shocked would be an understatement. It was extremely unexpected for the king to call for me but even more so for him to call Prince Leonard into a meeting with me. My mind immediately recalled the steamy night that we shared together in the bath and a blush crept up my face at the thought. A tight knot formed in the pit of my stomach, and I had a foreboding that the king was about to ask us something regarding that night.

Prince Leonard strode into the hall proudly and walked along the long path that I had walked when I first entered the large meeting hall. Now that he was closer, I could see clearly the grey suit that he wore with a light blue tie that seemed to match the shade of his blue eyes. I could feel his eyes on mine and then our eyes locked as he approached where I was seated.

I immediately stood up from my seat and curtsied to him when he arrived where I was standing right in front of the raised platform. If the prince was at all surprised to see me there, he did not show it at all, and I couldn’t tell what he was feeling.

“Good evening, father and brother,” the prince greeted the other two men quite casually.

“I’m glad that you’re here. Hopefully I did not disturb anything by calling you here so suddenly,” the king replied.

“Not at all. You actually got me out of a difficult situation just now...” the prince replied followed by a chuckle.

He seemed to be in a good mood despite the difficult situation that he mentioned just now. I wondered what that was all about. The prince turned and smiled a little at me, but he did not greet me with words.

“I guess I’m supposed to sit there next to her...” Prince Leonard said when he spotted the two chairs arranged side-by-side.

He made his way to the chair and sat down on it without hesitation at all before he turned and offered me a kind smile.

“Sit down next to me, Mila,” he instructed as he gestured with his hand for me to sit down.

Confused as to what was going on, all I could do was nod before taking my seat just as he had instructed. It felt strange to be sitting next to the prince like this and I could feel the other two men’s eyes on us.

“Sitting down here just makes me feel like I’m on trial. Doesn’t it just feel that way, Mila?” the prince said before turning to ask me for my opinion.

“Umm...I guess...” I mumbled a soft reply.

Prince Leonard just laughed softly like he was thoroughly enjoying this whole situation and my clear discomfort. Prince Darius cleared his throat as if to call the meeting to order. I sat up a little straighter in my seat as I waited for what was to come.

“I have something to inform you about and also somethings that I wish to ask you. Which would you like to hear first?” the king asked.
