Chapter 900: REI PULLED HIS TRICK

Elder Rose stared at Abby, those eyes were not cold, like they used to, but they filled with pity, almost as if she was sad for the thing she was going to do. "I know what is right for you."

"No! You don’t!" Abby literally growled at her. The sharp pain in her stomach increased, but she didn’t dare to put her guard down, neither she was willing to let Elder Rose to get what she wanted.

Liam... please.

Her only hope was for Liam to come quickly. He needed to be here. Their child was in danger.

"I am your mother," Elder Rose said. Her tone was very small, it filled with sadness and grievances. Her voice was quivering, so did her hand that reached out to Abby, it was trembling.

"No, you don’t!" Abby screamed on the top of her lungs. "You have never been a mother to me, don’t act like you care!" The sharp pain knocked her out of breath, as she curled her body on the ground, biting her lip so she wouldn’t lose her consciousness.

"You don’t understand, Abby. You don’t understand what he is going to do to your baby. You don’t understand." Elder Rose crouched down in front of her and hugged her.

This might be the first time Elder Rose hugged her as far as Abby could remember, but this was not the hug that she was longing. Right now, she wanted her to stay far away from her.

"You don’t understand Abby, you don’t understand..." Elder Rose kept repeating the same thing over and over again, as she cradled her in her arms, caressing her back and kissing her head, just like a mother would to soothe their child.

Meanwhile, Abby felt she grew very weak and the last thing she remembered was the feeling of warmth in her stomach, as the pain faded, so did her consciousness.

=============================

Cane and Iris were woken up because of the rapid knock on the door, demanding their attention. It was Jace, who tried to wake them up.

"Alpha! This is bad!" Jace shouted from outside. He didn’t even wait for the alpha or the luna to open the door first, thankfully, he still had the decency not to barge inside.

Cane was the first one, who woke up and Iris jolted awake when Jace started to shout from behind the door.

"Go back to sleep," Cane said, he kissed Iris’s forehead, as he got off the bed.

However, Iris was already awake and there was no way she could sleep through this. Thus, she got off after Cane and grabbed her cloak before she rushed toward the door to catch up with their conversation.

Iris untangled her curls with her hand. Her morning hair was not the best to say the least.

"...there was a fight between Liam and Elder Rose last night." Jace’s face was troubled. "Liam was trying to hurt Abby and the baby and now the Serafim is unconscious. They are punishing the knight!"

Cane raised his brows. "How it has anything to do with me?"

Jace blinked his eyes. He nodded politely at Iris when she poked her head behind Cane’s back. "They are going to kill him and also, they are accusing Grace for harming the baby."

Apparently, last night Liam couldn’t find the healer from the Holy Kingdom, thus he went to look for Grace, after all, she was the one, who had been taking care of Abby all this time.

Cane glared at him. He couldn’t care less whether Liam died or not, Jace should have told him about their healer first before he reported the news about Liam and the Serafim.

"Stay here," Cane said darkly to Iris.

"No. I am going with you." Grace could be considered as someone close to her, there was no way she would be able to sit still, while waiting for the report about how everything unfolded.

Knowing there was no way of talking this with her, Cane took her hand. Iris and Cane’s personal warriors came with them too, so did another twenty more warriors. They marched toward the main hall.

"Call Lou," Cane said and Dean went to fetch the merchant, who was still sleeping in his bedroom.

Cane immediately went to the main hall of this pack, where everyone had gathered. The three elders stood over Liam and Grace, who were kneeling on the ground.

The healer’s condition was not great. From the look of it, it seemed they received a beating and the healer took the brunt of it.

This main hall was surrounded by a lot of knights, but they didn’t stop Cane and his entourage to step in, as if they had been waiting for the alpha to come.

"Grace!" Iris immediately rushed toward her and knelt down, she gasped in surprised to see how bad her injuries were. Her head was still bleeding and there were a few bruises on her arms and legs. Iris was sure there were more under her dress. "What happened?!" Iris could feel how her blood boiled.

The moment Cane stepped in, he immediately got a picture of what kind of sick game that Rei was trying to play here. Even in the midst of war, he was still trying to pull this scheme. He wondered whether that man really wanted to defeat Decratic.

Rei couldn’t be seen inside this main hall, but Cane knew he was nearby, watching from the shadow. The alpha would never forget his scent. That damn scent.

Cane scoured the area to see where that jerk was hiding, but his scent was all over the places, he must have been here before.

"What the meaning of this?!" Iris roared. She hated it when someone hurt the people that close to her.

It was not that hard to know this nature of hers and knowing it, it could be used against her and that was what Rei tried to pull.

Because Cane prevented him to meet with Iris, he found different route to lure her out and this was proven very effective.

But, the question was; how Grace could tangle in this mess. Out of anyone else, the healer was the least person that Cane expected to mix in this complication.

"Luna Iris, please don’t intervene with this matter. Both of them have been proven to get involved with the attempt to harm the Serafim," Elder Xarex said, he looked very livid.

"What proof do you have?!" Iris was more livid than him. She stood up and faced the elders.

"Calm yourself, you know that your negative emotion will affect Decratic as well. We don’t reach this point to give that dark creature more strength," Elder Dandolf spoke up.

People might not realize it, including Elder Dandolf himself, but Cane noticed this. This quiet elder would only speak if something related to Rei and the fact he acted to defend the Holy Kingdom, cemented Cane’s assumption that all of this was Rei’s plan.

"We can’t accept this! How dare you laid hand on her!?" Iris’s blue eyes filled with wrath.

Meanwhile, the warriors only had one thought in their mind; If the Elders were shifters, they would have died in their luna’s hand.
