The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 907: THE FOURTH KNIGHT
Chapter 907: THE FOURTH KNIGHT
"What else do you want to hear from me?" Abby gritted her teeth. The only consolation that she had was her baby. Grace had said that the baby was fine. Whatever Elder Rose was trying to do to her, she couldn’t go through with it because someone interfered, but where was Liam?
Her heart ached to see him. She wanted to know if he was fine. She had lost Cedric, she couldn’t lose him too. The last time she saw him was when she asked for Grace because she was in pain.
That was all. That was the last time she saw him... and Abby was afraid that would be truly their last moment together. How unfair it was...
"The baby is fine, how can you say that your mother wanted to kill her own granddaughter?" Elder Xarex retorted.
Abby scoffed. "Did she ever see me as a daughter?"
Right at that time, Rei entered the room with two men by his side, they were the people from the pure faction.
To Cane and Iris’s surprised, Rei looked fine. Redmond and Jace narrowed their eyes too, because they happened to see how his body had burned, flames engulfed him completely, but right now, he was unscathed.
How that could possibly happen? He was not a shifter, neither he had the ability to heal so fast, right?
Then they were reminded about the ritual. Yet, based on what Abby said, even with the ritual, Rei still needed time to recuperate and recover completely. What kind of magic he had? Was he that powerful?
"I am sorry for making everyone waited for me, there are a few things I need to take care of," Rei said lightly. There was no trace of the earlier fight. He looked like the fire didn’t even reach him. He was fine. Completely fine.
How this could be possible? Lou was still unconscious and Grace stayed with him, just in case his condition took a drastic turn.
Iris and Abby managed to dispel the curse that Rei inflicted on him, Iris made sure of it, since she checked on Lou thrice. The merchant would have guffawed smugly to learn Iris was extremely worried about him, unfortunately, he was not even aware of his surroundings.
"Can you see that? He is fine, how could you say he was burning? No matter how great of a magic user he is, he will not be able to appear in good condition if he was really being burned." Elder Xarex gloated. He felt relief because Rei finally made an appearance, he could press this matter onto the alpha now.
"You mean dark magic user, right?" Redmond corrected him, where he was rewarded a glare, yet, he had seen worst than only a simple glare from almost a century year old man.
"I am not sure if I understood what happened here, someone cared to explain?" Rei looked at Cane shamelessly, while the alpha clenched his jaw tightly.
Cane still couldn’t figure out how he could leave unscathed when Lou was on the verge of death.
Elder Xarex took this opportunity to explain what the commotion was about. Despite their often argumentation and how they came from different faction, they were still coming from the same place and people outside from their continent was still outsider, in their eyes, they had to stick together.
"Me? Fighting with Lou?" Rei blinked his eyes innocently. "You will not believe that, right? If the accusation is true, can you explain how can I still live when I supposed to be burned to death?"
Iris had never seen someone so shameless like him. She wanted to go and confront this man, screaming at his face for hurting Lou, but Cane’s grip on her hand tightened, a warning for her to not do anything recklessly.
Meanwhile, Jace and Redmond looked at the alpha, they were looking for any sign of what they should do now.
"The Serafim can vouch for what happened," Redmond chimed in, he was being impatient because Cane didn’t say anything.
"She just woke up, she must have been confused and not yet gathered her composure, we can’t take her word as the truth." Elder Dandolf finally opened his mouth. He always had something to say whenever it came to Rei.
"I know what I saw!" Abby gritted her teeth, but Elder Rose immediately came to her.
"You don’t know what you are talking about," Elder Rose said, she stretched out her hand to calm Abby down, but she swatted it. "Calm down, Abby. You only make thing worst."
Other people might not be able to hear it, but there was a warning in the way Elder Rose was speaking to her. She warned her to get along and Abby usually would give in, after all, it was hard to break an old habit when people that you considered close to you, kept telling you what you felt or what you saw. You would start to question yourself.
But, Abby didn’t give in.
"I know what I saw. Rei attacked the luna. He hugged her and kept saying that he was sorry to her." Abby didn’t stop, even when Elder Rose glared at her as a warning. "He told her that he has been waiting for her all this time."
Cane saw how Rei’s eyes flickered, but what Abby said got to him. Iris had not yet told him about the part where Rei hugged her. No wonder, he could smell his disgusting scent on his mate.
His blood boiled with the thought Rei had laid his dirty hand on Iris.
Meanwhile, Iris had this complicated look on her face, she had her own reason about why she didn’t tell Cane about it.
"Then, how can you explain that?" Elder Rose pointed her finger at Rei. "He is fine, isn’t he?"
Abby couldn’t explain that, but she had her own guess. She knew it was taboo to talk about it, especially in front of the outsider, but there was no way out for Abby right now, she had to choose her side and she had done it a few weeks ago. Therefore, she needed to stick to it.
Even Elder Rose, who hated Rei so much couldn’t really do anything against him, she still needed to defend him in front of the outsider, in the name of Holy Kingdom and preserved it rightful image. What a hypocrite!
"The ritual."
Once the word came out of Abby’s lips, the elders froze, so did Rei. The look on his eyes filled with murderous intention.
This was what Cane waiting for. This matter could only be done if Abby was the one, who spoke about it, because the more they argued, the more the elders would deny it, but if the confession came from their own people, it would be different.
More so, Cane wanted to see how determined Abby was to turn her back against the people from the Holy Kingdom. He didn’t want to waste his effort to help Abby when her heart still leaned toward the Holy Kingdom.
"Abby!" Elder Rose raised her voice.
"Yes, I did injure the merchant and I am sorry for that," Rei suddenly admitted, cutting off Abby’s word before she could explain about it further, but little did he know, they already learned about it. "I am sorry for the misunderstanding. My deepest apology for my behavior, luna."
Rei even bowed his body toward Iris respectfully and what followed was the dramatic story about how long he have been waiting for the first Serafim to come back to life and just like how people already knew, Iris had the first Serafim’s life essence, therefore he was very attached to her.
"... I built the Holy Kingdom, because I want to wait for her. I wholeheartedly believe, she will return and I am right." Rei looked at Iris intently. "I know what I have done is wrong and tangle myself with black magic can’t be justified, but five hundred years are not a short time and during those years, I have been waiting for you, my Serafim."
This time, he openly admitted Iris as the Serafim, the only Serafim that he acknowledged.
His excuse for his behavior turned into this tragic, romance story, one that could be turned into a great love story with sad ending.
"I don’t know if you already learned about this or not, but there is a history behind the five appointed knights for the Serafim. It’s because Na left five swords that contained with her divine power, the symbol for the five knights."
Iris already knew about that, so did Cane, Jace and Redmond.
"However, while the Serafim from the Holy Kingdom had appointed knights, the true Serafim would have their own knights. The chosen knights. People, who truly would give up their lives for you and and these people will all have a mark showing that they are the chosen ones."
The birthmark.
Iris was stunned when Rei started to take off his clothes and he turned around to show her the same birthmark like the one Zale, Cedric and Lou had.
"The people that you have chosen will bear this mark. You must have seen it. This is the insignia of the five knights that protect the Serafim."
Rei turned around to face Iris again, but this time he knelt down, so did the two men that came with him.
"You have chosen them centuries ago and now it’s our time to fulfill our duty."
The appointed five knights were merely a symbol of the real five knights that would protect the real Serafim.
