The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 901: THE TENSION IN THE ROOM
Chapter 901: THE TENSION IN THE ROOM
"The two of them were trying to harm the Serafim!" Elder Xarex roared in retort to Iris’s anger, but the sweet luna didn’t back down. She really hated it when the people she cared was being hurt.
"And what exactly did she do?! How could you punish her without any discussion with us when you are well aware she is our people! Are you taking us lightly?!" Iris hollered, her voice echoed inside the main hall, making everyone stunned by her outburst. "What is your explanation!?"
Cane watched how his mate was having it with the elders.
The room fell into silence, but then someone came through the door with sleepy face and his hoarse voice that broke this tensed atmosphere.
"What happened here?" Lou scratched his head. Dean came to him a moment ago, he entered his room without trouble, because the merchant had put his barrier down, since it didn’t have any effect on Cane and he assumed the other warriors wouldn’t have barged in like Dean did. How wrong he was...
His mood was already so bad because his sleeping had been disturbed twice, not to mention he had to sleep with the person, he wanted to kill. The temptation was insane. He could end Cedric’s life in a matter of second, but Iris’s angry little face stopped him every time.
"Good morning!" Lou’s voice turned cheerful when he saw Iris, though the luna was being mad right now, the merchant still looked at her with adoration, but then his eyes caught the sight of Grace and eventually everything dawn on him of how upset people in the main hall. "Did I miss something?" he asked timidly when Iris glared at him and crept closer to Cane. "What happened with your mate?" he whispered asking the alpha.
Dean didn’t explain anything when he told Lou to come to the main hall, he only said Iris called for him, knowing he wouldn’t budge if it was the alpha, who actually summoned the merchant. The warrior only wished his luna would never learn his little trick to get to Lou.
"Elder Rose found him asked the healer to give the Serafim a potion to abort the baby!" James said in loud voice for everyone to hear. He was one of the Serafim’s protectors. "The evidence is here!"
James fished out a small bottle that Iris recognized as a potion that indeed Grace had concocted for Abby, so she could abort her pregnancy.
However, things had changed a lot and now Abby wanted to keep her baby.
"Where is she?! Why she is not here to say it clearly about what actually happened?!" Iris demanded. This problem could be solved in a second if Abby was here. She could give an explanation of how Grace was innocent and in a matter of fact, the potion was requested by Abby herself.
"She is not here, she is very weak and now she is unconscious because of what your healer had done!" Elder Xarex bellowed.
Iris gave the elder a dagger look and then knelt down in front of Grace, her voice softened when she spoke to her. "Grace, tell me what exactly had happened?"
"I- I don’t know, luna. I am not sure..." Grace said in small voice. She then told her about the chronology of what happened from her stand point.
Liam approached her last night in panic and told her that something was wrong with Abby, but when they arrived in the Serafim’s bedroom, she was already unconscious and when she checked on the baby, she was surprised because both the mother and the baby were in critical condition.
"When I tried to help Abby and her baby, Elder Rose came..." Grace said.
Iris directed her fierce glare at Elder Rose, as if saying for the elder to explain herself and that was what she did.
"I saw them trying to force the potion down the Serafim’s throat! They are trying to kill the baby in her stomach!" Elder Rose didn’t look at Iris in the eyes, instead, she stared at Grace, despite the angry tone she used when she shouted her explanation.
This time, Iris directed her eyes at Liam. "Are you not going to say anything?" she asked coldly. Just like Cane, if she had to put Liam into trouble to save Grace, she would do it in a heartbeat. After all, this mess was his creation. Not to mention he had not yet said a single thing to explain himself and made the situation became any better for him and Grace. "Or should I be the one, who told them about it?"
Liam lowered his head. He kept mute and this only aggravated Iris even more.
"We will not engage in this ridiculous accusation," Cane finally spoke, he approached his mate and helped her to stand up, while Dean and Jace helped Grace to stand up. The healer looked exhausted and not in good condition. They needed to look after her condition. "We will meet again to discuss our next move toward Moon Dew pack."
Cane refused to engage further with them, because he could see Rei’s trick. Thing wouldn’t go according his plan and the alpha would make sure of it. See, how long he would stay hidden when his plan didn’t go as he expected.
"We are leaving." Cane squeezed Iris’s hand lightly when she was about to retort. She had not yet done with the elders and she wanted to lash out even more.
Thankfully, Iris was able to control herself enough to ignore Cane’s warning. She believed his judgment and didn’t question him about why they were leaving instead of clearing Grace’s name with them.
Yet, that was only Iris’s impulsive thought. She was livid and those elders got on her nerves, but in important note, that was what Rei wanted, unfortunately he didn’t expect Cane would be able to see through his scheme.
"What about the punishment for the healer?! She is trying to harm the Serafim! That’s the biggest crime!" Elder Xarex roared.
"That’s your problem." Cane stopped walking away and turned around. His black eyes filled with wrath. "But, I can warn you if you touched my people again and gave them punishment without my knowledge, you can consider our alliance is over."
Not only Iris, but Cane also didn’t like to see his people was hurt. He had protected them all this time and for someone else to hurt them, of course it made the alpha livid.
This time, Cane directed his eyes at Liam and spoke in clear voice that echoed throughout the room. "Are you not going to tell them that you are the father of that child?"
Everyone gasped when they heard this, because this was not an information that they expected. They still assumed Cedric was the father. The elders also knew that Rei had delivered the punishment for the knight. Though they felt sorry for him, there was nothing else they could do, since the punishment met the crime.
Yet, Cane said it was actually Liam?
Cane took Iris away from the main hall, while Jace carried Grace in his arms. The healer had never looked so beaten up like this, even when they were in the slavery, she managed to get away from the grueling moment because of her healing ability.
"Stop right there!" Elder Xarex roared, he created a barrier to stop Cane from leaving.
However, the alpha responded strongly too, as he neutralized the magic. Black magic burst out of his body.
This aggressive response put them all in high alert, as the knights surrounded the main hall unsheathed their swords, in respond to that, the twenty warriors that came with Cane shifted into their beast and Lou’s sleepiness vanished immediately.
The situation escalated very quickly.
"Are you going to break our alliances because of this matter?!" Elder Xarex roared. "How do you think you are going to fight Decratic on your own?!"
The elders were seething to see the way the alpha was not willing to cooperate.
"You can bring your people and leave." Cane put his arm protectively around Iris’s waist, just in case the situation went downhill.
"Ships will dock in two days, you can go back to your continent. We can manage on our own!" Lou scoffed disdainfully. "You don’t really contribute anything, but drama with your weak Serafim!?"
Right at that time, someone emerged from behind the knights. Cane caught his figure first and his gaze became even more dangerous.
There he was.
Rei.
"My apologies for the insolence of my people." Rei nodded politely, as if he meant every word he said. "We don’t need to make things more difficult than this." His eyes then fell on Iris. This must be the first time for him to see her again after months.
His gazed ravished Iris’s figure and she hid behind Cane’s back, sensing that, Lou stepped in to intervene his line of sight.
"We can solve this problem quickly if the luna is willing to heal our Serafim." Rei offered a solution, which was not a solution at all, because it was his aim since the beginning. "I have heard a lot of people said that your healing power is very powerful. You can even heal someone that a healer couldn’t heal. After all, by healing our Serafim, she can confirm whether your healer was trying to harm her or not. What do you think?"
That was the best solution and Rei appeared to be on their side, as he was being fair, but did he really take their side? He was very suspicious.
